Tinubu surrounded himself with technocrats that have little or no experience on how to stabilize economy, if not they won't be advising him to be increasing taxes when inflation is terribly on the rise

Peter obi on the otherhand is right with the submission, we just don't know if his intentions are clear because he's an importer, he might be indirectly lamenting for the added taxes on his import duties

How does Nigeria Customs determine the actual cost of the goods being cleared?
They don't.
Your declarations gives them a fair idea of the cost of your goods.
ASYCUDA managed to aggregate costs of goods around the world, but, it is not a foolproof cost determinant.

How many importers buy dollar at official rate? Oga they get their dollars from pallarel market so PO is right. If they buy the fx expensive, they'll pass it to their buyers and inflation will continue. You're the one that doesn't know what you'resaying. Stop talking for talking sake.
casualobserver:

He is talking nonsense. When he imports does he set the price he sells all the things he imports in his supermarkets based on N1000 to dollar or the current rate? So as an importer who imports things that can be manufactured in Nigeria, he wants to pocket the difference because he won’t pass on the savings to you.

Obi and his ilk are the very people who have destroyed this country via rent seeking. Firstly they will import using official rate, they will pay duty based on official rate and they will charge the public prices based on the parallel rate and pocket the difference. All that money should have gone to the government to provide social services, schools roads etc.

When we tell you the likes of Obi that ruined this country, this is how they do it.

Government is now saying no more!!! You will buy forex at the market rate and pay duty at the market rate. If people cannot afford your imported products then make them here or find something else doing. We are not subsidizing imports and overseas jobs anymore.

People like Obi used to obtain their forex at the official rate, that’s also why he invested in a bank. That part of it (official and subsidized forex) is over for everybody so that is a mute point now. Now everybody buys forex at the same rate. Why then should some pay duty at different rates?

The question you should answer is
1) will he sell his products at a reduced rate because he paid less duty?
2) why should the country subsidize importers, especially those importing things that can be produced in the country? Why should the country subsidize the creation of jobs abroad?

You pay based on the exchange rate at the time your goods are assed for duty.. what if you buy dollars at N1500 and it rises to N1000 by the time his goods arrive, he will be asked to pay less duty. Will he complain and say no he must pay duty at N1500?

I seriously wonder all the time. Do you people have any brain cells?
