After seeing this video, I went on YouTube to watch ambush/combat videos. Truth is that modern warfare is different, most shots fired are random in the direction of the enemy. There's no aim and fire.

This is real life stuff, formation and those crap don't work when you are in an ambush, you have no idea who the enemy is, no idea their fire power, no idea if there are mines.

They attack because they know the terrain, they feel they have the upper hand, the army were not even close to their base of operation, no planning, nothing.

Before a mission is approved, there is lots of intelligence on the enemy movement, firepower, manpower, stronghold, without this information it's almost a shot in the dark.

The US army use, satalite, drones, many ATF devices that makes the ground troops looks like heros or superman, Look at the guys, no bullet proof vest, this shouldn't be SOP for any army, but, you buy job, no complain.

E don too watch movies, don't blame the mumu, give am AK 47 and give him a military outfit to wear and join in that battle field he won't last 3 minutes without getting shot or worst

There is zero differences between what this soldiers are doing to what a random group of boys would do if you put them in same situation

When I was in the US military, any commandant that issue out formation that way in a hostile/confrontational situation, will be as good as being shipped back to base for more training. He never used any of the 26 code words (ICAO) during this operation. But you have to cut them some slack. Real life war nor be video game sha. Try go gun range then your body go tell you after you come out. Just imagine being in a Gun range for numerous hours in a chaotic environment.

from the video we saw, that does not look like an ambush. The enemies were clearly in front and the nigerian troops had a line formation advancing forward. An ambush is when the nigerian soldiers were caught by surprise and are trapped. Does that look like an ambush to you?

You can be well prepared and still walk into an ambush. For example if you're chasing someone, and he runs into a street where his guys are waiting for you. And you didn't know and chased him inside the street, It's an ambush.

I am glad you thought about that. And that is why you can't send every soldier in a line formation to advance.

Let us look at it this way..

What if there is a trench and it has been covered by the enemies, as the enemies are running away, the nigerian soldiers feeling smart and advancing forward.

They fall in the trench, this gives the enemies to attack. Or in that trench, there are spikes in it.

This is what I mean, that line formation is an old tactic of advancement. It has to be in a form of zig zag, well spaced. Even if the nigerian soldiers chased someone in the street and his men setsup an ambush, team A leading the pack would go into the ambush and not the entire "line formation" (team).

Same thing about my trench example. Team A would likely fall into the trench ,creating other team in a zig zag motion to be aware and not fall into the trench.

Omo, with your tactics, you will kill a platoon. We learned this in the USarmy.
