This is pure scam and not a new format by yahoo boiz...they will surely mail the check to whoever is going to receive it on your brothers behalf, they will mail $2000 check to the receiver (victim) and request a refund of 50% back to another account claiming it was a mistake on their path to have sent the full payment instead of the planned 50% deposit. The victim will refund $1000 and keep the remaining but banks will detect the money is from a hacked account and will debit the receiver (victim) the entire $2000, the yahoo boiz just cashed out cool $1000 without a sweat while your brother and the good Samaritan fight over what happened to his/her account.

Nairaland moderator is also ignorant of this scam by ignorantly giving the format free publicity, seun your mods needs to be street wise, it is not everything you push to frontpage, investigate first.

I think it's the US resident they are after. They need his account and address. His account to over pay and then ask for refund. Address, for them to trace him in case he refuses to do the refund.

This doesn't look shady at all, it is actually a scam. This has been tried on me many times. I am a digital marketer. They won't send you the exact amount, they will send you cheque in excess and ask you to forward the rest. If the cheque clears you will eventually be arrested by the bank and will be made to refund the money.

Trust me, this is a big scam.

The moment you hear "Payment Processing", know it's coming from a Nigerian low-life scammer.

They want to use whoever will fall for this nonsense scam as a mule to cash and remit fraudulent checks back to them.

also for a domestic renovation they are more likely to hire tradesmen/contractors who will work unsupervised

I live in the United States and I work for a civil engineering firm. An American company will never ever contract a building design to an outsider because there is an ordinance code and design procedure that they all must follow.secondly companies can do wire transfers to any bank any where in world… I have paid someone for a project directly in Nigeria through wire transfer before. Also check the email url of the sender is it a personal email or a company email.

It's most probably a scam. Once you accept that you have someone to cash the cheque, they will make out a big cheque and ask that the person sends most of it back to them. And later police will arrest the person that cashed the money. By then he has already sent the money to them. That's how they fraud people in USA.

It's not real. A check will be sent to the relative you have in the US but it's going to be more than the bargained amount, then your relative will be required to forward the excess money when the check cleared. The check will burst eventually in matter of hours or days and your relative will be made to pay the money by their bank.

Lol the main scam here is to get you to push a person you know in US to fall into their Cheque scam. There is no building project , don’t fall into this cheap scam

This is a fake cheque scam. And it works mostly for US residents. Because most of their banks give you access to the amount on the cheque even when the cheque is yet to be cleared or the authenticity of the cheque has not been verified.

If your pay was $2000 the scammer will send you a cheque for maybe $10k and he will ask you to keep the $3k for yourself and forward $7k to an account that will be provided for you.

When the bank later finds out that the cheque didn't clear or it was a fake cheque. Everything will come back to you. And the scammer will be nowhere to be found then. A case of complete OYO. Mugu fall guy man wack.

This looks real. They are not asking him to pay anything. A scammer either wants you to pay or they want your ID details for fraud. None of these is here in the message. Collecting a cheque is harmless. They probably want this job done on the cheap. That amount is cheap for the job. Let him go with the flow. But he must promise himself never to pay any dime or release his bank details at anytime.

Cheque is the British English spelling, whereas American English uses check.
