I bought a 2002 Toyota Camry as my first car in October and for the first 2-3 months the car performed pretty well.

However lately, from January it has been one problem to the other.

From overheating to coil problem to spark plug problem and others.

The recent issue with the car is that the car doesn’t hold slow anymore.

That is the car goes off at slow speeds. I’ve changed coil, changed spark plug, ringed engine twice all to no avail.

This has caused a huge hole in my pocket as I’ve even had to borrow to pay for some of these repairs.

Just yesterday in a bid to resolve this issue, I took the car to another mechanic and he told me my engine block had washed and that even if he grinded the valve the holding slow issue won’t stop. I inquired about the cost of replacing the block and purchase alone was close to a 100 thousand. I’m just tired and frustrated, I need advise, do I sell the car or do I repair this?

Is this mechanic trying to extort me. Experience car users please advise

If the car is this bad as he explained putting 300k on the car is gross error. He shouldn't have gottenit for more than 55k

Bros close eye buy new engine since you have ringer the one you have already. Make sure you you change every existing engine components with the one that came with the new engine you buy especially the injector.
When slow don't hold it means your injector is very dirty but your engine is weak already, so I advise you change it now and enjoy your ride.

You didn't state the condition of the car at the time of purchase (brand new, tokunbo or naija used). This would determine a lot as the tokunbo or brand new wouldn't give you any problem as at now if truly you purchased last October.

Also you need to get a Toyota specialized mechanic, not jack of all trades one,ask friends and colleagues using same product, possibly same models, seek referrals.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

1)The injector is blocked due to dirt blockage, resulting from running out of fuels.
2)Fuel filter or fuel pump damaged as a result of running fuel out as well, this makes the fuel pump pulls fuel with difficulty, thereby overheating and fuse tripping off or pump breaking down.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

For the 1 above, talk to an injector specialist,he should be able to fix it for you.
For the 2 above,if it's the fuse that tripped, replace it and if it's the pump breaking down, you'll have to get another fuel pump.

@ the bolded. Never try to bridge the fuse with flexible wire, the overheated system cannot trip off a wire so there's tendency for the fuel pump to be damaged.

PREVENTION

Never run with low fuel or let fuel run out of your tank,it results to this.

With the subject above,I guess the car was naija used as at purchase.

Never buy naija used cars if you don't know the history.

If this was your case,I suggest you sell it off and try to get a foreign used car (tokunbo).

I can understand, the problem is our mechanics. Even with your money you can’t get good service, and if you are able to get good service be advice 95% of all parts in Nigeria are China, not the original from the car manufacturer. So within a few months the part would have packed up. I drive a Benz, I have the money but to get good service is a problem, I have now resorted to ordering the parts from abroad, expensive, but at least I have peace of mind. Car generally is expensive to maintain.

So this boy don do money rituals..haa u drive Benz.
Bless my aza with blood money please..make I smell some blood

If you like the car that much, change the engine. Don't allow any mechanic to cajole you into ringing your engine..

Bro most of the time the fault is the mechanic who are majorly know next to nothing

And especially when most of the part being bought to repair are either used or imported from china which makes matter worst

If you can find where to diagnose the car and get the real problem and buy original part it will be great

Like me my BMW X6, most of the time once it has any issue I go for diagnoses and import the original part to avoid story that touch and save me time and money although sha e cost but it worth it

Just Go do diagnoses on it and find the real issue and have peace of mind
If not Nigeria mechanic go kill you

First thing you need to do is to scan the vehicle to know the fault codes. For you to know the State of your engine, you will go to datastream on the scantool and scroll down to calculated load. If the calculated load on idle speed is more 30%, it is a sign that your engine is getting weak.
Always scan your vehicle before you embark on any repair work on your engine

Sometimes, having a car problem in Nigeria is even bigger than marital problem. Since I stopped using Nigerian used car, I regained my peace!

My advice, leave the car for now and go back to it later. No use vex sale your car because if you do you will just throw it away and you will regret it later.

Sell it off...... take your time before buying another Car.... Some other things will come up. Mechanic will always tell you it will be good while making you dry. I've a terrible experience with them. They can make you mad and become completely broke
Re: Help! My Car Is Always At The Mechanic by EPIJOE: 2:26pm On May 07, 2023
Op so sorry for the losses. That particular brand of car seems to be one of Toyotas problematic cars in terms of engine performance and ageing.

That brand engine is always having issues with tapet valves, oil shortage and the fuel line.

To resolve the fuel line, someone gave a very good advice earlier. Always let your car run in less quarter fuel. Don't let your fuel be anything less than quarter tanks. Before you refuel. Driving a car with fuel lights on. Is a bad practice except for emergency.

The fuel pump could overheat and blow out the fuse once it's low.

Op kindly remove the tank clean the tank
Get a direct good fuel pump v6 or v 8 pump.
And buy a direct Belgium engine, this would solve your problems.

Don't forget to scan the vehicle afterwards. Get a reliable Toyota experts. Not all this street ochins

Someone buying a car, do so for many reasons:parts sellers can buy it to butcher and then sell the parts or buy to repair to standard, then resell.

sad some of those idiots mechanic are out to squeeze /dig hole inside your pocket.i guess you bought this car from another Naija fellow. It is Wickedness to sell problem to another man. Contact Gazzuz for necessary assistance
it depends. If the car service history was revealed to the buyer and he willingly buys the car, it's not wickedness. But the other way round yeah totally agree.

Nigerians should also seek opinion of different mechanics before committing to anything. The OP should look for another mechanic to confirm if that's actually the issue and what the cost would be. Then he can decides on what to do.

Selling it is not wickedness so far he provides potential buyer with all relevant information neccessary to reach a worthy or true price for the car.

It would be wickedness if he hopes to profit from lack of information of the buyer i.e provide the buyer with limited information
