Many communities not see electricity light for 10 years even in urban areas you still can't guarantee 8 hours power supply. You keep increasing tariffs every month like you are selling pepper.

The only president Bola Ahmed Tinubu knows is to hike fuel pump price and electricity tariffs. Causing more hardship for the people that sold their votes to him. He knows nothing about what a president of a country should be.

More Hardship Looms For Nigerians As DisCos Set To Increase Electricity Tariff On Jan 1

While the pains of fuel subsidy removal still linger, the confusion surrounding a planned electricity tariff increment starting from January 1, 2024 has compounded the worries.

It was gathered that the officials of the Nigeria’s Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) held a virtual emergency meeting recently to formalise and perfect the planned tariff increase.

A source in one of the DisCos, who claimed anonymity, confirmed the development to Daily Trust on Sunday.

The source said: “All has been perfected for the new tariff to take effect from the first of January, 2024.

It is now left for various electricity distribution companies to enlighten their customers on new developments.”

The source said the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had already invited distribution companies for a meeting on the development.
He expressed fear that while it is mandatory for electricity distribution companies to regularly evaluate tariffs every six months, the recent increase would meet customers’ dissatisfaction.

“In fact, we were perturbed by the short notice and how we would reach out to our customers about the increase,” he said.
Asked how much the increase would be, the source said, “No idea so far, but the uncertainty has put us in a difficult situation.”

Recall that in November 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stopped the implementation of the electricity tariff, insisting on a power sector subsidy.

Speaking on Tinubu’s directive on electricity tariff hikes, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said, “The power sector is an industry that is very sensitive to any leader.

“You cannot jump overnight and implement the cost-reflective tariff. I can tell you that till today, the government still subsidises power”.

@ TruthsFM

Punch Newspaper said it has been OFFICIALLY denied as just a rumour.

I think they increased it by 25% less-than-6-months-ago and would not want to provoke their customers in the new year... Plus no mention of this new until after the deadline.

DISCOS have always wanted high tariff without a commensurate improvement in efficient distribution by replacing aged and undersized transformers and large scale metering of consumers for objective costing of power consumed.

Darkness costs more in Nigeria

Normally of the had more distribution-reach, it should be getting cheaper commensurately.

The disco sector is a scam. When these companies bought this sector from Government 2012, they signed and agreed to invest in the sector and instease there spread within 10years to cover almost all customers of the entire region they are assigned to, with meter and almost 24hour light as long as it's payable.

Between now&then(11years ago), I bet you they are working less then 40% efficiently. Also with transformers working above capacity.

Anyways banks, amcon have gotten involved in their managements.

These were idiots that allowed Goodluck Jonathan utilize their obtained loans to finds its way into his election investments.

The Tansmission Company of Nigerian that has refused to improve their grid capacity from 5,000MW still remained the bottleneck in the power sector. Now, expecting the electric tariff not to increase when the price of natural gas that contributes 80% to the grid has increased is self-deception.

This fool, has taken tinubu incompetence as Jonathan fault. Stupidity!!

Mumu. Power sector had been privatised long time ago by Jonathan, there's little to nothing FG can do about it. It is now a private business. You want to blame someone, blame Jonathan who sold it at give away prices with the blessing of Dundees like you who said "govt has no business being in business" at that time.

You should as well fault, Jonathan for the hike in price of food products, drugs, transport cost ,and the incessant killing at the middle belt.

Stay focused, damn!

Fool!! 🤦. You see this shege, walaihi it will choke you all that supported tinubu into coma. It hasn't even started.

You would be shocked at how much these same poor Nigerians spend on alternative sources of electric power.

Remember how it was touted that most Nigerians would be too poor to afford cell phone and Internet services decades back?!! Where are we now!

Make the electricity available first... Let the people decide if they can or cannot afford it.

With prepaid meters in every home, we won't even be having this conversation, and Discos would be better off.
