Politics2019 Election: Falana Threatens To Drag PDP, Others To Court by 7Ebisco(op): 10:41am On Jun 17, 2018
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has threatened to drag the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and other parties to court over the sale of nomination form to aspirants in the 2019 election.

The senior lawyer insisted that previous court judgments have prohibited such payment.

His reaction followed PDP’s decision to sell nomination forms for N12 million to its presidential candidates for the 2019 election.

Falana blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for his inability to change the guideline despite expressing disappointment that he took a loan of N27m to buy the APC nomination form during the 2015 elections.

He told Punch: “The conditions for contesting elections from local government, to the House of Assembly, governorship, House of Representatives, Senate and presidential levels, are all in the constitution.

“There are decisions of the court to the effect that the Independent National Electoral Commission and state electoral commissions cannot collect fees from candidates who are contesting elections.

“So, if I am going to contest election, you can’t ask me to pay N27m as nomination fee because that is unknown to the constitution.

“Therefore, the parties cannot decide their own rules. They cannot impose prohibitive rules that will restrict the participation in the contest of an election to moneybags.

“Of course, we may have to sue the political parties if they continue this illegality. We cannot go on like this.

“Aggrieved party members should be encouraged to challenge the prohibitive nomination fees imposed on aspirants by political parties.

“I believe any citizen, who meets the requirements outlined in the Constitution, is qualified to contest any election. Political parties cannot add to the constitutional requirements.”

CrimeLagos Nurse Tortures 10 Yrs Old Housemaid With Hot Iron by 7Ebisco(op): 8:19am On Jun 16, 2018
The police in Lagos have arrested one Mrs. Yetunde Bello for allegedly torturing her 10-year-old housemaid, Paulina, with a hot iron.

It was learnt that Bello, who is a nurse, inflicted an injury on Paulina’s lap with the iron as punishment for damaging the knob of a tap on the premises of her residence located on Odutan Street, Araromi, in the Iyana Ipaja area of the state.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that Bello had been subjecting the girl to assaults since January 2018 when she was brought from Benue State, where her parents live.

The suspect reportedly relocated Paulina to Lagos with a promise that she would enrol her in a school, which she never did.

Our correspondent learnt that the abuse of the girl reached its height sometime in May 2018 when the little girl damaged the knob while she was fetching water for the woman, who had gone to work that day.

It was learnt that Bello met Paulina ironing clothes when she returned from work. Entreaties by neighbours that the girl should be forgiven for the offence fell on deaf ears as she allegedly snatched the iron from her and slammed it on her lap.

Bello reportedly left the girl in pains without providing treatment for the wound.

The girl was walking along the street one day when a resident sighted the injury and beckoned at her. Paulina was said to have confided her plight in the resident, who reported the assault to a human rights group, Esther Child Rights Foundation.

The resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Saturday PUNCH that the foundation subsequently reported the case at the Gowon Estate Police Station and the mother of two was arrested.

He said, “The woman has been abusing the girl for some months now. She did not allow her to go to school. She brought the girl from her village in Benue sometime in January 2018 and burdened her with a lot of domestic chores. She would beat her to correct any mistake she made.

“Recently, the woman instructed her to fetch water from the tap. Unfortunately, she damaged the knob of the tap in the process and was scared to tell her boss knowing that she would be seriously dealt with.

“When the woman returned from work, neighbours begged her to pardon the girl. On getting inside, she met the girl ironing clothes. She collected the iron from her and placed it on her lap.”

A source said 37-year-old Bello told the police that Paulina fell on the ground and sustained the injury, but the girl refuted the claim, insisting that her boss slammed the hot iron on her.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident, adding that the woman had been arraigned.

He said, “The suspect is a nurse. She has two kids and the victim, a 10-year-old girl lived with her.

“She was arrested for assaulting the girl and charged to Ogba Magistrate Court on May 28, 2018. The case was adjourned till July 4 for trial.”

PoliticsSoldiers Clash With Police In Aba, 3 Dead (read Details) by 7Ebisco(op): 10:20pm On Jun 15, 2018
Three persons were on Friday reported dead in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State as personnel of the Nigerian Army attached to the Ngwa High.

School Forward Operation Base (Charlie Coy) and personnel of Mobile Police Force (PMF 55) unit in Osisioma Local Government Area of the State.

While a yet to be confirmed report has it that a police officer’s hand was severed in the shootout, another report has it that two mobile policemen and a soldier died in the melee.

It could be recalled that in 2015, soldiers from Ngwa High School FOB and policemen of PMF 55 clashed at the same Osisioma junction, leaving a policeman who was hit by a bullet during crossfire that lasted for about thirty minutes dead.

While efforts to reach both police and army hierarchy in the state until the time of this report failed to yield fruits as the State Commissioner of Police and the spokesman of the Command, Michael Ogbizi and Geoffrey Ogbonna were yet to reply to a text message our correspondent sent to their phones.

Sources who claimed to have witnessed the incident feared that incident which caused pandemonium at the major exit and entrance route into the commercial nerve of the state also wounded many passersby.

According to one Chinyere Ikem, the incident forced many shop owners to quickly close for business while many petty traders along the Expressway abandoned their wares to scamper for safety as lorry load of mobile and regular policemen arrived the scene that is already charged with gunshots.

Ikem said that while some passengers going to different parts of the country that were yet to board vehicles to their locations were trapped in the shootout, others coming into the country, used alternative routes to avoid being caught in the web of the crisis.

“It happened like what we used to watch in American movies. It happened in a flash and before you know what is happening, trucks of army and police vans were everywhere.

Police and army were shooting themselves face-to-face. From what we later learnt, two policemen and a soldier died in the gun duel. It is better seeing that being told. I don’t know what is happening at this Osisioma junction. Don’t forget that some time ago, police and army clashed here and shoot at each other leaving one policemen dead.

“I saw some people running with blood stain and I guess that they were hit be stray bullets. Police and army leadership in the state should call themselves to order.

They are sister agencies and I don’t think that it is in their own interest to be fighting among themselves when they are supposed to be working hand in hand with each other especially as the state Governor is doing his best in tackling insecurity in the state,” Ikem stated.

While normalcy has since returned to the area at the time our reporter visited the scene, shop owners were yet to open for business as people in clusters recount their experience of the incident.

However in a swift reaction, Abia State Government in a press release through the commissioner of information in the state, Chief John Okiyi said that the state received with sadness “disturbing reports of an unfortunate confrontation between a group of soldiers and police officers at the Osisioma area of Aba earlier today (Friday June 15).”

Okiyi who said that the state government was working with heads of security to bring the situation under control also assured that investigation was ongoing to know the cause of the incident and to fish out those behind the incident.

“We are working with the heads of the concerned security agencies in the state to ensure that the situation, which has been brought under control, does not repeat itself or escalate within the state.

“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has also directed full investigation of the circumstances that led to the breach of public peace with a view to preventing future occurrence of such armed confrontation that endanger the lives of innocent citizens and security agents working in the state.

“While we are currently working with law enforcement agencies to review the immediate and remote cause of the incidence, members of the public are advised to go about their normal duties as the situation around the area has been pacified.

“Those responsible for this breach of public peace will certainly be unraveled and punished according the law,” Okiyi added.

CrimeSharp Guy: Unemployed Man Accused Of Touching Woman’s Breast by 7Ebisco(op): 4:03pm On Jun 15, 2018
A 25-year-old unemployed man has been accused of assaulting a woman, Faith Ijiogbe, by repeatedly touching her breasts.

We learned that Kabiru Saka, who resides in the Alagbado area of Lagos State on June 11, begged Ijiogbe to give him a carton of canned drink which accidentally fell off a motorcycle when she was conveying them to her shop.

Saka was said to have run to meet Ijiogbe demanding the carton that fell, saying he wanted to use it as a sacrifice to the gods.

The 25-year-old allegedly touched Ijiogbe’s breast and hit her husband with a weapon when she handed the carton of canned drink to her husband.

According to the Police prosecutor, Dada Wasiu, the complainant’s phone valued at N35,000 was stolen in the process.

PoliticsAPC Not For Everyone – El-rufai by 7Ebisco(op): 7:47am On Jun 15, 2018
Governor of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai on Thursday said the All Progressives Congress, APC, is not for everyone.

El-Rufai stated this in his remarks during the formal inauguration ceremony of newly elected Executive Committee members of the party, held at APC Secretariat, Kaduna.

He noted that some members joined the party to worship their egos.

He, however reiterated that APC was founded to bring change and would not be derailed from its mission by such members.

He said “not everybody, who joined our party shared this noble objective. Some were just going with the wind, taking their old, objectionable habits, into a party built on new ethos.

“Some wayfarers, who see every political party only as a platform for elective or appointive office, or the perpetual worship of their egos, found their way into the party and even got elected.

“Then they abused trust by tradaucing the party that elected them. While we were all working to strengthen the party, some of these people violated party spirit by seeking to factionalise our party and creating the impression in the media of an irreconcilably divided party.

“Through the steadfast action of our members, the Kaduna APC easily defeated this plot of the selfish, disaffected politicians whose sense of personal entitlement is subversive of the public good.

‘These individuals have now been told clearly by our members that the APC does not abide indiscipline, opportunism or the irresponsible placement of personal interest above the collective.

“Our members can be proud that we have stood united in the Kaduna APC, in unity, we must continue to work hard to fulfil the hopes that our people have invested in our party.

“We cannot rest on our oars. The new executive has to further energise the party, reinforce its strength and presence at the grassroots. Big challenges lie ahead. We will soon begin primaries to select our candidates for the 2019 elections.”

Politics2019: Presidential Candidates Should Declare Health Status, Accept Debate – Fest by 7Ebisco(op): 10:30am On Jun 14, 2018
Festus Keyamo, President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election campaign spokesman has called on the 2019 Presidential candidates to declare their health status.

Keyamo said he was in support of the call for candidates to declare their health status in order for Nigerians to know if they were fit or not for 2019.

He, however, said Buhari was fit to go in 2019 despite health concerns.

Cable quoted him as saying, “I agree that candidates should declare their health status. But if somebody is sick and is well and now discloses that he is well now, fine. He (Buhari) is ready to go; he is fit to go.

“Abacha was not sick at all, no history; yet he slumped and died.

“I also support the call for presidential debates.”

Keyamo also made boast that Buhari would be re-elected in 2019, saying the president will instil a different political culture in the country before he retires.

“He (Buhari) needs time to instil that culture different from what we have learnt government is all about,.

“Let’s be honest, most young people of our generation grew up to know only the PDP system, which is and was only about money.

“Buhari did not need federal funds to clinch his re-election, his supporters would be happy to sell their possessions for his re-election,” he said.

Politics“I Killed My Friend, Took His Heart For Money-making Ritual” – Man Confesses. by 7Ebisco(op): 7:11pm On Jun 11, 2018
“I did not feel anything killing him, human being is the same thing as animals,” a man from Borno state has said as he confesses to killing his friend for the purpose of taking his heart for money making rituals.

The Lagos State police command has apprehended four persons for the murder of their friend, Isaiah James.

Following interrogation at the homicide section of the State Criminal and Intelligence Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, one of the suspects, simply identified as Daniel, confessed to the crime.

He said:

We are from Chibok in Maiduguri, Borno State. We are four that killed our friend, Isaiah James, for ritual purposes, though it was not our initial plan to do so. We wanted to do charms to excel in advance fee fraud, known as 419, but the native doctor who we consulted told us that he won’t do charms for us with regards 419.

We asked why and he told us that we are not educated. He told us that we should be literate before we can do 419 successfully. We asked if there was another alternative and he said he would perform a ritual out of sympathy for us. He told us to provide a human heart. That was the beginning of our problems.

When the herbalist told us to bring a human heart, we told him to help us organise it. He promised to do so and charged us N100,000. We paid him N60,000 and promised to balance the N40,000. Few days later, the native doctor called us to say that one of his boys who he sent on the mission for the human heart hunting was shot in the hand by vigilance group members. He said he won’t be able to provide us with the heart and asked us to provide it ourselves.

According to Daniel, they became confused on their next plan of action until the gang leader identified as Audu, suggested that he would lure his cousin, who is also a friend of Daniel’s, to the place where they would kill him and pluck out his heart for the ritual, Guardian reports.

Daniel continued:

We called him on phone and told him to meet us at a drinking joint in Ajah, Lagos. He agreed to meet us. He did not suspect foul play and was comfortable with us. We met at night and we started drinking local gin until the wee hours.

We bought him fried yam. At about 1:00a.m. we said we should go home. As we were walking home, Audu who was armed with a knife, said he was going to urinate. So all of us including our target joined Audu to a corner to urinate. It was at that corner that we all rushed at him, pulled him down and hit him with hard objects and Audu stabbed him.

When we noticed that he was dying, Ayuba butchered him, searched inside, but he could not find the heart. I collected the knife from him and put my hand inside, I found the heart. His heart was still alive and pumping blood, I pulled it out with the help of the knife.

We took it to the native doctor at Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. He used it to prepare beans for us. He promised that after eating the beans porridge, we would start making big money. He said that anything we laid our hands must prosper. He requested for the N40,000 balance which we paid him. We had just finished the meal when the police came to pick me.

A lady who saw us the night we killed Isaiah, told his people that she saw us in company of Isaiah. We are all from Chibok in Maiduguri. When the police came to me, I confessed. I did not feel anything killing him, human being is the same thing as animals. My regret is that we did not succeed in making the money and that the native doctor escaped arrest.

PoliticsWike- FG Plans To Frame Me Again Ahead Of Polls by 7Ebisco(op): 10:25am On Jun 11, 2018
Rivers State governor, Mr Nyesom Wike, has alerted Nigerians that All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government had allegedly contacted a Lebanese who has been directed to claim that he received money from him (Rivers State governor) to procure arms for the 2019 elections.

Also, Governor Wike alerted Nigerians on the alleged arrest of the orderly to Rivers State Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS, Commander, Akin Fakorede and another SARs operative for armed robbery and kidnapping.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service in honour of the Chairman of Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini, yesterday, at the St Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu, Governor Wike alleged that the APC Federal Government had entered a devious mode where it believes that framing opponents will enhance its political fortunes.

He noted that initially, Nigerians thought he was playing politics until former President Olusegun Obasanjo revealed details of how the desperate APC Federal Government plans to frame him up. “The Federal Government has arranged with a Lebanese to say that I told him to buy arms for the purpose of the forthcoming elections. I am not close to any Lebanese, let alone give money to anyone to buy arms for elections.

We have dutifully served our people and we don’t need to purchase arms for elections. “If elections are held 20, 000 times, we will win because our projects have positively impacted the lives of our people,” he said.

He said that the Federal Government was also planning to sponsor crisis in Rivers State ahead of the 2019 elections, for the state’s election to be postponed. He said the target was to use security agencies for rigging purposes. “They plan to cause so much crisis in the state so that Rivers election is held on a separate date.

Their plot will fail. Rivers election will hold same day with that of other states,” he added. Speaking further, Governor Wike said most of the kidnappings and armed robberries in Rivers State were masterminded by SARS operatives. He said that the arrest of the SARS operatives prove their involvement in crimes against the people of Rivers State.

PoliticsChildren Deserve Proper Care, Says Enugu Gov’s Wife by 7Ebisco(op): 6:59am On Jun 10, 2018
The wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, has appealed to parents and guardians to intensify efforts in taking proper care of their children/wards as future leaders and precious gift from God.

Mrs. Ugwuanyi added that “the children deserve to be treated right”, look “healthy, neat and cheerful” and have access to basic education in spite of the nation’s economic challenges.

The Enugu Governor’s wife made the remarks at Itchi in Igbo-eze South Local Government Area during the free medical outreach programme of her pet project, Ugo-Touch of Life (U-TOLF), which focuses on the wellbeing of under-privileged women, children and youths in the rural areas.
She reiterated her commitment to rapid development in the rural areas, where the greater number of women, children and youths reside.
Mrs. Ugwuanyi advised the people against self-medication and urged them to always go for proper medical checkup whenever they notice any symptom of illness, saying: “This is a wake-up call”.
She emphasised the need for consumption of organic food for healthy living, stressing that we need to go back to our natural ways of feeding.

Similarly, the Governor’s wife during the free medical outreach at Igbo Etiti Local Government Area, maintained that her interest in the programme was to assist indigent people to access medical treatment bearing in mind the high cost of healthcare services in the country.
She added that her empowerment programme was designed to make people self-reliant to ameliorate their suffering, disclosing that the first round of the free medical exercise has been successfully carried out in the 17 local government areas of the state.
“We have covered all the local government areas of the state with our free medical exercise since May this year. This is the second round and within the period of this assignment, we have discovered that most of the ailments afflicting our people are caused by poor eating habit.

“Our people prefer canned food bought at supermarkets instead of our local delicacies. That is why we invite experts that educate us on balanced diet. These fruits and vegetable are with us, and our empowerment scheme is based on what is obtainable within the locality. So, our people should try and avail themselves of every opportunity”, she stated.

PoliticsObasanjo’s Letter: Lai Mohammed Disobeyed Me By Replying – Buhari by 7Ebisco(op): 3:44pm On Jun 09, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, disobeyed him by replying the letter by former President Olusegun Obasanjo against the administration.

This is even as he said that he had stopped his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina from replying the letter because of Adesina’s age.

The president explained the reasons when members of Buhari Support Organisation visited him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday night.

Buhari explained further that the second reason why he deemed right not to reply the letter was that he and the former president were from the same (military) constituency.

He, however, noted that Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, who “disobeyed’’ him not to reply the letter, did a good job.

He observed that the reply by the minister showed Nigerians the realities on ground when the present administration assumed office in 2015 and its ongoing efforts to revive the inherited damaged economy.

“I really appreciate how you choose this time during Ramadan to come from across the country to see and congratulate me for what we were able to do.

“We were constraint to explain our position when the former head of state wrote a letter; Adesina was agitated and wanted to immediately reply; I stopped him for two reasons; first, he was much younger than me and Gen. Obasanjo.

“Secondly, I am from the same constituent with Gen. Obasanjo; so, I wouldn’t know how it will affect him if I allow him to go wild or to go public, but when Lai Mohammed came, I said he shouldn’t and he insisted. He disobeyed me.

“He said I must allow him to talk; then, of course, being a professionally information person, I listened to him and asked him what are going to say.

“He said he was going to remind Nigerians where we found ourselves when we came in as a government, where we are now, what we have done in between with the resources available to us.

“And I understand he did a good job because a number of people rang me and said Lai Mohammed has done a good job because I went public in several times.

“I said it is on record and I challenged anybody to check from Europe, United States and Asia that between 1999 and 2014 the 16 years of previous administration there was an average of 2.1 million per day of crude oil at the average cost of 100 dollars per barrel,’’ he said.

The president said that he deliberately refused to replace the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria when his administration took over the mantle of leadership of the country because he wanted to give him the opportunity to salvage the economy from its terrible condition.

Buhari, who thanked his teachers during his primary school days for their efforts to inculcate good morale to him and his mates, stated that his administration would continue to invest heavily in education to correct social ills in the society.

He said further that his administration had resolved to put money in the area of infrastructural development to address infrastructural deficits and subsequently ensure speedy socio-economic transformation of the country.

“It is now that we are struggling to put the structure on the ground — the roads — to revive the rail and do the standard gauge and try to spend objectively on power.

“If we put money in infrastructure, it will create employment opportunities and then Nigerians will mind their own businesses, they wouldn’t even mind what the government is doing once the infrastructure is there,’’ he said.

The president, therefore, reassured Nigerians that his administration would continue to spend more funds to upgrade the nation’s infrastructure.

He said that the government had also expended more than N1.3 trillion on capital projects across the country.

According to him, the government will continue to ensure financial discipline, accountability and effective supervision of its spending to have solid infrastructure to enable the youth to achieve their missions and objectives in life.

He thanked the members of the organisation for their support and sacrifices, noting that none of them had ever made any specific demand from him.

In his remarks, the leader of the organisation, Sen. Abba Ali, who narrated the achievements of the Buhari administration in the last three years, said they were on solidarity visit to the president to further reassure him of their support.

He said that the organisation had established offices in all the 36 states and 774 local government areas of the country, while efforts were being made to ensure the re-election of the president in 2019.

Mrs Paulina Tallen, a member of the Board of Trustees of the organisation, who spoke at the event, assured the president that women would massively vote for him and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 general elections.

She, nonetheless, called on the president to bring more qualified women politicians and professionals in government to address the perceived marginalisation of women by APC-led administration in the country.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is in a fix after the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the freezing of its accounts over a N34bn contract, thereby threatening the upcoming elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

The Court also ordered the deduction of over N17 billion from the accounts of the electoral body in favour of Beddings Holdings Ltd (BHL).

Justice John Tsoho granted a Garnishee Order Nisi on the accounts of INEC in First Bank PLC and UBA PLC with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the sum of N17.2bn.

DAILY POST reports that a garnishee proceeding, is a judicial process of execution or enforcement of monetary judgment whereby money belonging to a judgment debtor, in the hands or possession of a third party known as the ‘Garnishee’ (usually a bank), is attached or seized by a judgment creditor.

According to the court documents, Beddings Holdings Ltd.’s ex parte application, in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/492/2018, was awarded the garnishee on an earlier judgement by former Chief Judge of the court, Justice Ibrahim Auta.

Justice Auta’s judgement delivered on January 28, 2014 was in respect of a contract for supply of Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines, Electronic Collapsible Transparent Ballot Boxes (ECTBB) and Proof Address System/Scheme (PASS) worth N34.5 billion for the 2010 voters’ registration.

Bedding Holdings had approached the court challenging INEC’s decision to give the contract to three companies – Zinox Technologies, Avante International and Haier Electrical Appliances, saying the decision had violated its patent right.
Joined in the suit with number FHC/ABJ/CS/816/2010 were INEC, the Attorney General of the Federation and the three companies that secured the contract.

The company urged the court to compel INEC to pay it half of the total contract sum amounting N17.2 billion as compensation for infringing on its valid and subsisting patent right.

The court agreed that with the total evidence provided by the parties in the case BHL owned a subsisting patent right over the process, application and the use of the DCC machines.

The court, therefore, ordered the then INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to pay the compensation to the patent holder.

But INEC filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal in Abuja in 2014, challenging the judgement of the Federal High Court which awarded the compensation.

INEC is insisting at the Appeal Court with appeal number: CA/132A/2014 that BHL is not the sole patent owner of the election equipment.

It is also challenging the way and manner BHL rushed and secured the patent right from the Federal Ministry of Commerce within two weeks, even though the process takes months to accomplish.
The case is still pending at the Appeal Court when the ex parte order for the Garnishee Order Nisi was granted last month.

He made this announcement via a video on his IG page, as he revealed that he would be doing so under APGA.

Kanayo also wrote;

”Hello Friends, good evening. History has been made today as I declared my intention to run for the House of Representatives, Ahiazu/ Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency, Imo State under the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA. I owe you this information as I enlist your prayers and support. #OverAndOut”.

Nigerians have since reacted to the sudden drift from movie acting to politics. While some assured him of their support, the majority found it funny as they dropped their numerous hillarious comments.

The reason for their funny reactions is not far fetched as it is in connection with the roles he plays on the movie set, apparently, some people cannot fathom him acting the same “money ritual/ wicked uncle scenes in the game of politics

FamilyMy Husband Planted `magun’ On Me – Woman Tells Court by 7Ebisco(op): 9:23pm On Jun 06, 2018
Rashidat Adesokan, a mother of six, on Wednesday asked a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve her 28- year-old marriage to her husband, Mustafa, for allegedly “lacing her with “magun’’ charm.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that magun is believed to be a potent charm among the Yoruba deployed to cause harm or even death to promiscuous couples.

Rashidat, in her petition to the court, said her husband had ruined her life as a result of the charm.

“My lord, ever since we moved to our newly completed building, Mustafa has been a pain on my neck by denying me adequate care and love.

“He makes no provision for the children. I have been solely responsible for the upkeep of the children.

“Worst of all, Mustafa had on four different occasions laced me with magun such that blood has been discharging from my genitals.

“He has exposed me to all sorts of humiliation in the neighbourhood inspite of my plea for forgiveness over alleged adultery.

“He told everyone in the neighbourhood that I am unfaithful and a prostitute.

“Mustafa categorically told me to leave his home or be ready to die in shame.

“He also ejected all the children I had for him, referring to them as products of bad motherhood.

“In fact, Mustafa had previously gone to a certain private radio station in Ibadan where he exposed me to ridicule and embarrassment.

“Even before the children, he is such a worthless soul.

“The person my husband accused me of having an affair with is a neighbour who often paid us visits.

“It is true that I usually offer the neighbour food and he sometimes offers me ride on his motorcycle.

“Mustafa, however, had stopped having sexual intercourse with me before I left his home, claiming I would harm him.

“Unknown to me, the blood discharge I was experiencing was the side effect of the magun which he had placed on me so that any man who sleeps with me will die,” Rashidat said.

However, the respondent who did not deny most of the allegations levelled against him, submitted that his wife was adulterous.

Mustafa said that though he was initially opposed to divorce, he was changing his mind after the plaintiff had insisted on separation.

“If she is not willing to swallow her pride, Rashidat can go.

“My lord, I was initially trying to keep our union because of our six children.

“I had all along demonstrated my care and love for her and the children by constantly going into the bush to fetch firewood for cooking,’’ he said.

Chief Ademola Odunade, the President of the court, ordered the duo to produce their six children in court and adjourned the case till July 18 for judgment.

Politics"Buhari Not A Man" – Ahmad Lawan by 7Ebisco(op): 10:44am On Jun 05, 2018
The Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan says President Muhammadu Buhari is not a man, but a phenomenon.

Sen. Lawan, while hosting members of the North East Youth Coalition for President Buhari (NEYCPB) in his office, said Buhari is a phenomenon because his persona is now a movement and not a single personality.

He stated that Buhari didn’t come into government for personal enrichment, thereby urging Nigerians to join him to help solve problems facing Nigeria.

Lawan said, “Buhari is a phenomenon; it’s a movement. What I mean here, let me not be misquoted. When I said Buhari is not a man, Buhari is an attitude to life, what is that attitude? Integrity and commitment.

“He came into politics not to make money. It is our duty as citizens not to allow the president to do it alone. No matter how you are, how equipped you are, when it comes to leadership and administration, especially of a country that is as complex Nigeria, you need every hand to be on deck.

“That is what we are trying to do; that is what the coalition is seeking to do. When the president came in 2015, the first actions he took were necessary to rescue and secure the North East.

“The North East has been rescued. Insurgency, once it starts, it doesn’t stop like when rain starts and stops.

“You will always find from time to time some signs that they are still there. But the signs have been reduced to suicide bombing of soft targets, not declaring a caliphate with headquarters in Bama or anywhere else. We really owe gratitude to our president,” he said.

Politics2019: Why Youths Should Forget Running For Presidency – RTEAN by 7Ebisco(op): 6:14pm On Jun 03, 2018
The Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has urged Nigerian youths not to be in a rush to run for presidential race.

Alhaji Musa Isiwele, National President of RTEAN, gave the charge on Sunday in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

He said the call followed Buhari’s fulfilment of his promise by signing the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill into law.

He said that the signing into law of the bill could be described as a Democracy Day gift to Nigerians.

Isiwele said: “It is a plus to President Buhari. And the youths too should also appreciate Mr President and give him their backing; that if you can do this for us, we will vote for you in 2019.

“Somebody has summoned courage and give you a gift. If Mr President did not sign the bill nothing will happen and the bill will not sign itself.

“I will advise them not to form a party because they have less than one year. They may not get it right. But if they will take my advice, let them support the people in government now.

“So let the youths organise themselves, use the next four years to campaign, create awareness and have a credible leader so that when this government is going, the struggle will be reduced.”

“Of course, we are on 19 years of uninterrupted democracy now. So this is the first time since 1999 we are witnessing such a feat. It is like another birth of a child which happened during the Democracy Day celebration.

“It is long overdue. We are now in computer age and a lot of people in the older generation are not IT-compliant,” he said.

He said that the new law would also prevent the youths from being used as political thugs.

“Most of the crimes being committed, 50-year old and above are not often involved. It is purely the youths.

“And now they have been given the opportunity to function, they should do it well and let there be peace in Nigeria,” he said.

He maintained that since the young people constituted the largest population in the country, ‘’they should be given a chance because if they don’t learn, they cannot be perfect.”

“It is duty-bound on them to unite and ensure that they get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC).

“This is because if they come together to vote massively for a candidate, it is most likely such candidate would win election.

“Nigerians are fond of making noise without action. Let the youths go and register to get their PVC.

“It was said that out of 180 million Nigerians, only about 14 million voted in the election that brought President Buhari into power.

“The rest of the people were at home and after the election, they will be making noise,” he said.

HealthFederal Government Begins Screening Of Ebola Virus At Lagos Airport by 7Ebisco(op): 8:48pm On May 31, 2018
The federal government has intensified efforts to ensure that Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is not retransmitted into the country and therefore has activated all procedures to prevent infected travellers from gaining access to any of the nation’s airports.

To ensure that this objective is achieved, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Port Health, a department under the Ministry of Health have increased surveillance on the screening of passengers for the deadly communicable disease.

Officials of FAAN at the airport explained that all passengers coming in from West Africa and other countries around the world are constantly screened by the thermal screening machines deployed to the D and E wings of arrivals at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos even without the knowledge of the passengers.

The Airport Regional Manager, South-west, Mrs. Victoria Shin-Aba in an interview with aviation journalists wednesday said that apart from the thermal screening machines, the agency also had public health emergency programme put in place for that purpose by the management.

She insisted that the facility was equipped and was up to the recommended standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and World Health Organisation (WHO).

Shin-Aba, however, disclosed that rather than the infrared method, which was a physical screening procedure used in the past, the government had moved up to adopt the thermal screening method, which automatically has erased the physical screening exercise and thereby reducing contacts with passengers.

PoliticsHerdsmen Killings: Benue Fires Back At Sultan Over Jihad Statement by 7Ebisco(op): 11:19pm On May 30, 2018
Benue State Government has reacted to the recent comment by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll-led Jama’atu Nasril that the herdsmen killings across Benue, Taraba and other parts of the North, were not continuation of the late Usman Danfodio’s jihad.

The Sultan, who doubles as President General of the JNI with its headquarters in Kaduna, warned against taking Nigerian Muslims for granted by denigrating the Islamic community.

Reacting, however, the state government in a statement by Tever Akase, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, insisted that JNI should rather blame Miyetti Allah over the alleged Jihad statement.

His statement below:

Another instance where the same group declared jihad on the country can be obtained in the following link: .

Governor Ortom who referred to such statements including the ones quoted above from the Fulani Nationality Movement, reiterated his call for the arrest of the leadership of the groups to prevent further killings in the state.

Governor Ortom used the programme to draw the attention of security agencies to the inflammatory statements made by the said groups vowing to wage a jihad and mobilize their members to invade Benue and resist implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law passed by the state.

The Benue State Governor has enormous respect for the leadership of Jama’atul Nasir Islam and all other Nigerian Muslims and would not have launched an attack on the religion. We reject and condemn this negative branding of the Governor by JNI.

Since assumption of office, Governor Ortom has embraced and encouraged all religious groups in the state especially the Muslim community as evident in the cordial relationship between the present administration and leadership of the Islamic faith. It is therefore strange that the headquarters of Jama’atul Nasir Islam has chosen to assault the Governor’s reputation on a matter which has verifiable evidence unconnected with him.

Governor Ortom has demonstrated statesmanship and focus in handling the secuirty challenge in the state and he appreciates the contributions of all stakeholders particularly religious leaders both Christian and Muslim towards the return of peace to the affected parts of Benue State.

Crime10 Killed, 2 Pregnant Women Shot In Anambra Cult Attack by 7Ebisco(op): 3:07pm On May 28, 2018
It was bloodbath at the weekend in Obosi,Idemili North local Government Area of Anambra state when two prominent cult groups in the area, Baga and Aiye confraternities clashed, leaving ten of both members killed, two pregnant women shot, and scores of persons allegedly robbed.

While the police officer in charge of Obosi Police Division, Mr,Usham Ibrahim confirmed to DAILY POST that thirty two suspects were arrested, he added that “Only four persons were killed, and two pregnant women shot but did not die. The police brought the situation to normal, those arrested are currently being detained for further investigation ”

It was gathered that trouble started in the area when a bereaved family of a suspected cultist, identified as Friday Roll concluded plans for a funeral ceremony for her son who was allegedly killed by a rival Cult group, a process the Baga cult group allegedly vowed to stop.

Sources said having made the vow, the Baga cult group allegedly embarked on shooting spree in Ukpor community where they killed Aiye member and three others the same way.

”On the burial day, as the funeral ceremony was about to start, members of the Baga cult group made straight to where the corpse of its member was lying in state in the family compound in Obosi, and removed the corpse to where the Baga members were performing their own funeral rites in honour of their killed member: a development which the family saw as a slight but was handicapped to react to because of the weapons they carried.

The cultists were said to have gone berserk as they suddenly started shooting and robbing people, including blocking the roads, and ordered that nobody should touch the Corpse until they were done with it.

A police team that came to stop the mayhem, was said to have retreated on sighting the intimidating members of the cult group, but the state chairman of the Progressive Peoples Party, PPA, Chief Dan Igbokwubili told DAILY POST that, “More than ten cultists were shot dead when the two rival groups clashed in a burial ceremony in Obosi.”

PoliticsHow Govs Were Illegally Removed Under Obasanjo – Presidency by 7Ebisco(op): 8:09pm On May 27, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, on Sunday took a swipe at the ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo

Shehu recalled some incidents that occurred under his tenure, with particular mention of how some governors were forced out of office.

In a part of an essay he entitled: ‘The real price of “change the change” campaign’, he wrote: “When they ran the government at the centre, the opposition PDP showed aptitude in only one thing: the toppling of elected state governments using the police and secret service under their control.

“A five-man legislature met at 6:00 am and “impeached” Governor Dariye in Plateau; 18 members out of 32 removed Governor Ladoja of Oyo from office.

“In Anambra, APGA’s Governor Obi was equally impeached at 5:00 a.m. by members who did not meet the two-thirds required by the constitution.

“His offence was that he refused to inflate the state’s budget. The lawmakers had reportedly met with representatives of the President in Asaba, Delta State and then accompanied to Awka by heavy security provided by the police Mobile Unit. The PDP President at that time had reportedly told Obi to forget re-election in 2007 if he did not join the PDP because he (the President) would not support a non-PDP member.

“In Ekiti, Governor Fayose in his first term faced allegations of financial corruption and murder. Following the failure to heed the instruction of the presidency to impeach only Fayose and spare the deputy, Madam Olujimi, now a senator, the PDP President declared that there was a breakdown of law and order in the state and declared a state of emergency. He appointed Brig-Gen. Adetunji Olurin (rtd) as the sole administrator of the state on October 19, 2006.

“In an earlier incident in Anambra, it took an insider collaboration to thwart the unseating of Governor Ngige by a powerful thug sponsored by the PDP administration.

“The parliament at the centre seized the law-making powers of the Rivers State House of Assembly as a way to save Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the then chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum from impeachment by the PDP presidency.

“Thank God for Buhari, none of these absurdities has happened under his watch but the PDP is indicating their boredom with his meticulous observance of the constitution by calling for a return to the old order.

“If not for “dry eyes,” as said in our common parlance, what is it that would push this party to write a letter to the United Nations, laying false claims to constitutionality and alleging that democracy is presently under threat?

“But then, we all understand that by its tone, this is an angry opposition unhappy about the loss of privileges they desperately want to hang on to, privileges now abolished by the prudent, austere Buhari Administration.

“The former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, shocked the world by the revelation in her new book, titled, Fighting Corruption is Dangerous: The Story Behind the Headlines, that they paid N17 billion bribe to the National Assembly to get them pass the 2015 budget.”

PoliticsPolice Recruitment: JAMB Boss Speaks On Exam Conduct, Shortlisting by 7Ebisco(op): 7:50pm On May 26, 2018
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has restated its commitment to operate a transparent system in conducting examinations in the country.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede stated this at the sideline of the 2018 Nigerian Police recruitment examinations, conducted at the JAMB Computer Based Test (CBT) centre at Bwari in the FCT.

“We have so many people, who believe in us; agencies who patronise us, particularly, those who want to do things transparently.

“If you want to set rules and want it to be enforced transparently, JAMB will give you the services at a cost you cannot get anywhere because we use an already established facility for that.

“We ensure a set standard. We have conducted exams for about 16 agencies this year and may begin another one in some few weeks,’’ he said.

On the police recruitment, the registrar said over 37, 000 candidates were assessed at 156 CBT centres nationwide.

He said the candidates, who wrote the examinations at no cost to the board would not have a cut-off mark for assessment, adding that the type of questions they answer was at the discretion of the board.
The possibility of being shortlisted, he explained would be determined by number of vacancies available in the police, as well as the performance of the candidates.

A lady simply identified as Zippy @_mama_thea on the platform has had no choice but to call off her wedding just 5 months to the D-day.

She was left with this choice after her fiancee physically assaulted her by ‘beating her like a dog’ which made her spend some weeks in the hospital.

Adding salt to her injury, the family of her fiance tried to force her to hide, since they have already sent out invitations and all but Zippy isn’t ready to walk into an abusive marriage.
