Surely there must be one or two research studies by Nigerians on this food item. Anyone have links to any such studies...or the scientific name of this insect?

This is a nutritious meat that sustained most homes in my home town during the 1983 crisis and military government austerity that led to famine. Its called "kánnì" in my l9cal language and I don't know what it's called in English. Do you know this creature and what is it called in your local language?

@popplm,
What 1983 crisis are you talking about here?

Whoa! I never knew such a delicacy exists in Yoruba cuisine or indeed Nigerian cuisine as I can see Nupes, Idomas, and more on this thread all giving local names for this food. I would love to taste it out of curiosity if it's well prepared one day.
