1) I urge everybody to ignore @googi's unsubstantiated statements. For at least one of those statements, I have provided evidence that @googi is telling a lie.
2) As for language, Benin has been written about since the 1400's, although Benin kingdom/empire has many languages like all empires did, the language of the Oba has never been claimed to be different from the Edo language by anybody who visited the Oba and wrote about the encounter.
3) by the way, the picture below is that of the Oni of Ife. I asked whom he was and the yarr.ibas either don't know or they just don't want to claim him, because in reality they are ashamed of their true history. Notice the "beautiful Oni palace" behind the Oni. Also notice the lack of red beads and the "crown".

I am currently reading a report in which it is claimed that after the British took over Lagos from Benin, a lot of fugitive slaves (many of them were egba) migrated into Lagos.
Plus the British dumped some Brazilian slaves in Lagos as well. This explains Yoruba presence in Lagos.
