There is a power struggle between Buhari's camp and Tinubu's camp. The Naira and fuel scarcity is intensional. There is an end game in sight. Seems Buhari has heeded correct advice from the CBN to go ahead with the policy

This is the only way for CBN to control money supply and get the Naira exchange rate correct

It will stop kidnapping, improve tax compliance and actually help govt revenue

It is madness for the Govt to keep printing naira and keep impoverishing people with exchange rate driven inflation while at the same time not mopping up the deficit spending with tax revenue

You can't correct exchange rates by making physical cash scarce.



The only benefit of the policy is that CBN can monitor the amount of physical cash in circulation. Nothing else.


It won't reduce inflation because inflation is a situation where there is a lot of money (not just physical cash) chasing fewer goods.



The confidence in the naira is still low, whether you design it or redesign it. People still prefer the dollar to it, so whether you apply all the paint in the world on the naira, it won't grow it.

The redesign will obviously affect not just Tinubu but other crooked politicians who have hoarded millions in cash to influence elections only to have that taken away and no way they can launder all the money in time.
