There are strong indications that the $2 billion, about N1.54 trillion, Kano-Maradi railway line that links Nigeria and Niger Republic will have over 100 bridges and three side camps among other facilities when completed.

The project which is currently being handled by MOTA-ENGIL NIGERIA is expected to be completed in three years.

Speaking with media men at the Port & Cargo Terminal in Lagos, Mr Nuno Colaco, the company’s logistics manager, explained that the project which was expected to be delivered in three years would have over 100 bridges and three side camps among other facilities of a modern railway line.

Colaco revealed that the project was massive and that about 100 kilometres of the project had been paved ahead of the main construction work.

He further said, It is a 400-kilometre railway, starting from Dutse in Kano and terminating in Maradi in Niger Republic. This is one of the biggest projects to be handled by the Portuguese company.

“We came to Nigeria in 2018 and we are happy that we got this project two years after our arrival. Nigeria is the biggest economy in Africa with huge potential.”

Also speaking, the Customs Controller of Tin Can Island, Mr Adekunle Oloyede, who said that there had been a decrease of cargo throughput at the ports, expressed delight at the sheer size of the Mota-Engil import, saying it was evidence that the Nigerian economy was on the rebound.

Can this project repay even 20% of its cost in 10 years?

In continuation of the movement of ND resource to develop NE,NC and NW, they will stop more subsidies to repay for this project. God!

The one they built within can not repay its cost in 100 years yet they are building more and removing subsidies to fund what, in my estimate, 75% of Nigerians cannot make use of. Wonderful economic policies of Tinubu and Buhari.

What is the economic benefit of this project to our economy?

Do we have one within that connects Nigeria economic hubs? I don't think so ..it's this one leading to NIGER republic that's a priority
It's well

Of what economic importance is Niger Republic to Nigeria? The senseless and most useless president to ever rule this nation left the sovereign concerns of his surrogate country for his real country.

Big waste of resources, if they had built factories or industries across the geopolitical zones in Nigeria, thereby engaging many of our youths and reducing this huge unemployment state that is a waiting time bomb, Nigerians would have appreciated it better than this nonsense waste of money (Loan) they have engaged in sad

thank you. If power plants were built around industrial estates that are secured specifically, it will be easy to sell cheap power to producers of basic commodities and not subsidizing consumption.of electricity for leisurely purposes that don't grow GDP in any way.

Nothing will happen there, the Lagos-ibadan is a perfect example, the train doesnt stop at areas where people are, so how then do they make a fortune from it

Except the promoters pave out some other ways to make it viable

It's all about favouritism to them. Once you have the power to do what would favour your people at the expense of others which is totally wrong

A waste?

After Lagos to ibadan. The east-west rail corridor should have been prioritized all the way to Portharcourt.

Abuja to Kano should be third on the list, then ibadan - ilorin-minna - Abuja

. There is. This can spur economic activities between the countries and help improve Niger utilization of Nigerian ports. If the propose kaduna refinary is renewed it can help fastened fuel exchange between Nigeria and Niger.

But the main concern is the priority of this project, going by high traffic volume and profitability.
The lagos- ibadan
Onitcha - owerri-aba-Portharcourt (segment of east - west rail)
Lagod-Ibadan - ilorin -minna-Abuja
Abuja-kaduna - kano.

The Portharcourt -maidiguri should be last on the list and should only be developed when other critical rail line has been made.

There is no economically this train can make sense economically... It's impossible to break even... Would never make a profit.. Never

The only viable train in Nigeria is Lagos to Abuja

Lagos to port Harcourt with branches to Onitsha ans aba... That's all
Even this one is even not sure

No other van be viable

Creating revenue for boko haram and bandits

The Abuja-kaduna rail, you know how much bandits realized from that when they derailed the train, shot travelers and kidnapped some

This project should be canceled and rather cattle ranch built in that region for obvious reason, Niger repluboc doesn’t have any significant economic importance to Nigeria for that huge capital to be wasted

Nonsense!

Building railway into another Country!

Is Uganda not landlocked that they depend on Kenya's port for their sea cargoes and to ease things for them Kenyan Government had their railway line extended to their boundary with Uganda, for Ugandan government to continue from, to wherever they want it to terminate within Uganda but Nigeria is like a man who is yet to well provide for his children but sees nothing wrong with paying his side chick's bills while his children struggle.
