We got to stop being wasteful, these bikes should have been sold to Nigerian automobile companies like Nord or Innoson for recycling.

You should stop being hypocritical because - would you buy them,if you are called upon?
Wouldn't you tell your gaulibles audiences that ' na lie, they want to collect money from us' a typical Nonsense write-ups on Nairaland Forum-that many Youths, especially from the East- key into all the time!

Humiliating, humbling, frustrating and punishing his fellow men. Making his fellow men to shed tears. What this guy did to Igbo traders at Ikoku led to the deaths of some of those men.
No wahala. God dey.

Why not auction them or give them to teenagers to convert them to some other uses.

Punishment mustn't be about destroying things.

Now you're conveniently twisting the narrative.

A foreigner who has no prior knowledge of the goings-on in Nigeria, will read this your comment and end up with a very negative perception of governance on all levels.

For 17years now, there has been a standing order for commercial motorcycles to avoid the city center and other prohibited routes. But typical Nigerians who are habitual law breakers, will stupendously deviate from the laws, then crime apologists like you will lambast the government when repercussions are dished out. Tomorrow you'll still be the same person to weep about how lawless Nigeria is.

What do you people even want in this country?!
Thank you o . So because some few elites break the law , we should allow everyone else to break the law . Even the almight USA have elites getting away with breaking laws . It is not a totally fair system . But it is what we have . If you see how these mostly unregulated bike guys operate , you will fear . People’s cars get burnt because a bike guy hits a car in a place they are prohibited . Happened right in front of me in Apo mechanic Abuja .

Until they become victims of the bad bikemen either as a passenger or as a road user , they will never learn .

did you read the part were they have been banned since 2006 but keep returning there? When you travel to Johannesburg or Capetown, you'd admire it. But people no wan hear word here, especially those hausas. That's their business, they were told to operate in the suburbs, but they kept flouting the order. Can they try that in US without getting a fine or license siezed?

i am not against the seizing of the motorcycles, i mentioned that there can be better ways to dispose the seized items.

Lol, destructive government.
When people are doing legitimate work, they are always the target of bad government.
When those okada riders join boko haram or any other criminal group, the same government will be crying foul. Although let them keep people to the wall.
I don't know how you define your own legitimate oo

A country that has nothing to offer even struggling to survive shouldn't be wasteful like this, why not return the bikes to the owners and make sure that they fine heavily, imagine 10k fine for each of this bike will generates a lot of money

My thought, too. Why not just impose a fine to discourage people from using motorcycles in the capital city? This way, revenue will be generated.

It seems majority of our politicians become numb and stupid once they attain power and hence become reckless and thoughtless.

I am quite sure 60%/70% of those whose motorcycles were seized are either graduates or trained artisans who resorted to okada business owing to joblessness or lack of capital to start their various vocations.

You don't reduce poverty by eliminating the poor but in the flipside, this is Nigeria, anti-clockwise is the name.

I hope some of the affected bikers will not explore the options of suicide.

Instead of Adolf Hliler Wicked Wike will destroy those motorcycles,

He should sell them gbanjo (cheap price) in Niger or Cameroon and use the fund as a palliative to local indigenes of FCT.

Bush people mentality

That’s wasted foreign exchange used to import that

Let the owners pay a fine and take it out of Abuja

It’s like trying to compete with elrufai who is more wicked

It is one way to try and stop them from entering restricted areas . Note that there are places they are allowed to operate so it’s not like there are no alternatives to being a lawful bike man . Providing alternative jobs is another way . But until thosejobs are available , we cannot allow breaking of laws .

You don't need to tell me bro.

Abuja motorcyclists and Keke riders are a menace. They cause accidents with their reckless road stunts, and when you seek to caution them, they quickly form clusters around vehicle owners with daggers and other remorseless pieces of glass and metals.

Sometime in March this year, a fulani bike guy ran into an Army man's Rav-4 at Galadimawa junction and was crude enough to even insult and threaten the man with a small knife. Man simply parked on that open space under the bridge being constructed and in no time, that roundabout was littered with military, mopol and DSS officials, all escorting the FCTA personnel who came with bulldozers. Bikes crushed that afternoon were way over the number in this report.

We're just too lawless in this country.

First, no house should be demolished regardless of who owns it regardless of the circumstances only in Naigeria i read houses are demolished why not use it for other services?! the services that suits.

Again, only the poor breaks the law in a country where the president is a convicted drog dealer. grin grin Wike himself is suddenlly a saint also. grin

Rubbish comparison again, if we follow your ideas then anyone who steals a pen should be treated as a murderer. grin grin

Breaking the law? grin grin every naigerian breaks the law every 10 minutes in Naigeria. Many Naigeria drives with no head lights, no license and drives on the wrong lanes. Every Naigerian is guilty of bribery and corruption every 10 minutes in Naigeria, Naigerian police, politicians and military commites crimes daily in Naigeria.

Don't even start me off on corrupt, biased judges and biased, corrupt Kangaroo courts cheesy grin

Brings me back to only the poor breaks the law in Naigeria. You may not like it but it is the sad truth

Your Hatred for the justice system will not remove from the rule of law.

Tinubu is NOT convicted in the USA or Nigeria . Go and verify . Though I will agree with you that he was definitely shady with drug dealers .

Sad you don’t get the comparison. There are consequences for stealing pen . There are consequences for killing . If you start removing the consequences of stealing pens , you should as well remove that for murder.
It is funny that the argument you are making is the same reason Nigeria justice is where it is today . You want poor law breakers to get a pass because some of the rich ones are ? Because some of the judges are corrupt , everyone should be allowed to break laws ? Come on .

There are several cases of the rich getting convicted . Same thing with the poor . I agree that it is majorly skewed against the poor . However it is not enough reason to allow removal of the consequences . You break the law , you get caught , you pay for it .

If the law states that is the consequence , then I support it . I also think they can make money off of it by auctioning them off to spare parts dealers . But whether destroyed or auctioned off, the bike guy loses the bike .

Impounding of motorcycles belonging to errant riders is lawfully permissible. What becomes of those seized motorcycles is solely within the purview of the authorities.

grin grin grin You are just happy it isn't your bike that is being destroyed, because the bike are for other poor naigerians then it is a crime therefor destroy it!! Don't give them a chance to get their wrongs right, how about fine them, give them strong warning, tell them to relocate esle where and and continue their trade

You want to eat your cake and still have it, when it comes to crimes and punishments right?

If every crime cannot be punished then none should.

If every criminal is not jailed then none should be.

You cannot pick and choose who or the criminals to punish or when to punish a crime.

I am can bet ass that YOU have committed some sort of crime in Naigeria just this week. You may not even think or believe it is a crime. grin grin .

There have never being any case of the rich or a politician has being sent to jail or punished of a crime in Naigeria. Give me one example, just one!
