I feel sorry for all of you defending this guy. You want to play hard ball with the president of Nigeria and your state contributes nothing to the federation and you are already bankrupt? This is the dumbest move I have ever seen. If this guy was a manager in my company, he would be fired immediately because he sure is going to run the company down. In this case, he will run the state down. Now there is a ban on foreign loans. Let us see how he will survive. We are watching,

Don't mind them. When the guy loses the little access he has to the Presidency to lobby for his constituency, it is the same fellows that will come here and shout marginalization! This politics of US versus THEM is not only childish, but also responsible for so many unnecessary overheating of the polity!

Its hard to find a bigger dunce on the political terrain. The man thinlks being governor is the same as chasing buses in the motorpark!
Nobody can blame him though, its quite possible he forgot his oath of office in Lagos where he lives.

Imagine running a state that can barely breath and then challenging the source of oxygen to a battle? Does the man smoke wee-wee?

Maybe he has plans to borrow money from Lagos where he lives, or more to his character, engage in thuggery (maybe even armed robbery) to pay salaries.
Anyways, I expect the slaps to flow freely in Osun in the next few weeks as frustration deepens.

I really feel sorry for Osun, a state so blessed with culture and history, the great Ife of old, to be punished with a governor who views his office with such disdain that he lives elsewhere; all that would be bad enough without adding that he tells high stories, violently slaps any dissenters, does fuckall and exhibits subhuman characteristics.

All hail RASCALS! embarassed

I agree. If he ever comes close to  slapping Sambo, he should be ready to spend the rest of his life in Gusua.

Very silly move by Aregbesola, two wrongs dont make a right! The cops did the right thing by turning back his supporters.

If he felt so aggrieved by what happened to his supporters, why didnt he go to the courts?  Many people dont understand their role and place in this new type of government, unfortunately. Freedom doesnt mean you can go anywhere and foment trouble. The police have a duty to perform, to maintain law and order and if it involves turning certain people back from having access to Abuja, SO BE IT. Kudos to police for acting fast and decisively.

Shame on Aregbesola

Shame on ACN

Shame on the SW for producing such an im/becile as a leader

Shame!  Shame!! Shame!!!

Na wah o! see Nigerian youth who really wants a change. No wonder we are saddled with fresh air but not PDP.

So police can turn back anyone and deport or interdict them for obvious political reasons. Or people visiting any part can now be prevented by the whims of the police.

So not observing protocol and maybe saying 'Your excellency' is now a serious crime than arbitrarily denying the right of movement (and peaceful assembly) guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.

Educated Nigerians have failed this country

BTW: why are you not recommending the courts to Sambo to seek redress for disrespect?
Re: Gov Aregbesola Snubs Sambo In Osogbo by Gbawe: 4:19pm On Oct 28, 2011
We all hate how the federal government use our armed forces and institution partisanly . It is so bad that Obama made a thinly veiled jibe at Nigeria over how we need strong institutions and not strong men. Aregbesola's protest , on behalf of his citizens treated inhumanely on account of orders from above, is very pertinent because evil thrive where good men do nothing !! Enough is enough of the FG using the police like its own private maigaurd to harass and disenfranchise others who have rights under our laws and constitution.

Is it today they have been using the armed forces partisanly against the opposition? How many ocassions should we list? Minus protest like this from the likes of Aregbesola, not a damn thing will change!!!  Abeg, more of this . If our Governors and leaders did not go along blindly with every nefarious scheme and actions of the FG then we might not be where we are today. With more people of clout standing up to the FG, perhaps Nigerians can harbour hope.

Senate to deliberate on ACN supporters’ arrest
Written by  Oluwole Josiah, Abuja

The Senate on Thursday voted to consider a motion on the arrest and breach of the fundamental rights of supporters of the Action Congress of Nigeria barred from entering Abuja by the police on Wednesday.

Members of the Osun State chapter of the ACN were arrested on their way to Abuja on Tuesday and detained till Wednesday by the police in Kogi State.

Senator Sola Adeyeye from Osun State rose on Order 42 of the Standing Rules of the Senate relating to matters of urgent national importance, urging the Senate to consider at another plenary the barring of ACN supportersfrom coming into Abuja.

He said the supporters were on their way to Abuja given that they had the right to do so as guaranteed by the constitution, but were not allowed free movement into the city of Abuja.

After presenting his case, senators, through a voice vote, were unanimous in their decision to take the motion on Tuesday.

The supporters were said to be on their way to Abuja to attend the trial of the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The Osun State Vice-Chairman of the party, Chief Ishola Oyewumi, in Lokoja on Thursday, said their ordeal started at about 6:41pm on Tuesday when the Osun Government coaster bus in which they were travelling was accosted by policemen at Jamata village, near the River Niger Bridge.

He said the policemen almost 10 in number immediately ordered all the occupants of the bus to disembark for identification and thorough checking.

He said, “All of us promptly complied but nothing incriminating was found in the bus with number plate OSGH 192.”

He said they were surprised when the police insisted that they could not proceed on their trip, ordering  them to go back to Osun.

The party leader said before they could offer further explanation, the police ordered everybody back into the bus and directed the driver to return them to  their take-off point.

He said the policemen escorted the bus to a point at Kabba junction before turning back.

Oyewumi said they decided to turn back and continue with the journey only for them to run into the same policemen at Jamata village.

He said the policemen were infuriated by that action and immediately arrested  them.

Among those detained were the state auditor of the party, Mrs. Funke Ogundele, Welfare Officer, Mr. John Olayemi and the state ACN youth leader, Mr Rasheed Adeniji

Others are Assistant secretary, Mr. Omolaoye Akintola, Assistant Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samson Oyebode, Assistant Financial Secretary, Mr. Bakare Idera, among others.

Oyeumi said he and his colleagues and were made to sleep in the open without food and water until about 2pm on Wednesday when they were released to the Kogi Chairman of the party, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo.

governor boycotts vice president - not a big deal in my view.  what makes no sense is sending a representative to read out your protestation. once you send someone along, then decorum demands that the focus of any sppeech should be on the theme of the day.                                                                                that said, i dont believe the nigerian presidency is 'sacred' as someone indicated. the institution has been bastardised over the years through massive corruption, selective application of rule of law, disregard for the rights of the people.                                                                                                                    when we have a decent, honest, and effective govt, the presidency will naturally gain respect. until then, its just another corrupt nigerian institution.

Sometimes, a leader becomes despotic without knowing. We have crazy eye-service loyalists willing to do anything to gain favours.

The case of arrest of ACN supporters may not even be directed by GEJ in the first place, but if there are no forceful actions like this, GEJ may never know.

If there were actions like this in the south against police officers, they wouldn't have grown so much wings that they can kill anybody at anytime.

Fantastic !! Even in recent memory we saw the PDP and the FG using the Police force like its own private junta to intimidate the opposition. Ringim (IG of police) and Akpabio (Governor of Akwa Ibom) even disgracefully refused to follow a Court order to release an ACN opposition politician !!! Abeg this FG , by its actions, is not at all deserving of respect at all. More Governors should stand up to the FG. That should be the new model that brings Nigerians the equity they deserve. Like you surmised a decent and cultured Presidency will get nothing but respect. Kufour (former President of Ghana) was sophistication, class and culture personified . you could not help but like and respect the chap. till today he is racking up international awards up and down. Our own President instead surrounds himself with abusers of fundamental human rights like OBJ who order journalists to be locked up at will . ACN supporters were turned back from entering a Nigerian State and susequently arrested . Heads should roll over this yet nothing will happen. Shior !!!

Who told you I want change?

Yes, it is the job of the police to profile, and if you fit certain profile, of someone/people likely to cause trouble, then they have a duty to protect the rest of us from trouble makers. This time around they have acted preemptively so the rest of us can go about our days without problem.  Thumbs up to them! We know what these guys were going to do in Abuja, we know their antecedents. It is unfortunate that we are all here acting as though these guys were on their way to do CPR on Tinubu or something noble. They are thugs bent on fomenting trouble in Abuja, and the earlier we all come to terms with reality, the better for us all.

The cops did not just turn back any one, there were thousands of people who traveled to Abuja that day. They only stopped Aregbesola's supporters. That tells  a lot.

So not observing protocol and maybe saying 'Your excellency' is now a serious crime than arbitrarily denying the right of movement (and peaceful assembly) guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.

Absolutely. This is democracy for godsake. The post of the VP is more important than the freedom of many an insignificant citizen. We all have a role to protect and respect the position of the VP. Its not about Sambo, its about the office itself. When the citadel of our collective decision making is disrespected, what do you think will happen to the body politic? If we dont condemn his actions now, who knows what he would do to GEJ, all in the name of proving a point? Bloody rascal.

Educated Nigerians have failed this country

I agree with you. So called educated people like you have failed this country, thats why uneducated people like me have taken up the mantle of leadership to ensure decorum in our politics.

BTW: why are you not recommending the courts to Sambo to seek redress for disrespect?

Sambo isnt complaining. It is Aregbesola who felt so hurt that he had to made a fool of himself. He has insulted us all, and we should all be mad at him for making an ar/se of himself and the people he represents, the  'omoluabi' state.

BTW, I like your signature.

This guy Aregbeshola again? always being in the news for the wrong reasons. I think he is about the most popular governor in Nigeria now.

If he is not making us laugh about a proposed funny and unrealistic mega project, he is amazing us with other stuffs like gutter languages and exhibition of crude gestures. Imagine this guy trying to show off a kick-as/s mentality towards the presidency while in fact he is yet to do that to the IG who is the authority in question as far as this case is concerned.

Lets assume he has something against the president because someone somewhere informed him that the order was from the presidency to the IG, can he substantiate that? If this trouble maker can not substantiate it, then he has no justification for attacking the presidency. He should have limited his balderdash to the office of the IG.

One thing that interests me is how these ACN guys fail to realize that the party can not sustain its stance if they continue with this so called rascally approach to everything. Lets ask ourselves, if Fashola the gentleman leaves ACN tomorrow, what would be left of the party? We all know the answer unless those who would only like to deceive themselves.

This is another reasy why you just can not take some folks eriously on NL. I's sadens me that this is a human being
and a Nigeria.

This is what you get when people think they are dirt, worthless and insignificant to others. This is nothing but a slave mentality, a refelction of low self worth. If you think the lives of the people you casted your vote for, the people you pay with your own taxpayers money to serve, honor and protect worth or carries more weight than yours, then you are not fit to live or be any part of any society.

If Obafemi Awolowo was not humble, the type of respect he is given even at death would not have been. Tinubu and his boys should learn.

I think Tinubus' boys should also wait until he is exonerated before they should celebrate. I saw Fashola there and I began to ask why they should be condemning PDP.

A word is enough for the wise.
Re: Gov Aregbesola Snubs Sambo In Osogbo by Beaf: 5:34pm On Oct 28, 2011
What were busloads of aluta singing thugs going to do in Abuja anyway? Especially in this days of boko haram?
The police profiled them and locked them up, only for Aregbesola to seek the corrupt outlet by calling the IG. The IG surely does not man the police station where the Aregbe's thugs were locked up, therefore calling him displays a willingness to bend the rules and break the law.

There is no reason outside of corruption to call up the IG because someone or a rowdy group was arrested; any upright citizen (talkless of a leader who should show example) would have approached the police station in question and quietly dealt with issues there; but not Aregbesola, he feels that when the police arrest his aluta singers, the best thing is to insult the President and by extension the entire country, its laws and standards of morality and decorum. Aregbesola's whole attitude reeks of someone who feels he is above the law, a brigand who is a willing tool for moral arson.

Why would a financially stressed state like Osun send busloads of aluta howlers on questionable missions to Abuja? That surely can't be the best use for the states meagre (or non-existent) resources. Aregbesola is an embarrassment to the nation and to Osun.
