When or at what age can a girl earn the respectability of womanhood? Is it when she gets her first baby, or is it when she grows past a certain age?
Just curious to know. undecided

Question is also as good for males.

When they reach adulthood.
Some places use the legal age.
Some places use puberty.

There really is no definite age. Some people are very mature at 16 and some people twice their age still have a lot of growing up to do, regardless of their status or life stage.

different cultures have different times.
Example the jewish culture would have a bar mitzvha for a boy at the age of 13 and from then he is considered a man. Some other cultures would wait till a girl sees her first mensuration and then she is considered a woman

good observation. There are indeed such societal rituals that turn boys to men. Camara Laye describes something similar in the African Chid. But how seriously are these things taken today? As you would notice, even Laye could see no concrete evidence of migration into manhood after these acts. Is it convenient then to disregard them as tradition? And has the modern world not put forth its own rituals for man- or womanhood?

My answer is very short.

When that individual can stand on its own, making personal positive decisions, mature in thinking and sees life from a broader view, live independently with positive image.

Very short, but very correct! Seconded!!

Let those who say marriage defines adulthood keep on deceiving themselves; if that misguided statement is correct, it then means that people who choose to be single all through their lives will never be called "true men/women". This cave-men mentality may reign supreme in some dark regions of mother Africa, but it has since been discarded in the developed world.
