Women stand up to end the culture of bride price in Nigeria. The practice of the bride price is demeaning to women. It makes many African men feel as though they “own their wives” and therefore feel they have the right to do as they wish.

Paying the bride price means there's an implicit moral obligation on a woman’s part to respect and obey her husband’s commands and wishes. Psychologically, the practice creates an ownership mentality in men which may lead them to see their wives as their ‘purchase’ over whom they exercise unfettered authority, including physical and psychological abuse.

The payment of bride price is also associated with the perception of women as ‘acquired properties’ over whom men exercise authority and control. The transactional character of the practice could ‘objectify’ and ‘commoditise’ women in marriage.

I don't see it as wrong. It's okay if it's a token but becomes hideous when the sum demanded is fuelled solely by greed and not to the best interest of the bride.

Many women have been left husbandless due to thi reason.

You're typing nonsense. Bride price is from the days of slavery. It's a very backward misogynistic tradition. No modern society does that

You people are so stupid because it is only a stupid person will associate dowry with owning a big man being. how about India where the the bride family pays.

India is a shîthole. If you want to sound intelligent, don't ever talk about India again in your life.

It's literally the most populated shity country on the planet. No joke. It has some of the most shity human beings in existence.

Have a good day.

Lol.... This thing started with men NOT women...

Bia, how much the man pay( for priceless human being, abi e reach minimum of $1 billion) that will make him think he OWNS her?

If bride price must be returned, the man must return the woman to pre- marriage state.

If men spend much on their daughters and resolve that it should now be free, no problem from women.

Anyway, the best way is to charge N20 brideprice and let the man buy things for the traditional wedding which is part of what eats money.

its a joint business if it was his he wouldnt need to ask her to relinquish her shares, and it seems she is a major shareholder since he wants the company as condition for the divorce. the man is simply trying to frustrate her because he doesnt even want the marriage too and i believe the house and car documents are co-owned because it seems the woman is smart business wise.the fact that she is a governors daughter means they also received "gifts" that cant be in her name alone hence adding the mans name. i feel he doesnt want to leave the marriage empty handed because what is 50k its obvious she has got more money than him
advanceDNA:

Thats not how it works oooo...if he already had the business with no contribution from her before she came into the marriage ...they will not dissolve anything......especially in the north where sharia law is biased against women forming woke..

She will only be entitled to setlement...and now that she's the one willing to go...she will not collect shígbain.....u think is abroad

The most mature mention so far. Well, I would have preferred it is removed from the equation entirely.
