Same thing happened to my sister ooo...
I took her to this hospital popular one at Ajao Estate..My sister was having serious pain in the addominal region, she couldn't eat,she kept vomiting everything she ate....
That's when I had to take her to the hospital, this doctor said we should go for scan that he suspected appendicitis undecided We got the result from scan, I asked the sonographer if we should be worried....To my surprise, he told us he didn't see anything abnormal in her stomach...

I went back to Doctor to show result,Doctor said this is a serious case, he told my sister to lie on her back to examine......
To cut the story short, he said we should go deposit like 700k, that was when I asked that if truly the appendix has ruptured, won't it show in the scan? I further went in explaining that what if it's a stomach infection...
That was how I took my sister to another hospital and we were treated for Stomach Infection...
Be Careful out there, and anything you don't understand please consult Google.......
To be Forewarned......you know the rest grin angry grin

Nah your stomach your own appendix dey? If sonographer tell you say he no see anything for the stomach, does that mean there is no appendicitis?!.

It's still better than him formulating rubbish and telling you.

And how do you know what's on WebMD is not rubbish?

Stop talking with authority if your way of thinking is so puerile.

Maybe you should get your medical diagnosis from Wikipedia or Facebook.

Imagine a surgeon asking ChatGPT how to stitch you up after a major surgery.

I was so sick last year that I thought otherwise, after been discharged from hospital, the sickness still persist. Not only the sickness, other things were not going fine……

My sister suggested to see a doctor in one of the general hospital here, after thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed High Blood Pressure and prescribed for me BP drugs…..

My sister is a nurse thou and she immediately discredit the doctor. I reported to a friend who is a pharmacist and he gave me 200 drugs to stabilize my tension. (Note that once someone starts using BP drugs, such will use it till eternity)

Naso I took d drug my friend gave me, since then my BP hasn’t been more than 129/75

Most people talking down about it are medical practitioners themselves especially doctors and that's because it hurts their ego. Funny thing is they usually consult google too on most cases.

I personally had a near death experience this year and all thanks to God, google and "pubmed" website.

After spending thousands of naira at both private and government hospital, na google God finally use safe me. Even at that, I wouldn't use the word incompetent but inexperienced, not well trained ( most senior medical practitioners that suppose to train these people have traveled out of the country, eventhough issues like this happen throughout the world but that of Nigeria is getting worse by the day), high work load which could make them unbalance and lack of proper equipment for diagnosis.

But if you are consulting google, you really have to know what you are doing because there are also many wrong information out there .
True. But mostly, it is just to have an idea of what one is dealing with. Even if your findings point to three different likely issues, you are still being informed.

Good for you. I don't know any educated person who is not curious to ask Google about the signs he's noticing in his body

Medical school can't be taught as a crash course
Erroneous belief. Those who would self medicate wouldn't visit you after Google search.
May be I should ask you this question: what is the purpose of millions of contents about medicals on the internet?

Think of the simple things first, and not complicate issues
It was a painless bulge, wouldnt have removed it if not for the deformity.

That's how one yeye doctor was diagnosing jaundice for someone who had Malaria because the eyes was slightly yellow. All HPV tests was negative, till he did malaria serum test.

But jaundice is simply the medical terminology for yellow eyes, and you confirmed the someone had yellow eyes cry
Malaria can cause yellow eyes too btw.
They don't do 'HPV tests' routinely either unless you meant HIV.
I understand the mistrust of medical professionals, but remember many of the quacks are simply just that- quacks and are not trained Drs or nurses.
Nigerian medical professionals are overworked and sadly underpaid. It's crazy the amount of work they have to do and the mental gymnastics too, considering most patients cannot afford healthcare

I usually had this episode of stomach ache. Over time it became so serious that the pains normally lasts days.
During this episodes I’ll throw up. Once I do I’ll feel better.
After which the pains would move to my abdomen.
On one such occasion, I decided to visit a private clinic. After spending so much time, I met the doctor he examined me and said it was appendicitis. He didn’t perform any test. He told me I’ll be admitted for surgery the same day. The only thing that saved me was because I didn’t have the 500k in my account.
I went home, went for a lab test and was told it’s excessive gas in my stomach.
I went with the result to another hospital where drugs were prescribed.
Na so dem for don tear my belle o

Are you sure about this? Are you working based on what your wife told you or what you found out yourself?

Babies don't form in the stomach. They form in the womb. And I really don't see how appendix surgery will deform the stomach and cause a woman to be unable to give birth.

Machinegun91, give yourself some serious orientation. You shouldn't deprive yourself of having kids because one woman damaged her womb.

Whoever destroyed her womb is out there with his own kids while you're the one suffering for it. You deserve better.

Serious advice. The guy don chop him wife lamba.

That you met doctors who had no idea of what to do does NOT give you the right to advise people to consult Google when they want to visit doctors. It's a very wrong and dangerous idea you are giving to people.

You ought to know that there are specialist for various ailment and colloquially, they're called physians or doctors.

Also, it should be noted that Nigerian Healthcare is alarmingly grossly under staffed with specialist healthcare professionals.

When the patient's condition needs the opinion of a specialist, refer tehm to one and stop trying to solve a problem that is beyond you.

We are grappling with a high patient-to-doctor ratio in Nigeria. It’s a situation that inevitably compromises the healthcare interventions we receive. When attending clinics, patients face rushed appointments with doctors who have limited time to thoroughly discuss symptoms or provide detailed explanations. Burnout and fatigue are pervasive among our doctors due to their overwhelming workload, impacting their attentiveness and ability to deliver personalized care. This strain may also impede their capacity to stay abreast of advancements in their practice, potentially leading to preventable complications and worsened health conditions for many in the country.

The existence of diverse specializations underscores the necessity for doctors to refer patients appropriately. Unfortunately, some hospitals in Nigeria may attempt to manage cases beyond their depth of competence, jeopardizing patients' health outcomes. Even with specialists, the diagnostic process often involves a trial-and-error approach. And so, Patients, armed with a bit of knowledge from online resources, can contribute to the consideration of various possibilities in their condition. However, relying on unreliable or inaccurate internet sources may lead to anxiety and overwhelm healthcare providers.

Patients have the right to educate themselves about their health conditions and ask relevant questions without it resulting in communication breakdown. It is concerning that medical doctors on this platform are eager to state they would refuse treatment based on a patient's exercise of their right to actively participate in their healthcare decisions. If you are a medical doctor, and you fail to caution your colleagues here, they are doing a huge disservice to how healthcare providers from Nigeria may be perceived abroad. It may eventually jettison your chance of seeking a better livelihood abroad. I have met doctors who are professionals and they don’t have an issue with you obtaining more understanding about your health condition, the diligent of them even listen, for their concern is not in demonstrating their superiority, but in getting you back to proper health.

So when a very condescending fellow here talks down on people who have lost loved ones due to what they perceive as the negligence of the hospital, and all you can do here is to rebuke them and say they are deserving of such experiences, I again have no doubt that your profession has to rebuke you. Then you state here, you wouldn’t just be bias at a patient showing some understanding, you will choose to intimidate by denying care- but of coz, this not only infringes on the patient's right but also raises ethical concerns, particularly in an environment with little professional accountability.

The notion that healthcare providers in Nigeria are doing a favor by not practicing abroad is an unethical outlook that disregards the principles of beneficence and non-maleficence. Patients, pay for services, and so deserve fair-quality healthcare.

While advising patients to seek professional advice is crucial, the public hospital experience often falls short in the country. Doctors in public hospitals sometimes contribute to patient intimidation, dismissing patient input and compromising accurate diagnoses. Such unprofessional behavior, combined with a lack of regard for patient privacy, raises serious concerns and should not be defended. As an healthcare provider, pls know that your Knowledgeable patients being empowered to actively participate in their health can bring about enhanced communication which should promote a more informed decision-making. Yes, we may not be able to commit to a patient-centered care, but Patients' rights to active participation in their healthcare decisions should be respected, and their demonstration of knowledge or their petitions shouldn’t be a be a basis to penalize them.
