Two Children, Seven Adults Die In Container Accident At Ojuelegba, Lagos (Photos)

Nine persons including two children; a boy and a girl, have died when a container fell on a commercial bus in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos, IGBERETV reports.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that the truck bearing the container lost control while climbing the bridge.

He said, “Upon arrival at the scene, a truck conveying a 20ft container was found to have landed on top of a commercial bus.

“Investigation revealed that the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge.

“A total of nine fatalities were recovered, comprising four adult males, three adult females, a girl and a boy. An adult female was rescued alive”

Lagos State government needs to share part of the blame. They've been advised many times to put barrier over that Oju-Elegba bridge to prevent those container trucks from climbing the bridge.

Is it the bad roads?, truk drivers and road users in general not following the stipulated precautionary and safety measures? Something really needs to be done.

Each time I see bus drivers dragging lanes with containers, I feel scared. Let us always caution drivers each time we notice them dragging lanes with containers. Don't be afraid to speak when you feel worried.

It's the containers..articulated vehicles ought to be passing through the road below and not the bridge.
