A banker who plays musical instruments in a bar in the evening will surely be paid for his side gig.

This is a wicked question. Pulpit bandits think it's only their stupid lies that bring people to their business centre. These instrumentalists bring more customers than their lies and expensive suits.
lols @ customers. I thought it was a church
Re: Should Church Instrumentalists And Singers Be Paid? by IyfeNamikaze(m): 10:20am On Feb 04
The very first instrumentalists and singers in the worship of God, the Levites, were getting paid for their services through tithes and sacrificial offerings by the isrealites. So yeah, they can be paid.
Re: Should Church Instrumentalists And Singers Be Paid? by durasome(m): 10:22am On Feb 04
They are all workers in the vineyard just like the pastor s working in their own different capacities.

If an instrumentalist or drummer or singer is a full-time staff of the church; and employee of the church; such a person must be paid. It is just like working in a bank. The church is his or her office, so such a person must be paid.

It is wrong to ask for payment when you are a member of a church and still get your source of livelihood elsewhere. You cannot be working in the bank, a company etc, and still tell your pastor to pay you because you are a drummer, instrumentalist, etc. Does it mean you cannot help God's house without being paid?
If church instrumentalist be paid then Sunday school teachers, ushers, sanctuary keepers,Ministers, choirs, technical department officers and every other people working in the house of God be paid .

I pray the lord gives us Wisdom.

It's a personal decision though. As for me and my family,we choose to serve in God's vineyard with our Gods given gift and talent free.

His grace has always be sufficient. Why not trying and serve in his vineyard (Church) free and see what your life would become.

If the church can afford it fine, if not it can be done for free.

It depends on the church management and financial power

But pastor can get paid whether church can afford it or not, right?

Yes. It's better to play else where cos many talents are wasting away in d church all in d name of working for God while d pastors smile to d bank.

No ... the Church is already providing a free platform for the singer/instrumentalist to express themselves.

Most music stars in Nigeria Wizkid, Flavour etc started from the Church
...but the instrumentalists paid money to go and learn how to play those instruments with their own money...the church did not assist them financially or send them to go and learn it

They should be paid... because the instrumentalists paid money to go and learn and train on her to play those instruments..the church did not assist them financially or send them to go and learn it

If they are not paid how will they pay their transport fare to the church, feed and take care of themselves...it's what they use to earn a living...you know they is lack.of jobs in nigeria... how do you expect them to survive with the rate of unemployment in nigeria
Re: Should Church Instrumentalists And Singers Be Paid? by Pat081: 10:47am On Feb 04
If they pay them church will still be the one to take it back in the name of 10% for the Lord's , church development, thanks giving that you see end of the month or church need this and that so what will be left will be low for your own need

Yes. Music is a profession and career.

If church administrator can be paid, why should people who studied so hard to become a professional musician/musicologist be denied.

Carpenters and electricians do get paid by churches for the service they render, what made musicians/instrumentalists an exception.
.. even the camera man in the church is paid

If you are an instrumentalist who has others sources of income and not a full time worker in the church.

I will advise such people not to expect money for playing musical instruments in the church, they also not pay tithe and offering. Their service can be referred to as tithe and offering

It takes a lot to acquire these skills. Its right to pay them for time, money to acquire this skill.

Should pastors be paid?
Re: Should Church Instrumentalists And Singers Be Paid? by DlegendofGarden(m): 12:33pm On Feb 04
No they shouldn't be paid. 90% of them are trying to discover their talent and it's a privilege for them to use the church as a stepping stone.
Re: Should Church Instrumentalists And Singers Be Paid? by Honestey: 12:35pm On Feb 04
This is a question of how they get to be church's singers/instrumentalists in the first place. If a member of the church congregation is good with songs or manipulation of musical instruments and he/she is called upon or offer to do it without monetary compensation then it's a free service for God's sake but if advert is placed within or outside the church premises for a professional singers with sweet voice and probably good looking enough to attract more people to the church or a professional instrumentalists are asked to apply for a vacant to perform drum beating and blaring of horns etc, then they deserve their payment. However, as a neutral, if any church is paying for such services that means the entire package fetches the church money and after taking away those payments the remaining should be subject to tax deduction.

Yes, and No!

Yes if the instrumentalist is playing for money, and he makes it clear that he relies on the payment to foot his bills.

No, if the instrumentalist determines in his heart that he wants to serve God with his gift.

The singers, instrumentalists and Levites were men designed to be set apart onto God. They lived in separation and consecration. So the church took care of their needs.
Yet at a point in church history, the church abandoned them!.

“And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.”
— Nehemiah 13:10 (KJV)

Neh.13.5 had converted a large storage room and placed it at Tobiah's disposal. The room had previously been used for storing the grain offerings, frankincense, Temple utensils, and tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the special portion set aside for the priests. Moses had decreed that these offerings belonged to the Levites, the singers, and the gatekeepers. (NLT)

Nehemiah 11 (KJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
²² The overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha. Of the sons of Asaph, the singers were over the business of the house of God.
²³ For it was the king's commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day.

The answer you seek is written in 1 Corin 9:13 and you can add verse 14 where Apostle waived his rights.
Remember the levitical priesthood consists of those priests who are into singing and use of instrumentals, incense burners and not only the high priest who enters the holy of holies.
The levitical priesthood system was not completely abolished but evolved to what we have as Ministers(Ministry).
Re: Should Church Instrumentalists And Singers Be Paid? by Bornboy4: 2:02pm On Feb 04
It is selfish of the Pastor for him to eat alone.
Don't they pay the people who they invite to dramatize receiving fake miracle in the church?
The instrumentalists should ask for salary monthly. Even the regular customers, sorry, members of the congregation should enjoy certain financial benefits because it is their tithes and offerings that the Pastor is using to enrich himself and his family.

Let the truth be told!
