You just don’t wake up and do giveaway to “somebody” unless you are a philanthropist, before someone can give you something valuable it will be because of your relationship to them and not just because you are “somebody”.
Though, Collecting gift back isn’t too classy, but i can understand people that does it especially when it involves huge investment or maybe then bought it for you in terms of need themselves.
