A 72-Year-Old Retired Soldier Identified As Francis Dooga, has allegedly committed suicide in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The deceased allegedly hanged himself on a tree in his residence opposite St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iniongun, a suburb of Makurdi at about 6:00pm on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Dooga popularly known as ‘old soldier’, took the drastic action while members of his family were away from home.

Some residents of the area alleged that the late retiree had earlier complained of hardship.

It was also gathered that the deceased had complained that one of his children was always withdrawing his pension on arrival.

He further complained about not getting his pension in bulk from the pension board.

Before committing suicide, the man was always complaining of his Security Debartment Allowance (SDA) which was released by the Federal Government to the Defence Headquarters, which was in turn released to the military pension board,” a resident said.

"He said the pension was being released to them meagerly instead of in bulk monthly like their junior ones, resulting to abject poverty and abandonment by his family members."

Nigerians started committing suicide in increasing statistics since 2015 when buhari took over. In 2019, they had opportunity to remove tribal and religious sentiments and vote right, but were influenced by plate of porridge. They voted same evil, in 2023, they did same thing. Now, inflation is close to 700%, and with no jobs, no increments, even if its 1%. Dollar now is practically 1500,

Nobody is any coward.
If you try anything, you will be called IPOB and Igbo and that would be the end of the discussion.

Let us all suffer it.

Who should he blame?
FG
Benue state government
Local government
Senators
Rep members
Ministers
Commissioners

No one to blame. The system failed and the late soldier also failed. Many people don't plan their futures. They live for the present.

In a country where 80% of the youths still behave and act like toddlers. I used to think that maturity starts from age 18 but in Africa, even 30 yr and above persons don't know their right from left. Africa is cursed! If they ain't, why would anyone support a leader and when the leader isn't performing, all you do is cheer them up--- for doing absolutely nothing!

This comment is a total lie, and you know it.

We all know Buhari was a bad leader, but people were comitting suicide long before Bubu took over.

Here is a graph showing suicide rates from 2002-date.
