Please guys am seriously in confusion right now on what to do, I work in a tomato company in Kano state.

My supervisor who is related to the owner of the stole my money about 70k.

Now my confusion is if I should report him or not because he is our supervisor and the company only listens to him and not the other workers.

Am scared if I go ahead and report him I might end up being affected. They all speak housa which I don't.

It is only both of us in the office, yet he denied it. I don't have any other job yet

Please should what should I do?
That amount is a princely sum of money.Do you have a concrete evidence against him, what are you doing with that sum of money in your work place,if you have concrete evidence, then report him

But,on the other hand, don't you think you will be in his black book if you report him, since his brother listens to him, don't you think he might initiate a sack process against you.

If don't have a solid evidence against him, please let it be,if you are still interested in the job.

Is there CCTV in your office?
Did you see him steal your money?
What evidence do you have?
Don't you have a bank account where you can save the money, why keep raw cash in the office?

Well I have nothing much to say.

Sorry for this ugly experience.
Do you have concrete evidence that he stole your money? As in pictorial or video?
If you don't and you are making your allegation based on the fact that just two of you guys are in the office, then YOU SHOULD SET TRAP FOR HIM WITH ANOTHER MONEY SO AS TO CATCH HIM RED-HANDED.

You should do nothing .... say nothing. This has nothing to do with tribe ... but the backlash that will come from accusing someone wrongfully. Wrongfully accuse someone of being a thief can have different reactions ... some may let it go with an apology ... some will label you a false accuser and liar .... while some will be out to harm you. You have said nothing about where you had the money.... when it may have been stolen ... where were you at the time ... where was he at the time. Confronted by these questions would you have good answers? You don't have to actually see him take the money but give circumstantial evidence that can make one believe it is him. You have zero such evidence. Most likely.... you have hidden the money from yourself and will stumble on it later. It is never a good thing to jump to conclusion and this is exactly what you've done. Check the clothing you wore from the day before the loss .... the bags etc.... the places you been since uplifting the money. You have it hidden somewhere for safe keeping. Time will tell. If you are dead sure the guy stole it .... then you report to the manager ... forget about same tribe and family ... a thief is a thief and no one wants a thief around them . Maybe he is known to be a thief by the manager who hired him under the condition that he must not be involved in any theft. Again ... if you don't have enough evidence to show that he is the thief.... say nothing to anyone.

Billionaire2:
What evidence do you have that he stole the money?

Yrs ago my friend visited me in the village for a ceremony. He spent 2days in my village, the day he wanted to leave his wallet went missing. Aside me the only person that had access to my visitors room was my younger cousin who was then a student. All fingers pointed to my cousin, I even called him privately and searched his bags because he was about going back to school same day. He cried as I searched his bags. I asked him to just produce the wallet even if he had taken money inside it, the wallet contained my friends military I’d card and bank cards. We didn’t find the wallet so I lend my friend cash to get him back to his state as I continued my search for the wallet.
The next day we saw the wallet in our village restroom(still under construction then) my friend had used the toilet and he personally removed his wallet and placed it between some building bricks before using the toilet. He was drunk he couldn’t even remember what happened.
When I told him where we found it he recalled and started apologizing…. It took the collective apology of all family members for my little cousin to forgive me for the embarrassment
exact scenario must have played out here.accusing others is not a good thing aside the emotional torture that comes with it.some can even commit suicide just because they can not handle such an embarrassment moment.I remembered an incident in my school days in the off campus I was leaving.one idiot accused me of stealing his torchlight fone and even went ahead to bring someone to threaten me in my house.I was so heartbroken and the embarrassment that came with it.it took me a certain period to go through that embarrassing moment.
Mr yungmil, take ur time and search for your money well and it isn't a good idea to go to work with such huge amount.Dont go and set trap for urself in ur work place oooo.office no be inside molue or taxi ooo.We are talking about someone u will be seeing almost everyday atleast for now till you secure another better Job and u confirmed he is ur superior in the office. You wan accuse ur superior at work say e steal ur thing without concrete evidence. No try am oooo.

Don't do it, even if you have concrete proof, those guys can be irrational at times, and there is the probability that he has spent the money with the people you want to report to, and they won't be able to talk in your favour.

You should know what to do, start seeking another job and be careful.

Call the man privately, tell him not to be embarrassed that you asked him about the money.

Watching him closely, tell him "whoever stole your money, Allah ya isa" if he becomes uncomfortable, he stole your money and may find a way to keep it back, that is if he is a devoted Muslim.
Re: My Senior Colleague Stole My Money In The Office by lekonso: 4:05pm On May 22, 2023
You can't report your boss to the authority without very clear evidence and proof that he stole your money. The company will just sack you. You can't even accuse anyone of theft without clear evidence. It is totally wrong. So accept your carelessness and learn from your mistake and move on.

Your accusation is wrong Sir.
I am also a northerner. But even as a northerner, I don't pray to enter trouble with lada people. Because they have union and those guys support for one another is top notch. Just like trailer drivers.

Thank you

bro Northerners support themselves even if they're wrong.
That's the reason even in abuja, one "drugged up" okada guy will jam your car and the whole aboki will gang up against once they discover you don't understand the hausa.

Reporting a Northerner to another Northerner especially when you don't have evidence is nit a cool idea.

Except you just want to report a case of missing money without pointing accusing fingers.

If you don't have evidence just keep it to yourself because even with evidence the language barrier will militate against you.

Be more carefully with your money now that you know there's a thief.

Take the loss. You are responsible for that loss since you did not secure your money. Take it and make sure you never leave money anywhere again. If you report him, you will be putting yourself in physical jeopardy including the probability of a loss of your job.

In your mind, defray the money as money you spent jollifying for one year. That will come to about N6K a month and you will find the loss bearable if you think of it that way. Reporting him in the environment you described will be counter productive.
Take care of your physical and emotional security. I don't know how you guys survive in that country, how much more up there where human life is seen as of little value.

Years from now, you will look back at this as a minor event regardless of whatever the impact will be on you presently. That is, if you handle it the right way. You live in a country where there is no justice and injustice in inflicted on the powerless. Never forget that in everything you do.

My advice is that you should let go and keep the job you have for now. Your senior colleague might be happy he had his way now but don't worry. Someday he will meet his Waterloo. For now focus on the experience you can gain from the company and do your job as if nothing happened while you keep applying for jobs elsewhere. And don't keep any valuable in your office henceforth. If they pay you cash at your workplace, run to the nearest pos operator and deposit it into your account.

Ps

I advice you setup your LinkedIn account and make it standard. Once you apply for a job, LinkedIn will start sending you at least email containing similar job openings weekly based on your preference. I do get loads of emails weekly in the agro food industry where I specialize in.

Good luck

Have you confirmed that he was the one who stole the money? Do you have any reasonable evidence? If you're not sure who stole the money, it would be wrong to accuse anyone, let alone a senior colleague, of theft.

My advice is for you to report the case to the appropriate authorities at the workplace but DON'T mention anyone's name. Let them know you lost money in the office or that your money was stolen, but don't mention names if you ain't sure.

Shalom.
