When that refinery starts, government should not sell fuel at a loss, because it would wreck the refinery.

The experts state that any fuel refined in Nigeria would cost N70 less than the landing cost..so fuel better cost N930 at least, or more, certainly not below N700.

We have not diversifed our economy at all, not regulated revenue from mining, not improved agriculture....so here we are. All our leaders, TInubu inclusive are to blame. Pretending that fuel is cheap even made matters worse.

Clap for yourself Mr analyzer. Hadit been I know you now....

So they can't run a cost reflective government, but they can easily tamper and justify every other thing that affects the masses directly. You guys just open your mouths waaaah and start justifying evil... Continue, till it hits you in the face.

The issue is devaluation. If Naira wasn't devalued there wouldn't be any subsidy. Tinubu made mistake in floating Naira after removal of subsidy which proves his evonomic team are not smart. You first of all float the currency and after it has achieved stable exchange rate then you can remove subsidy.

If one has been following this thing for as long as I have, you would see that we are paying a subsidy.

1.APC apologists cry that fuel is not being subsidised...well it is. Landing cost was N720 as at October, now it is N1000..meaning subsidy costs rose from N20-140 to N300-420 per liter today. We are pushing ourselves into more debt so see where we are

2.IN 2012 january, landing cost was N99 per liter, now it is N1000. Fuel price was N97 per liter now it is N580-720.

Assuming Nigeria kept fuel at N97 per liter as some PDP apologists wanted , by now subsidy would have risen from N2 per liter to N920 per liter ...and note that fuel consumption has risen over the years.

We would have a debt that would make our current debt look like the pocket money you give your 10 year old.

See how much subsidy costs? But all of you, be it PDP or APC or LP, many of you want it.

Oya, come and get your fuel at N97....lol.

You make a lot of sense.

Oil price is determined by international benchmark.

If Nigeria is still selling oil by N97 , where are we going to get the money to pay the subsidy?

That is where pump prices are being adjusted according to the benchmark all over the world.

When exchange rate was N800 to 1US Dollar.

To get a property of N10million you need $12,500.

With current N1500 to 1US Dollar.

You now need less than $7,000 to achieve the same property value of N10million.

What an amazing opportunity to Nigerians In Diaspora to key into safe and secure Investments back in Nigeria.
Buy land and house with good title documents in a safe and secure Estate.

Do you know that if that property worth 10M has appreciated by 100% to 20M, it is still a loss or someone converting from dollars.

That $12k he converted to Naira, if he wants to his 12k back, he needs almost 19M.

Isn't it better to leave the $12k in the bank than to buy a property here and the Naira profit isn't even up to the USD capital invested.

Your illustration is faulty.

That hypothetical property won't cost 10million naira, it would have been adjusted upward to reflect the reality on ground. So you might need more than 12,500USD to get the same property.

Well, at the end of the day, no matter how many funny stories you tell about me (I no know any politican, the one I even know retired centuries ago, and is not in active politics for over 10 years self and was in PDP anyway)....things cost money, even petrol, and if you pretend it is cheap, wahala go result.

See Venezuela wey sell fuel for N40, today their once powerful refinery has gone from refining 900000bpd to refining less than 100000bpd.

Even NIgeria, subsidy dey since 1973, at the end we went from 400000 bpd in the 80's to 92000 in 2012, to 6500 in 2019.

And you think subsidy works still.

Anyway, cry, weep, abuse, get angry, and anyway...your beloved TInubu is still paying a subsidy self, so what are you angry about.....but so long as that subsidy remains, wahala dey.

Good evening, son.

Imagine you are the president of this country and with current economic reality on ground, will you bring petrol to over a thousand Naira?

Fuel is expensive all over the world.

Even if you do comparative analysis, petrol is cheaper in Nigeria as it is now, compared to other western countries

This is all because of Naira fall to dollar. You will not understand till u change 1k for 400 cfa to pay 25000cfa for one useless hotel. Which 8s about #60k meanwhile 10 months aga it would have been #22k by convertion rate. This conutry is completly finshed in the hand of Tinubu and his supporters.

When you factor subsidized social infrastructure those other countries enjoy, then fuel is not expensive to them, they can live without much of it. Stop comparing a country with no social support system with those who have When analysing fuel price. If mass transit system exists, if power is available, if water run in people's homes they won't complain much. Your leaders steal all moneys they ought to use to make social amenities available to people leaving them without support and turn around to remove subsidy and you are here sheepishly and ignorantly echoing their senseless argument.

You guys are always quick to jump into standard of living in the western world, yet you are not ready to pay what they are paying.

Do you know the number of bills they pay?

How many do you pay?

How many of you pay taxes at all. Lot of Nigerians have never paid any form of tax in their lifetime?

If the Government starts to charge you for owning TV, wont you scream to high heaven.

Yeah, but let's be honest, maintainig subsidy has brought a lot of problems for our economy.

Now, let's be honest, I think there should be some subsidy for say the poorest of the poor. But what makes subsidy impossible in Nigeria is simple....we don;t have enough money for it. Yes our politicans loot, but we spent 10 trillion naira on subsidy in 2022, and 14 trillion in 2023. I doubt that any politican has looted that amount at all.

Either we do as sane nations do and raise our tax to gdp and get the money that way, or we sell more cocoa, cotton and solid minerals to raise monies for things like fuel subsidy. Either that, or we forget about subsidy.

That money u quoted is far from the original cost for subsidy. Based on my permutations fuel subsidy for 2022 was not up to 450billion the rest was looted. The entire subsidy has to be restructured to reflect the true cost and with that Nigeria can very well afford it. Even Australia who subsidizes petrol did not spend upto 150million dollars in 2022.

The bolded is a lie.

I was in Nigeria sometimes and the electricity was relatively stable. I heard people complaining that the amount charged on their meters was finishing quickly. What did they do? They started bypassing the meters.

Most of you cant pay for the so-called "enjoyment" you covet in the western world.

Na so so complaints. If not, go ask your peeps abroad how they are complaining about bills taking large chunks of their salaries.

You even talk of "social support", do you know how much UK government collects from each citizen monthly as National Insurance. If Nigeria government starts to implement that, you will all cry to high heaven or you think it is the UK or Canada Government that is making provision for the social support system?
