You are not understanding me. There were igbo raps in the 90s before AY but unknown to yorubas that's why they think AY started before others. in this present generation, some lay claim to Dagrin as first because they don't know about Massai who was a hit in the SE and SS. Nollywood is all about igbos culture. Language is a different thing. Chinese epic movies are mainly English. Business first

That's not true. They are all made in Chinese but dubbed in English for international market. That's why their mouth moves faster than the words being said.

Some people actually think that Nollywood started with 'Living In Bondage ' and 'Domitila'. Smh.

Aisha is even schooling them for free when they should be paying to recieve this kind of knowledge.

Everything about entertainment in Africa, from the first TV station to the first stadium etc, has its root in Ibadan, the heart of Yorubaland through the vision of our forebears. Thank you Aisha for the free education you are giving them.

Entertainment business is total package and it's bringing in billions into Nigeria through the Nigerian music, sports and film industry pioneered by the Yoruba and still owned by the Yoruba.

The chart bursting Nollywood films are produced in Yoruba but subtitled in English, Asake sings in Yoruba, all the Nigerian music Stars that performed at his UK show, including Tunde Baiyewu of Light House, are Nigerians and Yoruba with link to Nollywood. Most of those sound tracks in Yoruba films come from these Yoruba global Musicians.

Even Gospel musicians like Tope Alabi are connected to Nollywood while World Boxing Champion Anthony Joshua, World Athletics record-holder Tobi Amusan, along with Odunlade Adekola, Olamide, Teni and others are Glo Ambassadors, Iya Rainbow, Lateef Adedimeji, Dele Odule from Nollywood as Airtel Ambassadors, with their faces all over local and international Nigerian entertainment contents sponsorship.

Yoruba started Nollywood when the rest of Nigeria and Africa had not even seen or watched a TV in their lives and the Yoruba still own Nollywood till date.

The Yoruba can teach others in Nigeria and Africa how they sustain this global feat and dominance of entertainment if others are humble enough to learn from the Yoruba. We are all Nigerians/Africans and we can learn from one another.

So you have now diverted to separatist tendencies. That alone can land you in hot water in Nigeria. The DSS can arrest you for that.

Yoruba get Nollywood yoruba since they couldn't break into the English version of Nollywood Epic
Don't just bring Igbo at all into this early history matter at all...even south south actors and actresses out performed the Igbo in d movie industry. Early actors from 1960, 1970 and 1980 were majorly Yorubas. It was the Igbo that migrated to the South West and Lagos that created Nigerian movie awareness for the Igbos in villages.

Im sure , you are just trying to get noticed.... What is giving yorubas edge is promoting their culture and not promoting English language, check the content of the yoruba movies and the ones in English nollywood.... Movie is not just all about useless stories where the end can be predicted.
Check yoruba music too, infact if any artist must blow in Nigeria, they must infuse Yoruba language into their lyrics to give it a unique touch....

Stop playing, stay humble and learn, yorubas are not chestbeaters
Everybody infuse different local languages. Tiwa Savage, Davido, 9ce etc infuse Igbo too

These tribalists keep getting the concept all wrong. Normal theatre productions yes it started with Yorubas. Even in the 60s most Nigerian motions picture were done by the whites based on some of Wole Soyinka's books and Chinua Achebe's books. But in terms of motion picture and the rapid commercialisation of Nigerian movies it started with Living in Bondage courtesy of Nek Video links. The man had to take people from NTA then to produce that movie. So the statement that Nollywood started with Yorubas is very misleading and false.

Critics are saying that streaming platforms have come on board and are now pumping money into the industry and that the Yoruba aspect of Nollywood is playing catch-up. What can you say about that?

She responded well & accurately..

We own the industry. Go back to research. The industry belongs to the Yoruba people. If you go back to research, you will hear from people like Hubert Ogunde and Ade Love. I don’t want to go into details. But, if you go and research very well, you will discover that Yorubas own this industry, we started this industry. We messed up at some point, but we are not playing catch-up. We are there already. Now, everybody wants to shoot a Yoruba movie.

Smh. Is that the lie they gave you? You don't know nada. Nollywood is the name given to Nigerian indigenous films industry. That means indigenous films by Nigerians, produced by Nigerians and transmitted to private homes and shown at cinema.

While you were hyping Living in Bondage in the east, several decades before then had been Nigerian films that were block busters that you never knew because such technology which had gained ground in Yorubaland had not reached the East. Nobody in the whole Eastern Nigeria has even seen let alone watch TV until later.

Television started in Yorubaland at a time the rest of Nigeria and Africa had never seen or watched TV! While the Yoruba were producing films and other contents for TV, the technology has not even reached your side and other parts of Africa.

It's completely fraudulent to now attempt to insinuate Nollywood started when you started watching TV long years later. The Yoruba films being beamed on TV then started Nollywood. You should be grateful to those Yoruba pace setters of Nollywood.

Name one Nigerian movie before Living in bondage that was a blockbuster that had sales. That was not the exclusive preserve of NTA then? Please stop lying abeg.
If it is theatre production which is a subset of the movie industry, yes it is the exclusive preserve of Yorubas. But Nollywood which is commercial motion picture movies started by igbos with Living in Bondage

Nah which year be that?

See you guys should stop displaying your ignorance in HD. Nollywood is commercial motion picture movies just like Hollywood, subsequently the American version of Broadway theatre presentation is the similar ones that Yorubas are well known for. Now if we look at the definition well you will realise that Nollywood actually kicked off with Living in Bondage by igbos and you can easily tell how many million copies were sold. I dare you if Yorubas actually started Nollywood, can you give me a yoruba blockbuster before Living in bondage and show us data on how many million copies sold and the movie company that produced it?

Stop mixing up theater productions and Nollywood. No one lumps Broadway and Hollywood together. These are two distinct subsets of the movie industry.

You're the one who is wrong and wrapped in tribalism.

Life evolves, hence the concept of evolution is applicable to almost every aspect of life, except birth and death, maybe. Nollywood means movies made in Nigeria, be it cinema, video cassettes, TV or Netflix; in Yorùbá, Hausa, English, French, etc. Nollywood, as an industry of many internal variants, has evolved over the years and stages of production. It is unwise and illogical to discard the early stages of growth and suddenly say Nollywood was birthed as a teenager, not as a baby. Lol

When are we ever going to stop all these nonsense dick measuring? Nollywood became what it is today, thanks to the contribution of the practitioners from the SW, SE, SS and NC. If your can do your unbiased research, your will find people from these geopolitical zones well represented from the beginning. Igbos played their parts, so did the Yorubas, so did the Niger-Deltans and many other great tribes of this nation.

Don't be deluded. Yorubas too were recording movies in vhs during that time infact earlier than that. Its just that Yoruba films then were limited to southwest due to language barrier. What propel Igboz movies then was the use of English even we in southwest watched those films. But its not to say those Igbo English films started earlier in vhs than yoruba movies. That's a blatant lie from hell. We are d pioneer of nollywood

They were recording on celluloid, specifically Hubert Ogunde. That wasn't Nollywood.

Nollywood is as the one that went beyond our shores, Ibos started it with VHS tapes and Upper Iweka market distributors, Ebinpejo lane, etcetera.
