The police have confirmed the deployment of personnel to the Ekiti State House of Assembly to pre-empt an impending crisis. Police Command on Thursday said it deployed its personnel to the House to prevent a breach of public peace. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Caleb Ikechukwu, told newsmen in Ado Ekiti that the deployment was based on information the command received. He insisted that the command was only being proactive in the course of maintaining law and order. “Anytime you see the deployment of policemen, it is to ensure the safety and the security of that place and the people there. ” There is no need for people to be curious about the deployment of security men in the quest to ensure the security of life and property, except for those who have some form of crime to hide “Anytime you see us doing deployment, it is for a reason; it is to ensure the safety of that place at a given time ” That means there must be information which we are working on, and what that shows is how proactive the Nigeria Police Force of today is,’’ he said. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was a heavy security presence at the assembly complex on Thursday morning, fueling speculations of renewed crisis among the lawmakers who are currently on recess. https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Akinade-Ogunbiyi.jpg An aspirant in the just-concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Osun, Akin Ogunbiyi, has called on the party’s leadership to declare him winner. Ogunbiyi told newsmen on Monday in Abuja that he was at the party’s National Secretariat to petition the leadership over the primary that produced Sen. Ademola Adeleke as the flag-bearer for the September 22 poll. Ogunbiyi narrowly lost to Adeleke, polling 1,562 votes as against 1,569 votes by the latter. In his reaction, Adeleke urged other contenders to work with him. The lawmaker urged all aggrieved aspirants to join hands with him to reclaim the state from the All Progressives Congress (APC). He particularly urged Ogunbiyi to “come on board,”, and congratulated him for “his hard-fighting team and for running a good and impressive campaign’’. But in a petition addressed to the Chairman, Gubernatorial Electoral Appeal Panel of the PDP, the aspirant said that 42 voided votes and 128 unaccounted votes were for him. He added that the total votes he garnered at the poll were 1,732. “I, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, having polled the highest number of votes in the primary election of July 21, be declared the validly nominated and elected PDP governorship candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun.” He also called for the disqualification of Adeleke based on the faulted process of the primary. “Contrary to Section 30, Sub-Section `E’ of the Electoral Guidelines for primary election 2018, the total number of delegates accredited was not announced before the commencement of voting.” Ogunbiyi alleged that document submitted by Adeleke as evidence of his educational qualification up to school certificate level did not meet the basic qualification stipulated by the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act. “The Principal of Muslim Grammar School, Ede, Mr Khalid Abbas, who purportedly signed the testimonial had not been posted to the school in question as at the date indicated on the document. “The principal has denied ever issuing or signing it and the denial is very well on record.” PLEASE READ MORE>>>http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/osun-ogunbiyi-files-petition-against.html |
https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/liz-anjorin.jpg Popular actress, Liz Anjorin has lamented the imminent collapse of Nigeria’s movie industry, Nollywood. According to the actress, who converted from Christianity to Islam few years ago, the activities of pirates coupled with the lack of investment in the sector might soon lead to its collapse. Anjorin also disclosed that the fear of being stranded should that happen, pushed her into creating other sources of income to survive. She further debunked rumours of being financed by a Sugar Daddy, stating that all her wealth came from hard work and creativity. The actress told Punch newspaper: “I decided to put in more hard work and create multiple streams of income after realising that the movie industry will soon collapse. ‘‘Nobody wants to go broke and it is that fear that brought out the creativity in me and pushed me into business. “Piracy is affecting the industry so much while the lack of proper investment is also another issue threatening the sector. “While other people go from one party to another to enjoy themselves, I am busy at work, thinking of how to make a success of my life. “I work very hard to earn my money. I go through a lot of stress every day but people just think that I just sleep and all these things come to me on a silver platter. “The talk of having a sugar daddy is annoying because there is nothing like that. The truth is that God is the only sugar daddy I have. “Some people will just sit down and say I get support from some politicians but in Nigeria of today; nobody will constantly give you money except you work with your two hands. But some individuals will just sit somewhere and concoct all sorts of lies about me.” PLEASE READ MORE>>>http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/nollywood-will-soon-collapse-popular.html |

But some individuals will just sit somewhere and concoct all sorts of lies about me.” On her faceoff with Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Liz Anjorin said that it was nothing personal, adding that she only tried to let her colleague know that people were free to express themselves the way they wanted. “I made my point and I used it as a signal to others that they should leave my job for me. The most painful thing you can say to a very hard working person is to look for their trouble. An average hustler is aggressive in nature. A real hustler doesn’t eat, I hardly eat. Nigeria Police has said arrangements have been concluded to declare Senator Dino Melaye wanted. Senator Melaye had accused the police of shooting at his convoy on his way to inaugurate a project in his constituency on Thursday in Kogi State. Reacting on Friday, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ali Janga, noted that the police opened fire in defence of a purported shooting by some individuals in the lawmaker’s convoy. The police boss stated this on Friday while addressing newsmen in his office. “Unidentified civilians inside (a vehicle in the convoy) decided to open fire on my policemen. You don’t expect the police to fold their arms; eventually they replied and opened fire too,” Janga said. “Dino has been going round telling people that he was attacked by unidentified armed men; no, they were real police officers. “They were there on assignment. Nobody attacked Dino but rather, his convoy attacked my policemen and they repelled,” he added. The commissioner while condemning the alleged assault on the police officers at the scene of the incident, said the lawmaker had been invited for questioning and that the police would be forced to declare the embattled lawmaker wanted, should he refuse to ignore their invitation. “We are going after him (Melaye) and if we cannot see him, we will declare him wanted and we will send his name for watchlisting,” Janga said. The family of Angela Igwetu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, shot dead by a police officer, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibraham Idris, demanding justice against Garki General Hospital. In the petition, the family told the police authorities to go after the hospital, insisting that the autopsy report faulted the claims made by the hospital. Angela, a 23-year-old corps member, had joined few of her friends on July 4, 2018 at a hangout before their Passing out Parade scheduled for the following day, DAILY POST has reported. The group were reportedly on their way home around 3 am when Angela was shot at a checkpoint immediately after Ceddi Plaza by a police officer, identified as Benjamin Peters. She was subsequently rushed to the General Hospital, Garki, where she eventually gave up the ghost around 6 am. A petition, which was written by the family’ s counsel, Simphil Associates to the Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command, read in part, “We are solicitors to Chief Geoffrey Igwetu ( hereinafter referred to as our client ), the father to the late Angela Nkechi Igwetu who died on July 4, 2018, at the Garki Hospital, within the jurisdiction of the FCT Command. “According to our client, his daughter , late Nkechi, was allegedly shot about 3. 05 am along the road of the CEDI plaza, Central Business District, Abuja, and within five minutes of the incident, she was rushed to the Garki Hospital, Abuja, for medical attention. “Surprisingly, the hospital refused to promptly administer the treatment on the grounds that the family must deposit N50, 000 before any medical service would be rendered to her. They reportedly rejected an offer of transfer of the said sum to their account and insisted on production of the money in cash. “The family claimed that the hospital watched its daughter died slowly, adding that after the Divisional Police Officer of the Central Area Police Division reportedly deposited N20, 000 with the promise of personally ensuring the payment of the balance of N 30, 000, the hospital still refused to conduct medical examination on Angela. “We are still in shock that after five days of the death of late Nkechi, the Garki General Hospital released a report, dated July 9, 2018, claiming among other issues that there was no ‘exit wound’ on her . Unbelievable! “The condition/ demand by the said hospital as pre -condition before the late Nkechi could be treated and the eventual refusal/neglect to give her the required medical treatment is contrary to the provisions of the Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshots Act signed into law by the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on December 20, 2017. “In view of the above , it is our brief to demand that you investigate the above allegations for the possible prosecution of the Chief Medical Director (CMD ) and other staff of the hospital on duty on the early hours of July 4, 2018, for their failure to comply with the extant laws that will make it compulsory that people in the situation such as late Miss Nkechi found herself are treated promptly. “Our client strongly believes that prompt medical care could have saved the life of his daughter , late Angela Nkechi Igwetu,” the petition added. Fayemi polled 13,869 against Fayose’s anointed candidate’s 11,456 votes. However, Eleka won in Fayose’s polling unit and ward which was not enough to secure victory for his party in the local government area. The local government has 11 wards. Result from each ward was collated at the headquarters of INEC situated in Igede. A total of 66,162 voters are registered in the local government while 27,306 were accredited. Only party agents of APC and PDP present at the centre signed the result at 11:06p.m. APC, PDP ALLEGEDLY WOOED VOTERS at EKITI ELECTION 2018 with cash: At the election, tension set in as allegations of vote-buying were levelled against party agents by voters in some polling units. In some cases, the situation led to friction among loyalists of various political parties. At Ward 12 in the Igbehin area of Ado-Ekiti, an elderly voter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, accused the All Progressives Congress of offering N5,000 to those who had the Permanent Voter Card to secure their votes. He said he rejected the offer. “I was offered N5,000 to vote for the party but I rejected it. I am 73 years old retired teacher. I cannot allow the future of my children to be bought by moneybags. I don’t know how we descended to this level when people brazenly offer money to people to secure their votes. It was not like this in the past. Will our votes count with this problem?” he asked. In Ayegbaju and Oye-Ekiti, it was alleged that party agents paid those who had no PVC N2,000 to vote in connivance with the INEC officials. A source, who simply identified herself as Bimbo, said after those who had PVC had voted, some of the remaining ballot papers were thumb-printed by youths who had no PVC with the promise of financial gratification. She said: “If you look well and observe the polling units, the INEC officials connive to allow this thing to happen. They pretended to check the fingerprint but it is fraud they are perpetrating.” The Peoples Democratic Party was also accused of offering voters N3,000 each to secure their votes. Apart from the reported N3,000 allegedly paid to some civil servants and pensioners by the PDP-led state government, the party agents were accused of going from house to house, approaching voters who possessed PVC. The Situation Room is a coalition comprising CSOs like the Cleen Foundation, Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Police and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), among others. Briefing journalist in Ado Ekiti during its first preliminary on the Ekiti governorship election, Chairman of the coalition, Clement Nwankwo said the menace of monetized politics should be tackled in the country to sanitise the electoral system. He urged security agencies to shun acts of intimidation on the day of the election to prevent apathy, and that the 30,000 police personnel deployed in Ekiti must be evenly spread to ensure safety across all the towns and villages. “We have made recommendations to the security agencies on how to tackle vote buying. It is a serious electoral offence that must not be allowed in our country. “So, our security must be up and doing and remain committed to the success of this poll”, he advised. Nwankwo commended the security agencies for sustaining peace on the eve of the election, describing this as a sign that the election will be orderly and credible. The Situation Room maintained that “the political parties must conduct themselves in a manner that does not encourage violence by their supporters, as they will be held liable for their activities that trigger violence. “We call on the security agencies, including Army, police and other arms to assure election observers and electorate of their personal safety and urges voters to go out and peacefully to cast their votes in exercise of their constitutional rights to be part of democratic process. “We reiterate that all elections must demonstrate the highest possible commitment from the security services to support INEC in completing its constitutional role of organizing credible elections that can inspired continued public confidence.” READ MORE>>>http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/ekiti-guber-situation-room-speaks-on.html . .

The senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari’s claims on the Abuja light rail project was “factually incorrect.” He stated this on Thursday via his Facebook page. The lawmaker dismissed President Buhari’s comment that his government started and completed the project. Bruce argued that the project was initiated and came to a near completion by the previous administrations of Obasanjo, Yar’adua and Jonathan respectively. Ben Bruce wrote, “NOTICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. The Abuja Light Railway project today commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari is NOT an example of the present administration’s delivering on its promises, as the President claimed today. That is factually incorrect. “That is a project by the previous government. It was initiated by President Obasanjo and most of the work was completed by the Yar’adua and Jonathan regimes. Truth must be sacrosanct!” READ MORE>>> http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/abuja-light-rail-lie-buhari-told-ben.html

Some bank customers in Omu-Aran, Kwara, have heaved a sigh of relief as a commercial bank in the town re-opened three months after shutting down. The News Agency of Nigeria reports on Wednesday that the bank had remained closed since April, following an armed robbery attack on some commercial banks in Offa. The bank, which only began skeletal services in January 2017, three years after a similar attack on banks in Omu-Aran community, had since the last robbery in Offa remained closed. The bank’s closure had forced bank customers to engage the services of local money transfer operators in the community. NAN recalls that some armed bandits had in May 2013, attacked three commercial banks in Omu-Aran, killing three persons and carted away undisclosed amount of money. One of the banks had to reopen in January 2017, after persistent pressure and appeals from the people of the community. The community had also donated two Hilux vehicles to the police to aid in combating crime in the area, and to encourage the banks to commence business activities. Some bank customers told NAN on Wednesday that they had no choice but to travel about 75 kilometres to Ilorin to carry out bank transactions while the closure lasted. NAN also reports that another bank affected by the May 2013 attack in the community, had embarked on a massive renovation of its building toward commencing banking transactions before the Offa incident. The bank had since jettisoned the plan of re-opening its branch in the town and remained closed to customers. The latest re-opening of a bank’s branch in Omu-Aran NAN gathered, may not be unconnected with the recent massive deployment of detachment of a mobile police unit in the community. All efforts to speak with the bank officials on the development proved abortive as none of them was ready to volunteer any information. Mr Dotun Adeyeye, a businessman, described the development as heart-warming and a pleasant development. “I am very happy that one of the banks has opened its doors to customers, our prayer is for the other banks to follow in that order. “The bank’s refusal to reopen for business since the Offa attack has dealt a big blow to our business activities,” he said. Mrs Roseline Adebayo, a civil servant praised members of Omu-Aran Development Association and the Olomu-in-Council for ensuring the re-opening of the bank. Chief Bisi Adeyemi, the ODA President, expressed the association’s appreciation to the bank management for yielding to the request of the community in that regard. He pledged the association’s readiness to continue to partner with security agents and other stakeholders in ensuring a safe banking environment. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/offa-robbery-bank-reopens-after-3-months.html

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has advised political parties that were signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding signed by political parties to remove President Buhari in 2019, to ensure the agreement was properly handled, so as to avert future crisis. Recall that the Social Democratic Party, SDP, was among the 36 political parties that signed the memorandum in Abuja on Monday, with the main objective to oust the All Progressives Congress-led federal government in the 2019 general elections. The Abia State chairman of SDP, Hon. Chidi Nwosu, gave the advice, in an interactive session with newsmen, on Wednesday in Umuahia, the state capital. Nwosu called on the initiators of the coalition to ensure the memorandum was cemented to accommodate everybody’s interest in order to stop members from backing out. According to the former Abia lawmaker, “This action as envisaged will have its problems in the near future. And its problems will come when it is time to share offices. That is also part of the problems APC have had. ” Not accommodating those that helped them to win election. Not recognizing the efforts of those individuals, and witch hunting of those perceived to be having thoughts and ideas that are not very compatible with that of APC”. “I still feel like if this MoU is not properly handled, it may also lead to certain persons or groups disembarking, but I do not pray for that to happen. It is my wish if it will be possible to front one presidential candidate by all these parties. APC would now be in problem”. “But in the normal Nigeria character, people may also go where they feel, they have the maximum advantage because APC is not going to be quiet. They will start approaching this groups now”. ” So, I will advise that, let the MoU be cemented to a point that everybody is accommodated and everybody’s interest is there”. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/sdp-advises-cupp-on-how-to-sustain.html

The Arewa Consultative Youths Forum, ACYF, has reacted to the recent Memorandum of Understanding MoU, signed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and 36 other political parties in the country. The Reformed All Progressives Congress, R-APC, a faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with the PDP and other parties ahead of the 2019 general elections. The main objective of the agreement, which has generated reactions across the country, is to defeat President Muammadu Buhari in 2019. Speaking with DAILY POST on the matter, ACYF President, Shettima Yerima, described the move as a welcome development, adding that it was long overdue. Yerima accused President Buhari of running an undemocratic government where perceived oppositions and critics were victimized. He said Nigeria was in dire need of a leader and not a ruler. He said, “The move Its a welcome development. In fact it is long overdue. Its very long overdue because Nigeria is in need of peace, stability; proper democracy and unity. “And as you can see, at this critical time you can see how the polity is being overheated by some decisions of the All Progressives Congress. We are not looking for a ruler but we are looking for a leader. “A leader has to be a man who has the heart to forgive; a leader has to be a man who looks at everybody as equal and a father to everybody. But a ruler does things with impunity and runs the whole country like and umpire. “We don’t’ need an umpire now. We need a nation where everyone will be treated equally; where there’ll be development and where things will work. “Coming together of the political parties is a clear indication that Nigerians must come out en mass and say enough of this so that we can have we can have a new order and that is what was demonstrated yesterday by fellow Nigerians who saw that truly there’s a need for a better option. “We’ll ensure that we work together with prerogative minds who are willing to build the nation. People who are willing to forgive one another and obey the rule of law without intimidating perceived enemies or oppositions that is the norms of democracy.” “There are over eleven states where daily killing is going on. Daily killings. You are only covering what is going on in Benue state. We have eleven states where there is uprising; where there is incessant killings of innocent Nigerians. So let us work and build a country where there’ll be peace; where a life of one would be respected. If one person dies we all mourn him as a nation. That is what we are looking for.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/2019-why-r-apc-pdp-36-parties-mou-to.html

The Nigerian Customs Command overseeing Niger, Kogi, and Kwara states has intercepted an Onitsha bound truck load of 200,000 live ammunition being brought into the country from Benin Republic. Two suspects, who were identified as the driver, Bukari Dauda and the owner of the cartridges, Martin Anokwara were apprehended along the Wawa – Babana border in Niger state in a Iveco Truck with Lagos registration number AKD 904 XE. The Command Controller, Comptroller Benjamin Binga said that his men intercepted the truck which entered the country through the Babana border at about 3 a.m on Monday morning. He said that the truck was disguised to be carrying over 100 empty gericans but on thorough checking, it was discovered that the truck had a false bottom which was used to hide the cartridges. He added: “The checking was not from tip off, it was just out of sheer curiosity that my men decided to do a thorough checking and discovered that unlike other bottoms of trucks, this one had nuts and on removing the nuts, they discovered it was a false bottom which revealed the cartridges. “The cartridges are numbering thousands, it would take us hours to count it. We are now working to establish what the cartridges are really meant for and who sent them to bring it into the country.” Interrogating the suspects, the driver of the truck, Bukari Dauda said he is from Cotonu in Benin Republic and he was employed by the driver, Martin Anokwara to drive the truck for him to Onitsha. Dauda said that he did not know the truck contained live cartridges as Martin only told him he wanted to take the empty gericans back to the Nigeria. The owner of the cartridges, Martin Anokwara confirmed that he is the owner of the cartridges just as he said that it is not meant for robbery . According to him, he supplies hunters and licensed owners of double barrel guns adding that he only sells them in Anambra. Martin explained that the driver of the truck fell sick which made him contract Dauda to drive him back to Nigeria saying that they had entered the country before they were apprehended by the customs. The Customs Controller of the Niger, Kwara and Kogi Commamd said that they would be interrogated before they are charged to court. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/customs-intercepts-truckload-of-200000.html

The management of the Nigeria Customs Service , NCS, on Monday urged Nigerians to be wary of the activities of internet fraudsters who are advertising vacancies in the Service. The service Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Attah told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the NCS was aware that internet fraudsters were on the prowl, cashing in on the desperation of job seekers to extort money from them. “I want Nigerians to know that Customs is not recruiting currently and we don’t know how many times we have to say this. “You see all sorts of advertisement on recruitment on social media such as replacement. I don’t know who one wants to replace,” Attah said. He said in para-military or military recruitment there was no word like replacement. According to him, when the Service recruits personnel, they go through a process of documentation after which they are given service numbers, trained and commissioned. “You cannot replace anybody. We have arrested a number of internet fraudsters and even secured some convictions in 2017, yet people will not resist the temptation by these fraudsters.” Attah added that when members of the public see advertisement for replacement of personnel, which requires them to part with money, it should call for caution. He urged job seekers to be cautious and ask why the fraudsters avoid personal contact with them. Attah advised job seekers to dismiss any recruitment process that begins and ends outside Customs premises, saying they should go to the nearest Customs formation to verify such claims before parting with their money. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/nigeria-customs-speaks-on-recruitment.html |

Ministry of Communication Technology had 78 projects insertion worth N3.9bn, while ministries of Defence and Environment has 19 projects and 147 projects valued at N12.5bn and N9.5bn, respectively. Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA: Six projects worth N7.2bn were inserted into its budget; Foreign Affairs had 57 projects worth N8.29bn; Health had 885 projects worth N38.47bn; Information had 178 projects worth N8.9bn; Interior had 78 projects valued at N8bn; and Ministry of Labour and Employment had 226 projects, estimated at N13.02bn. Mines and Steel with 34 projects worth N2.2bn; Niger Delta, 102 projects worth N5.72bn; Office of National Security Adviser had two projects worth N5.35bn, while the Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation had 448 projects valued at N35.12bn. Ministry of Science and Technology with 506 projects valued at N35.64bn; Trade and Investment had 334 projects worth N33.83bn; Ministry of Transportation had 23 projects valued at N10.9bn; Ministry of Women Affairs had 41 projects, estimated at N1.52bn; and Ministry of Youths and Sports had 67 projects worth N2.49bn inserted into its budget. Buhari on June 20 signed the budget worth N9.1tn made up of N2.87tn for capital expenditure, N3.51tn for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure and N2.01tn projected for debt servicing. But the president, in his speech, complained of the insertions. He said, “The logic behind the Constitutional direction that budgets should be proposed by the Executive is that, it is the Executive that knows and defines its policies and projects. “Unfortunately, that has not been given much regard in what has been sent to me. The National Assembly made cuts amounting to 347 billion Naira in the allocations to 4,700 projects submitted to them for consideration and introduced 6,403 projects of their own amounting to 578 billion Naira. “Many of the projects cut are critical and may be difficult, if not impossible, to implement with the reduced allocation. “Some of the new projects inserted by the National Assembly have not been properly conceptualized, designed and costed and will therefore be difficult to execute. “Furthermore, many of these new projects introduced by the National Assembly have been added to the budgets of most MDAs with no consideration for institutional capacity to execute them or the incremental recurrent expenditure that may be required. “As it is, some of these projects relate to matters that are the responsibility of the States and Local Governments, and for which the Federal Government should therefore not be unduly burdened. ”Such examples of projects from which cuts were made are as follows: The provisions for some nationally/regionally strategic infrastructure projects such as Counter-part funding for the Mambilla Power Plant, Second Niger Bridge/ancillary roads, the East-West Road, Bonny-Bodo Road, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Itakpe-Ajaokuta Rail Project were cut by an aggregate of 11.5 billion Naira. “Similarly, provisions for some ongoing critical infrastructure projects in the FCT, Abuja especially major arterial roads and the mass transit rail project, were cut by a total of 7.5 billion Naira. “The provision for Rehabilitation and Additional Security Measures for the United Nations Building by the FCT, Abuja was cut by 3.9 billion Naira from 4 billion Naira to 100 million Naira. “The above will make it impossible for the Federal Government of Nigeria to fulfill its commitment to the United Nations on this project. “The provisions for various Strategic Interventions in the health sector such as the upgrade of some tertiary health institutions, transport and storage of vaccines through the cold chain supply system, provision of anti-retroviral drugs for persons on treatment, establishment of chemotherapy centres and procurement of dialysis consumables were cut by an aggregate amount of 7.45 billion Naira. “The provision for security infrastructure in the 104 Unity Schools across the country were cut by 3 billion Naira at a time when securing our students against acts of terrorism ought to be a major concern of government. “The provision for the Federal Government’s National Housing Programme was cut by 8.7 billion Naira. “At a time when we are working with Labour to address compensation-related issues, a total of 5 billion Naira was cut from the provisions for Pension Redemption Fund and Public Service Wage Adjustment.” Responding, the National Assembly, at a joint briefing, explained why the adjustments were carried out. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/nass-vs-buhari-details-of-n578bn.html

A former Minister of Petroleum and Energy, and a strong supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof Tam David-West, has given reason he would not want the president to return to power in 2919. David-West also told the President that the proposed plan to establish cattle ranches across the country would justify the claim in some quarters that he (Buhari) wants to islamise Nigeria. He noted that the implication of such move would be grave, and added that he was surprised and saddened by the decision. Speaking with The Sun, where he outline why Buhari should not return in 2019, the former Minister noted that people are suffering as nothing seems to be working in the country. “Why I am saying no (to Buhari’s second term) is that I ask myself as a supporter of Buhari: Are the people happy? “A good friend is not one who praises you, but the one who tells you the truth. There is no question that people are not happy. There is no question that the economy is not doing well. “There is no question that a lot of people are suffering. So, if he wants to run for a second term, it will be on his ticket. Nobody imposed Buhari on Nigerians. “People voted for him. Get the ticket first and when you take the ticket, let the people be happy. Where there are areas of discontents and concerns, try to take active steps to correct them so that you can give greater happiness to greater number. When Nigerians are happy, they will vote for you.” “In the first place, I am surprised that the government has not seen the implications. If I was Buhari, I would be the last person to agree to ranch in non-ranching areas. “First, you were accused that you wanted to Islamise Nigeria and it is completely false. If you now allow different states in different parts of the country, to establish special places for ranching, would people not say it is a means of establishing colonies for Islamic groups? “The implications will be very grave. In any case, I am so surprised and sad. When I was a child in Port Harcourt, we had all these cattle ranchers; we would even play with them. Nobody had trouble. I still believe some politicians are behind all these. “But to establish special areas for ranching in different parts of the country is a dangerous move to make. “People may misinterpret it that he wants to Islamise, especially when it was quoted that Uthman Dan Fodio, that led the Jihad of 1804, said he wanted to deep Quran in the sea in Lagos, coming from Sokoto.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/2019-david-west-gives-reason-buhari.html

Ekiti Recovery Movement (ERM), on Saturday celebrated the 20th year of the death of the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief Moshood Kashimaawo Olawale Abiola (MKO) in Ekiti State, branding him the pillar on which Nigerian democracy rests. The group commended President Muhammadu Buhari for honouring the business mogul by conferring the highest honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on him. In his address at the memorial lecture held in Ado Ekiti, the ERM Coordinator, Barrister Olalekan Soyombo, said the essence of the ceremony was to further restate the fact that those who worked assiduously to rekindle the passion for democracy must be celebrated to serve as a guiding principle for the coming generations. He said the past administrations headed by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Musa Yar’Adua and Dr Goodluck Jonathan betrayed Nigerians by their refusal to honour Abiola despite paying the supreme price for Nigeria to stand democratically. Soyombo said: “After Abiola was incarcerated, what followed were surreptitious and subtle moves to coerce him to abandon the mandate that was freely given to him by Nigerians through ballot on June 12 1993; he resisted this vehemently and doggedly. “His arrest and detention gave birth to the growth of the Pan-Nigeria pro-democracy movements. Many activists and patriots both in Nigeria and diaspora, came together to form many organizations that were instrumental to the cause that finally led to the permanent confinement of the military to the barracks and set the country on the path of democracy which we enjoy today as a people. “Pro-democarcy organizations like NADECO, CDHR, CD, CLO and CDD kept organizing mass resistance movements in collaborations with Trade Union movements like NLC, NUPENG, PENGASSAN to force the military to recognise the democratic rights of the Nigerian people to elect a leader of their choice which is what that June 12 election represents”. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/mko-abiola-obasanjo-yaradua-jonathan.html

Popular Nigerian musician, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has taken a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari for desiring to continue in power beyond 2019. Burns Boy disclosed that he would not be voting in the 2019 general elections. According to him, voting next year would be tantamount to supporting the same crop of politicians to continue to remain in power at the expense of the youths. He wrote on his Instagram page yesterday: “He (Macron) was six years old when Buhari was Nigerian Head of State in 1983. Now, Emmanuel Macron is President of France. Buhari is Nigerian President. “If this doesn’t explain it all, I don’t know want can. “I will not be voting (in 2019) and see no reason why me or any Nigerian youth should. “If you think your votes mean anything or that you can implement change by voting for he same people, you are delusional and you’re part of the problem. “We are hopeless youths who are too scared to fight for our future. Therefore, we unconsciously accept to have no future. Just recycle the past over and over while praying and talking so much. “They (old leaders) will continue to mess with us unless we tame them.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/07/2019-burna-boy-takes-swipe-on-buhari.html
