I am as doubtful as anyone about the wisdom of appointing a mechanical engineer as CBN governor after 9 years of economic disaster under Emefiele, but this is merely an interim arrangement which is triggered automatically. I'll go even further and suggest that if Tinubu can't find someone with the right qualifications and experience with a Nigerian passport, he should be bold enough to canvas for candidates internationally. There is solid precedent for this, as the former head of the Bank of England was a Canadian, while an American was once appointed head of the Bank of Israel. The role of CBN governor is the key appointment that will determine whether Nigeria thrives or stagnates over the next decade, and we can't allow parochial thinking about tribe or religion to enter into it at all.

Mr. Folashodun Adebisi was born on the 7th of March, 1962. He attended the University of Lagos from 1978 to 1983 and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

He further obtained a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1985 with bias in Production Engineering from the same University. From 1988-1989 he shifted grounds to Finance and obtained a Masters’ in Business Administration specializing in Finance.
