With all the fintechs we have, absolutely no one has found a way to crack cross border payments. There's always one hook or another. You can't even send money from Nigeria to Mali except you are using a dorm account

This is what I don't understand or even the fact that there would be transparency and alerts for all transactions Go money is perfect but my Gardner tried retrieving the account so I had to close it all we really have according to my research and evidence are assassins using clients to cover their tracks. Mostly accountants working with these people who work in your homes and can nick a password or two from your diary and feed back to them

Every opportunity I created to bring wealth Egbon and his demons used it to murder and collect houses

Nigeria Don't mock people that their broke if your in fact stealing coins from them

Note please delete all emoji emails you get it's actually a code that allows them to receive your emails

Anyone that can do the job well and stick around longer...

Well if you are wondering why it's hard to get jobs specifically remote Jobs especially when you are just fresh out of college this is Why.

Most of this engineers laid off would want to jump back into the labour market making it more crowded.

Imagine me with my little or no experience trying to compete with someone that has worked for GitHub, Google, Microsoft, Facebook. If you were a hiring manager, who would you pick?

Those are exceptions and those aren't the rule. Despite what the dude earns he still bought another passport. The money for that passport can build 3 houses in Nigeria. That should tell you something.

are you in the tech space? many Nigerian developers earn well on foreign gigs/role

though to be fair Nigeria's tech ecosystem is not as strong/vibrant as India so most time you can't expect to command the same fees as most Indian/Europe engineers

but if your comment above is bored out of Nigeria is not good, Nigeria is this Nigeria is that ...then you are on your own, just dey play

Nigeria still remains one of the tech giants in the continent and holding fort its own on the global scale

True.

In addition, some models would stop working or not work in the long run. How do you want to survive in Nigeria when you simply cannot charge your customers fees. You want to compete with Opay et al? Ordinarily sms alerts that GTB charges once in a while, Nigerians wont let Twitter rest.

We have more fintechs here than in any other African country.

Someone commented that why do i need to have 1,000 ways to pay for a yam.

Unfortunately, many of these fintechs are the same solution with no new innovation. If you are planning to start a fintech and your major solution is still deposit and withdrawal, copying kuda, opay, palmpay and the 150 others, then you might fail.

Yes payment method is saturated. But what about other sectors like health, applying data solution in finance and business, security, transportation, even games. Have there tried online bank like we have here in western countries..

What power supply and internet access will you run the "silicon valley" with? Is it EhmTiHen 1.5G abi HairTel 30kbps?

These things are not opened by wishful thinking or merely dreaming in the skies.

Sorry but you are so wrong in everything stated here.

First, asking government to open a Silicon Valley clone implies you dont understand how tech businesses work. The governments don’t actively engage in startups. They only provide enabling environments…like a city where everyone is safe at all times for example.
Secondly you said we should start importing skills. Na here you off me totally.
Nigeria has been exporting skills at the rate of a sieve in the last 20 years. As a shocker, all my friends and i are no longer based here. ALL.
On my LinkedIn, most of the people I started work with over a decade ago are no longer here. We are a net exporter of skills.
Nigeria is a serious case at the moment.

I think a lot of startup founders overestimate the Nigerian economy. The reality on ground isn't what is always on pitch desks. The real market in Nigeria is around 5 million max but people are always projecting 200 million people as a market which isn't right.
Brother please when you mean 5 million max do you mean the maximum number of people that are using the internet in Nigeria or you mean the maximum number of people into tech in Nigeria.

I think he's talking about the effect of the massive emigration of medical doctors in Nigeria with respect to the increasing rate of diabetes and kidney diseases.

Maybe people who can afford to subscribe to some premium and exclusive package.

In Nigeria, they may not be more than 10 million.

For instance, if it gets to a point where we have to start paying to use nairaland or whatsapp, maybe just $2 a month, how many people go remain?

Well said. They overestimate not just the economy, but their solution. I say this as someone that knows a few solution driven tech bros. This includes the UK one. He is also onto this fintech stuff and when he talks about it, na too much fancy words. I ask him a question and more fancy words.

He rolled out a service and when I was hyping it for him, a friend asked me, what are they doing differently? He did tell me what they are doing differently and I wonder how they plan no sustain no charges in Nigeria. Right now I am just observing him.

Truth is if you are good, like supremely good at what you do na you go dey run from jobs. One of my guys, a supremely good C++ coder recently left a $15/hr for a $100/hr in January at the same company. Yesterday he got bumped to $200/hr at the same company when he told his manager he's got another offer. No interview or nothing at the current company. Just a new contract with the new offer. Baba don dey plan marriage straight. Annoying thing is that he is based in Ibadan so he is living super large

$200/hr and staying in Ibadan?? Either your friend is lieing to you or you are the one telling lie here. This is my field. I'm a site reliability engineer who has worked with Google for a short time and currently with Andela. My friend, go back and tell your friend he's lieing.

In my opinion, should be way bigger. But most tech folks in Nigeria are looking at low hanging fruit in in web dev. So that hunger will not kill them

On the contrary, I think cyber security has lower hanging fruits than web development. Cyber security is vast.

U have any links to cyber security communities?

I'm not in the cyber security space so I don't have direct references. But in my vertical, I've found a lot of good communities on Reddit. Maybe you can also be lucky there.

Regarding lower hanging fruits, compare webdev and cyber security. To start developing a website you probably just need notepad. I remember briefly dabbling into cyber security with Kali. You'd need a sufficiently powerful computer to virtualize Kali for example. Let's not talk about needing a capable wifi card to attempt to do Wi-Fi sniffing. I stumbled across Maltego a few days ago and deployed it to get my hands dirty with OSINT. The learning curve is a bit high and returns are not immediate. Contrast that with a webdev were a learner can immediately see whatever web page they have developed

Web pentesting can be easy to learn n do bug bounty hunting.

Valid point that web pentesting is a low hanging route. Maybe you can try to stimulate conversations around cyber security on these NL tech streets. I'm in VOIP and our streets is currently hot with a cyber security breach of 3CX, a major VOIP solution. I'm having to study and understand the breach and how we can mitigate against it. Apparently the breach was done by a state actor (DPRK) which means it's huge. Like HUGE huge.

This one I'm seeing 1981 next to your moniker. Should I take that as your Year of Birth? Cos that would make us "contemporaries"
