Both styles are good, can be used concurrently, and at different times. What is bad in coupling good approaches if an occasion demands it?

Good leadership starts with number 2 where the leader leads by example and solidifies his values into his followers so that he can now do 1 ie oversee with minimal input as they gain mastery!

Leadership is not set on stone.
Both are qualities of good leaders. So depending on the scenario, pic could represent a familiar track that has been dealt with several times in the past so Leader Mama Chicken is grooming her chicks to step up and show that they have been taking notes. @OP They are both good leaders in separate life realities..

Case 1: The mother hen is following her chicks closely from the back to keep watch on them so hawks won't snatch any of them.. 'oromo adiye o mo asa, iya e lo mo'.

Case 2: The mother duck is leading the way to teach her ducklings how to navigate terrains and avoid danger.. No hawk to snatch them like the chicks.

So you see, it all depends on the type of situation and realities on ground.. No 'one size fits all' aproach anywhere.
