Festus Osifo, the president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), says the federal government has questions to answer as regards the gains of subsidy removal.

President Bola Tinubu had announced the removal of petrol subsidy at his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023.

Following the speech, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) raised petrol price from N189 per litre to N568 per litre.

With NNPC spending N4.39 trillion ($9.7 billion) on a petrol subsidy in 2022, Tinubu said removing the subsidy on premium motor spirit (PMS) would reduce expenses and help the government to save more from revenue generated.

Speaking on the matter during an interview on AriseTV on Wednesday, Osifo asked where the money saved since removing the subsidy is.

He said since the government announced N1 trillion has been saved, there is no reason to continue borrowing money, adding that FG should simply deploy part of the funds on Nigerians.

“The President and commander in chief on its own came and said the country has saved N1 trillion. The Federal government went everywhere to announce that if subsidy is removed, it’s going to save substantial money,” Osifo said.

“And so, we don’t expect them to go everywhere and start borrowing money. They told us they are going to save money. So where is the money that you have saved and how have they deployed this money?”

Osifo’s comment comes a day after TUC and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announced that workers’ unions will embark on an indefinite strike on October 3, 2023.

He said the unions have exhausted their arsenals and have been left with no choice but to proceed on the definite strike next month.

A drug lord can actually save money but I doubt if a kleptomaniac like Tinubu can save. It seems impossible.

Wait for supplementary budget.

Let's not deceive ourselves, the government is now richer than before but no expenses can be made outside the budget.

In the lieu of the above, I implore every sane Nigerians to be patient and only criticise when the budget is not well implemented.

Moreover, everyone is not a member of both TUC and NLC, what happens to ordinary people on the street if only your demands are met?

I call on the president and the national assembly to FasTrack the passage of the supplementary budget into law.

But the TUC and NLC should not bully the president to act only on their damand without due process being followed.

If I were the president, I will dare you to go on your so called indefinite strike, I will start by not paying your salaries for this month and get you sacked with your replacements waiting on the wing.

Idiots.

After all, obidients Messiah didn't do anything in Anambra state for 8 years.

He claimed to have saved the money in the bank which he has interest and invested the rest in Hero Beer which later worth next to nothing.

So Mr Osifo shouldn't be apprehensive, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is not and will always be different from the Pandora.

Nigeria is in a safe hands.

Why are you complaining on their behalf?

It seems you are really suffering just like majority of your people.

Why is complaints only coming from one section of the country?

Even the core northerners are not feeling the heat like you guys.

Why?

Now, we know who's truly almajiri.

What do you mean by illiterate? Do you think Tinubu would be impeached if he spends outside the budget? Who will impeach him? Well, I don't think your question is an answer to my initial questions or in any way related to this thread. Good day.

Oga, you are not making any sense.

The TUC asked simple questions: where was the money saved and how much do you have there?

They didn't ask for a lengthy sermon.

Why are simple things difficult for you people to understand?

Unfortunately, you are just a foot soldier and cannot answer the question. Your role is just to defend absurdly.

Listen to yourself again, you said they only asked the government where is the money.

You want the government to answer that foolish question?

The president has already said the country has now saved one trillion naira, what else do you want?

The truth is, they want their demands met which is not possible without reviewing the budget.

So?
