A former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), on Tuesday, said he used to say that any job that is expected to be done properly should be given to a woman.

He said he had a change of mind when the nation had a female minister of petroleum who he claimed excelled in corruption.

Although he did not mention the name of the former minister, he said she set a record that was yet to be beaten by anybody.

Danjuma spoke in Enugu while inaugurating the Goodwill Medical Centre built and equipped by his Foundation at
Umuchigbo, Iji Nike, Enugu.

The GMC project is the brainchild of Prof Uche Amazigo, Nigeria’s renowned pro-poor public health specialist, and one of the few female Africans to have led a specialised UN Agency, overseeing a highly successful multilateral partnership in global health.

He said, “I used to say that if you want anything properly done and deliver on time without any excuses, give the job to a woman until we had a female minister of petroleum. That woman excelled in corruption. She set a record that is yet to be beaten by anybody.

“So, I was in the process of reviewing my statement when I met one lady, Prof. Uche Amazigo Uche and I have come a very long way. My first encounter with Uche was around mid-October 2010 when she, accompanied by Mrs. Franca Ilamiji, another Igbo woman.”

Extolling the character of Prof Amazigo, the retired Army General, said she has made him believe again that women remain the most trusted people to prudently manage public funds.

“Uche and I have been colleagues for many years. After working for the TY Danjuma Foundation, I thought I had seen the end of Uche. I was mistaken.

“In early March 2022, Prof Uche, accompanied by two other female professors, presented to me a request to provide financial support for building and equipping a low-cost high-efficiency medical centre to provide excellent medical services by predominantly female medical doctors, nurses and midwives who chose to dedicate their time to humanity.

“I listened to her carefully and asked a few questions. I wanted to know if they have cash and the name of the organisation. And how she thinks an all-female-staff medical centre will function. She was ready for my questions.

“The result of all these questions is what you see here today.

“This magnificent edifice can only be built by women at the price they accounted to me.

“Men will take your money and and you won’t see any building or money.”

While saluting and congratulating Uche and her team for a job well done, Danjuma expressed hope that they would surpass the goals they set for themselves.

In his speech, the Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, promised to protect the facility to the maximum benefit of the people of Enugu State.

Represented by his deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai, Mbah commended the elder statesman for epitomising leadership both in public service and private life.

He also lauded Amazigo for initiating the project which is primarily going to be of immense benefit to the people of Enugu State.

The CEO of Goodwill Medical Centre, Prof Amazigo, said the objective of establishing the hospital was to provide quality healthcare for all.

“This centre with the assistance of seven Consultant specialists and Professors, will provide low-cost treatment for indigent patients and charge others (the rich) the standard medical fees,” she said.

She disclosed that the centre had perfected plans for the enrollment of 1000 or more indigent people randomly selected from communities, into the National Health Insurance Authority/ Group, Individual, Family Social Health Insurance Programme.

“This will cost about N15 million at the rate of N15,000 per enrollee. This programme will provide comprehensive and robust health care services to the poor,” she said.

As though the military isn't the HQ of corruption.

This is one of the most difficult times to identify as a Nigerian. There is hunger and extremely high cost of maintaining oxygen that is even free.

We have never had it this bad. From the scarcity of Naira to spend our own money to a near-death living.

Ajala is doing the ways of his ancestors... meandering! Overly ambitious yet clueless. Or should I say traditionally self-centred like everyone of them?

Other poor people like myself are there choosing to fight themselves cos of the politicians who have never known darkness in a country where total power outage is regular like dew drops. Of course, they use soldiers and their Hiluxes to buy gas in barrels...I mean, money siphoned from your sweats. Those soldiers also help them avoid the queues.

And because they know the people they rule are empty vessels with the thunderous barks, they always have sth to tell them.

Dear Survivors,

I want to appreciate you for being alive...it's not been easy. I don't know if I am alive but I feel I breathe out and in...so I check it every minute.

If you ever read this in 2092, know that this period in Nigeria was greater than the Great Depression era. I don't know if you'd have steady electricity in 2092 but I doubt. The discovering of oil for the black man was a curse. How much is sachet water? It used to be ₦5 before but it's ₦30 now in 2023. Don't tell me it's ₦15k in 2092, pls. I know by 2092, a lot from my era would have passed on to the greater beyond but I want you to know all they did was so that you could survive. I'd think this generation was a curse but it isn't: it's the leaders who are cursed. You'd read many of my books by 2092 and trust me, I am going to unturn every stones of what we went through. If I would be alive, I'd be feeble and too tired to talk then but I know I would listen to you. During elections in 2092, your first constitutional right should be to protect your lives ...not vote (not like the votes counted during my era tho). First protect, then choose to safely do others.

My dear, we suffered to the brim. Nigeria made us understand that truly, man shall not live by bread alone.

Do your best in 2092 and make sure you put yourself first. It matters.

Although I am typing this, I am having a hard time holding my phone with both hands. It should come as no surprise that the remnants of the peppersoup I consumed the night before are currently residing in my stomach. The inspiring two-square meal is something that many of us do not see. But believe me when I say that our politicians spend billions of dollars every month on wardrobe allowances alone.

Children of mine aged era,

Don't become sober while you're reading this.

Things fell apart and we were no longer at ease. It isn't because we didn't work hard...it's because Nigerian politicians made us expend our energy to get nowhere.

With love from 2023,
Over.

Aswear, that recored can only be broken when a new government take over power, for example after 16 years of APC rule another political party takes over that's when you'll hear what buhari and tinubu did and you'll be shocked to your marrows

Nigeria will hardly see change until we stop worshipping money and we start probing the source of people's wealth. We also need to prosecute everyone found guilty of corruption, and not give them chieftaincy titles.

Wise saying.

There are dimensions to corruption:

Selfishness
Greediness and
Wickedness

Many politicians are wicked how long are we going to live in this physical world? How can one person steal the common wealth of millions. Our hospitals are in a sorry state, our school are under financed, infrastructural decays here and there and yet one person stole this much.
Judgement is coming to the wicked.

Unfortunately people like TY Danjuma is one of the reasons Nigeria is in a mess till date.

This same man is richer than some states in Nigeria by owning oil wells because we live in a corrupt society. He makes millions of dollars monthly doing nothing.

What did he do to deserve those oil wells gifted to him by Obj?
