Why do you think you need a house of your own now?
Re: House, I Am Confused by Timothy89(m): 3:32pm On Oct 12, 2023
beg your host to give you 4-5months, find money to the savings of that 5months and get Toyota Yaris you can use to move to work from the mainland, you can be picking passengers on your way to work and back from work to fuel the car and keep for maintenance

Put up in the least accommodation closer your office. If possible shared for the time being until you acquire and realize your plans ahead. Best of luck

Yaba and Surulere rent is in the same range as Ajah. I will still have to pay a million plus to get a miniflat there.
Go and look for decent house in Ogombo with fair rent.

Good evening house.

I am in a dilemma and I need advice on what to do.

A bit of background about myself: I am a 29 years only child from a very poor background. I work for an IT firm which i joined in 2019 as a graduate trainee.

My total income is around 490k (400k from main job, 90k from a writing side gig).

My challenge:
Recently, My host have told me to look for my accommodation and I have been searching for houses. Unfortunately, the places closer to my places of work is expensive.

I work in VI and the cheapest mini flat I have seen in close vicinity is 1.2M at Ajah.

I also have have a building project I am undertaking in the village that is at roofing stage and my parents have been pressuring me to settle down as the only child.

My dilemma is this, If i go for the house at Ajah, it will eat a bulk of my savings, thereby making it impossible for me to complete the building project or even start the process of settling down.

If I go for a cheaper but farer location, I will be spending more time in traffic.

Please, how do I manage this?

Move to a small self con 500k house in yaba .

Use the priority matrix. It will help you.
1. Suspend the village house project (I have reasons for this advice)
2. Rent the N1.2m Ajah house (I have reasons for this advice)
3. Resist the pressure to marry immediately, especially if you are not currently engaged (e get why)
4. If you do 1 & 2 above, there are people you would meet, there are connections, and moves you will make as an IT person that will surprise your current version in a few months down the line (this is a maths)
5. Other things will naturally follow.

Be wise

It's not about what you make, it's about your net . When outflow is greater than your income, you are not financially stable

Interesting šŸ¤”šŸ¤” hmmm you have to think very well about this please don't scout with anyone please šŸ™ look around that area you are currently working I'm very sure you will see some one room self contain like a BQ or even if is security house just manage it for now until you finish that your project in the village very well and furnished it then open your own office while still leaving in that ur one self con
Re: House, I Am Confused by udeh3(m): 3:49pm On Oct 12, 2023
It depends on how you view it...

If you work in VI, you can get a decent apartment, like 2bedroom in Surulere for like 800/850k which is less than 20% of your annual income. 20/25% of your annual income should be for shelter according to UNICEF. You can also get that around Yanuworu or Estate which isn't too far from VI in all sincerity when compared to Ajah. The price from Ajah to VI is almost 1k if not more now. But from Yanuworu or Surulere, you'll spend less.

As for the building, brother, be calming down. Settle your rent issues, then, settle down. Dem nor dey finish house once if the money never dey. You can always finish d house.

At 29yrs, if you settle down, it's not bad. After renting your house, furnishing it will take some time. Furnish your rented apartment and settle down. Don't just marry a liability.

The house in the village is a project you alone should determine when to finish it. Don't allow your parents to put you under pressure. As a young man, settle down first after renting and furnishing your apartment.
Note: Don't rush into a relationship if you are not into one yet

Much love from here
Peace!

Re: House, I Am Confused by Winneygirl(f): 3:54pm On Oct 12, 2023
Look for a roommate.
Split that cost.

Also, how can you be squatting, and be building a house in the village?
You think your host doesn't want to build a house too?

Also, i suspect that you told your parents your salary. That's why they are calculating all the things you need to do.

U never ready. U must not stay in a mini flat since u know what ur targeting and with ur building project in the village as u said. Why can't u look for a selfcon or a shared apartment that will go for far less than 1.2? They're everywhere even around Lekki; Chevron, agungi, osapa, orchid road, ikota u can get depending on u and they're not far from VI u just need to dey wake early to beat that traffic and relax for one cool spot after u close to avoid spending time in traffic burning fuel and stressing ur life

You can look for shared apartment where you pay maybe 600k - 700k

Btw, 1.2m is less than 3months salary so you have to endure it should you wanna stay all alone

Your host realy tried especially if you ain't paying him/her

Are you normal
Your first house is in the village, I don't get it
For what purpose?
You did not try Ikorodu, Agric, Mowe, and the rest, for your shelter and economic value
You went to village that people we live in for free.
There is ferry from ikorodu to VI
All the best

guy why must you do 1.2m levels for house?

if you are staying alone, get a self-contain even around surulere or lagos island and take advantage of the bus transit

and here is the advise proper.!

KNOW IT THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WITH MUCH MORE RESPONSIBLITIES LIKE MARRIED WITH CHILDREN AND YET THEIR MONTHLY INCOME DOES NOT AMOUNT TO HALF OF WHAT YOU ARE GETTING.

so brace up and let that be your motivation
