I have been married for Ten years now and I think I can advise u on this genotype issue. I have seen many thread on issue of genotype in which people are giving out advice here. I just looked on cos I have nothing to contribute.
My wife and I are AS. Though we did not lie about it to our families but the resistance was too much from her own family. We weigh a lot of issues that are bigger than genotype, like what of if I marry another person and she couldn't conceive and many others like that. But what really helped us is that we had great convictions in the relationship and I have peace being around her.
We have two kids so far and they are both AA, Female and male. If u love the woman very well and u are ok with her character, I beg u go ahead. Don't try to please anyone. If u have the money to do pre-testing and Ur wife is in agreement kindly go ahead. Few good women are outside there and the rate of divorce is alarming. May God almighty guide Ur step.

Don't try it. Except you are ready for IVF where the genotype will be determined. Very expensive though.

Sickle cell anaemia is curable at birth. It's surprising that many Nigerians still do not know about this medical breakthrough that has been available for close to two decades. I know for sure that university of Benin teaching hospital was the first hospital to such services available in Nigeria. Good luck.

If the fetus is SS ,you terminate ,then you are a killer, can you bear the cost .

thanks dear for your encouragement, I'm currently chasing my license hoping to get it before the year runs out, as soon as I do that there will be inflow of cash.

She at the other end is a 18yrs gal, but thinks and behave like a 30yrs old woman very mature , humble and homy knowing what to do at all time, u might even doubt her age because of her maturity. she has really been a piece of mind to me, I really suffer in my previous relationship.

Also for career , she has been learning chemist before she had misunderstanding with the woman she was staying with so had to relocate to my area where I met her at the market, so I have made an arrangements with a family friend so she could go over there and continue building herself in chemist , as soon as I'm balanced I intend setting up somewhere for her (chemist), that will be after our marriage.

If you love ur life or ur girl as you said, you won't dare marry her. My cousin tried that in spite of similar warning like this, now they have buried his daughter after 2 years of labouring in vain. Love is a temporary insanity curable by marriage. People that are both AA don't even feel the love after 2 years of marriage often because of other issues of life, how worse if you add taking care of or eventually loosing SS child/children to those other issues common in many marriages? If you don't listen to reason, life will teach you in due season! Nigerians prefer the latter, though, so I won't be surprised if you go ahead.

I heard that a certain Dr. Gives medicines from the start of the pregnancy till delivery to prevent birthing SS. Though he is in Abuja.

AS AS match not advised, the risk of producing a sickler is more than 25%, you dont want to face the long term wahala of caring for a sickler, its torture for you and the child. Get an AA instead.
