Hmmmm.... Does this mean that once bitten, no amount of first aid can keep a victim alive ?

First aid may work (elevating the affected area or tying a tourniquet over the bite since the venom is primarily neurotoxic and not cytotoxic) but only anti-venom can truly prevent the onset of paralysis and total collapse of the respiratory and circulatory systems within 30 minutes.

Rat Snake are non-venomous and docile.

That's the reason he was able to angrily kill it.

The snake is obviously a species of cobra,most likely a forest cobra.
African cobras are notorious for raiding poultry farms in search of eggs and young birds.
A species of forest cobra even raids fish ponds.
Cobras of all species possess an extremely potent venom which is neurotoxic.
Their venom attacks the nervous system especially the part controlling respiration and the heart, and will bring on death within minutes.

I doubt health centers or private hospitals have anti venoms available more over you have to know the type of snake that bite someone to know the anti venom to administer

But it can be locally treated, my sister was once bitten by a viper she was lucky we have some village people around
He man removed the venom by cutting her with blade all over the leg

Nigeria uses a polyvalent antivenom, effect against viperidae (vipers), elapids (cobras) and dendroaspis sp (mambas).

Wrong. Black mambas get their name from the black colour of their mouths, not skin.

They are typically grey, ash or brown-coloured. Hard to kill as they are super fast, can climb trees and raise themselves several feet in the air.

Can the venom be Treated in Nigeria?

Do you know Cashew tree?
Just cut the bark, chew it and swallow the juice and throw away the chaff. The venom will become ordinary water in your system.
You can cut the bark, dry and store for emergency. It hardly gets spoil. The bark can last for over 3 yrs.

Forest Conras aren't as black as this, and they tend to have a yellow underbelly, usually with black spots
