Why? There are nigerians making big money in Canada legit... Why did this two chose otherwise?... I mean they might have gone on social welfare to get their rent and food paid for in Canada instead for stealing.

But you feel sorry for them... In other words you will do sakenas they did

Na so her face be no be sad face she dey do.

Foolish greedy oafs.

They'll tell you they are looking for innocent people to rip when in Nigeria because the government and system aren't working and can't provide them jobs, or that they are taking back what was stolen from their forefathers.

Idiots...are there no jobs in Canada and everywhere else in the world we keep allowing our greed and quest for quick money make us disgrace ourselves and country?

Useless morons...

Watch how Canada will also begin to tighten their borders to us...

They should send them back to us after their jail terms to come join us in eating ewa, ag ado, and cassava.

Truck owner operators earn more than $300K a year in Canada. An opportunity that many here in Nigeria are looking for.

Doing fraud over money you can earn legitimately. It's sad

They want to continue spoiling our countryā€™s name, like ThiefNuibu started with his drug money laundering case?
Any idea how we can prevent that

Francis5:
Former Lagos provincial governor Bola Tinubu, affectionately nicknamed the Jagaban, is today seen as a shrewd if not ā€œdeeply Machiavellianā€ Svengali in Nigeriaā€™s politics as well as the architect of a hugely successful anti-corruption platform. But 20 years ago he had to forfeit nearly half a million dollars to the U.S. Treasury Department after being named as an accomplice in a white heroin-trafficking and money-laundering ring that stretched from West Africa to the U.S. Midwest.

Although his case has been bandied about the Nigerian press for years, Tinubuā€™s involvement in a federal drug and racketeering investigation waged jointly by the DEA, FBI, and IRS has gone unreported elsewhere, even after his ascendance to Karl Rove-like status last month. A recent gauzy Financial Times profile of him, for instance, neglected to mention that two decades ago Tinubu was identified as a bagman for two Nigerian heroin movers who operated out of Chicago and Hammond, Indiana. They were Adegboyega Mueez Akande and Abiodun Agbele, Akandeā€™s nephew, who was exposed to law enforcement after selling white heroin first to Lee Andrew Edwards, another dealer later jailed for trying to murder a federal agent, and then to an undercover cop.

In a 1993 court docket from the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois, which The Daily Beast obtained from Sahara Reporters, a Nigeria-focused news outlet, IRS Special Agent Kevin Moss said that Akande had run the white heroin ring in the late 1980s until 1990, when he handed off the U.S arm of the business to his nephew, who had arrived in 1988. Akande then returned to Nigeria but continued to oversee the operation from abroad with the help of others at home and in the United States, including his relatives. One of the individuals identified in his cartel by Moss was Tinubu, then a Chicago State University-educated accountant working as a treasurer for Mobil Oil Nigeria Ltd, a subsidiary of energy giant Mobil Oil, which was still a few years shy of its famous merger with Exxon in 1999.

In the biography section of his official website, Tinubu is described as having emigrated to the United States in 1975 ā€œin search of the proverbial Golden Fleece with a heart brimming with unrelenting determination to achieve his visions.ā€ This is certainly one way to describe his tenure stateside.

In 1989, Moss said in an affidavit, Tinubu established an individual money market account, into which he deposited $1,000 in travelerā€™s checks, and a negotiable order of withdrawal account (NOW) at First Heritage Bank in Country Club Hills, Illinois. The address Tinubu gave the bank was the same as the listed headquarters of Globe-Link International, the front company owned by Akande and his relatives.

ā€œThereā€™s a trend of various Nigerian politicians at the highest levels involved in dodgy business deals around the world, in property and cash.ā€

Bank employees told Moss that Akande had personally introduced them to Tinubu in December 1989 when who also opened a joint checking account with his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, who already kept a joint account with Akandeā€™s wife at First Heritage. Five days after the NOW account was opened, $80,000 was wired into it from a bank in Houston maintained by one of Akandeā€™s relatives. Tinubu would later use the NOW account to buy a $10,000 Certificate of Deposit for an $8,000 car loan, listing Akande as his cousin on the application.

At the time, Tinubuā€™s take home as a Mobil Oil Nigeria executive was a mere $2,400 a month and he claimed not to have any other revenue streams. Yet he still managed to deposit $661,000 into his individual money market account in 1990 and then another $1,216,500 a year later. He also opened more accounts with Citibank in its worldwide personal banking unit, transferring over half a million dollars from his First Heritage money market account into one of them in early 1991.

Mobil Oil Nigeria told Moss that Tinubuā€™s role at the company never involved transferring large sums of money between banks and that it didnā€™t keep deposits in any institutions in the south suburbs of Chicago, where First Heritage was based. Moreover, although Tinubu moved back to Nigeria in 1983, he neglected to file U.S. income tax returns after 1984 despite having sizable, interest-generating deposits in American banks. All of this was enough to persuade a magistrate judge of the Northern District to issue seizure warrants for Tinubuā€™s First Heritage and Citibank accounts. Collectively, more than $1.4 million belonging to the Nigerian was confiscated.

I am igbo and these people are Nigerians ( no tribe attached) but the hate others would have meted on us if it were igbo names makes me wonder how foolish some people are in this country.

A Nigerian was killed in South Africa, the laziest black nation on earth whose reputation is to hate other nation, and many on nairalanders were happy and they just concluded they are igbos.

A visit to South Africa would ultimately prove to you the kind of country South Africa is. If u are doing well in their country, they will just hate u as if u took their destiny away, even the white don't condone them till this very day.
My bro na tribalism they bang Nigerians left and right.
Tribalism in Nigeria will never end untill the country itself is wiped out from this earth.
Na tribalism they make Nigeria/Nigerians no dy prosper.

Two Nigerians arrested in Canada for allegedly selling $500k worth of fraudulently issued plane tickets

A 44-year-old Nigerian lady, Gbemisola Akinrinade and one Adebowale Adiatu, 32, have been arrested by the police in Canada for allegedly selling $500,000 worth of fraudulently issued plane tickets.

The suspects, who are residents of Brampton and Vaughan respectively, between June and December 2021, allegedly misrepresented themselves as employees of travel agencies based out of the United Kingdom to secure access to an online booking portal belonging to a ā€œmajor European airline.ā€

Peel police in a statement said the suspects fraudulently sold valid airline tickets to unsuspecting customers and collected the payments for financial gain.

More than 250 airline tickets were sold at a total value of approximately $500,000, the statement disclosed. Adding that the majority of the customers who purchased the tickets were from the Calgary area and the flights were primarily to Africa.

According to CanadaToday, the suspects are facing charges which include fraud over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime and obtain by false pretense, unlawful use of a computer.

Just look at all the ibo criminals caught since yesterday compared to Yorubas. I domt support this Sha and I hope these animals are used as scapegoats to teach other useless lazy idiots out there.

Could it be a hastily arranged business venture that went bad? There are some ambitous aircraft lessors (not operators) who promise such deals but end up not showing up if the numbers are not good enough. If that is the case, the two of them should just have refunded, though it will leave them with losses. Lesson 1, dont try to be ambitous with a business you dont know about.

I don't get it. Did they commit fraud or they acted aa travel agents without having a licence

They sold valid tickets for a major airline and were paid. Did the airline not get their money or what? or was their ticketing site hacked?

It is pretty clear na. They likely created a website like wakanow, and used that to get one foot through the door, and then thought to themselves, 'seee money'! They deceived the airline into thinking they were legit agents, and when they sold the tickets and got the money, they failed to remit same as a legit agent would do.
