In other countries all over the world, where the companies are not leaving, prices increased so what's your point?

They have no control over the cost of materials so it's pointless if they stay or go, the price will still go up.

It's common sense.

Is the rest of the world finished because they are paying more for drugs?

Just abuse Nigeria as usual and stop using the price of drugs to hide your ignorance and anti-Nigerian rhetoric.

Baba.. You dunno that the cost of importation will now be factored into the final prices of these drugs (since the manufacturers have left Nigeria)?

U go explain explain explain tire.... Just dey play!

Most of the big pharmaceutical companies have left Nigeria, the reason the drugs are expensive. Don't try to be smart by half!
Also the destruction of the value of the naira. The inability of those companies to repatriate their their revenue. The high operating local cost. Which company can run generators at ₦1300 per liter of diesel? Imagine how much it will cost to run eg a 1000 kva generator for 24 hrs. Millions!

Drug prices increased above the inflation rate all over the world, but you don't think it should be increased in Nigeria.

Do you people really think Nigeria is above or immune to global inflation and price increases?

I bet you want the government to subsidize that too,,

It's common sense, prescription drug prices have nothing to do with Nigeria, it's part of the global inflation so it makes no difference if they stay or leave, the price will still go up.

Are you serious about what you are saying?

because they will still need to import the needed chemicals before they can manufacture such drugs.
or do you want them to manufacture fake drugs for you ?
better urge your government to address the main reasons why companies are folding up in Nigeria.[/quote

Also, I think it's just plain stupid to always assume na only una dey run things or na only una sabi do things for this country. Just because others don't go about beating chest don't mean they don't have things going for themselves.

Please don't be smart by half.
Let's agree drug companies increased prices of drugs to the NHS by 8% as equated by you.
If the price of drugs eg Augmentine increased from ₦2500 to 20,000-₦25,000 or coveram 10 10 from 5,500 to ₦20,000, is that an increase of 8%?

In summary gsk moved production to another country try cos production costs were high

They could have increased their sales cost by 100% but they chose the cowards way out ,let the importers increase their goods to x10 the former price, they don't care cos Nigerians will buy anyway

The trick is to understand how gsk appears to think, they know Nigerians will buy regardless of the price,so they export to us instead of adjusting sales cost

I think the country should quickly fund or mass import good alternatives and ban all gsk products in Nigeria,

Their sales from Nigeria is more than a lot of countries combined

Swiftgrp:

It's not just about GlaxoSmithKline leaving Nigeria as a result of global cost-cutting measures.
GSK are not leaving due to any global cost-cutting measures, but because of Tinubu's bad policy.

Are you aware that Nigeria is GSK largest market? Why would they leave after 51 years, if not that the market is not favorable to them.

Swiftgrp:

From well-known facts on the ground, the very high spike in the cost of those pharmaceutical products majorly has to do with the massive greed and the criminal act of hoarding the old stock of these pharmaceutical drugs by the dealers and retailers. These are the criminals who would blame the politicians but they themselves are an epitome of massive greed and corruption.
I don't like people that don't take responsibility. Now you are blaming dealers, and exonorating Tinubu that plunged us into this mess.

Swiftgrp:

The government too has to put in place price control mechanisms so that these creeps do not continue to exploit the innocent folks who need the medications. Price control is need in not just the pharmaceutical sector, the food chain sector, but every other sector. Yes, price increments are a norm worldwide but price control is what keeps them from being too hogh. Offenders have to be punished subsequently for going a above a price ceiling.
You are one of the problems if this country. Tinubu destroyed the country, GSK left, the dealers adjusted their prices to the new economic realities and you are calling the government to put a price cap on the products and still punish those who don't.

Do you think we run a planned economic system where one ediot will wake up after fvcking his wife and slap prices on commodities?
