Arsene Wenger's comments from Emirates press conference today

Arsène Wenger says Arsenal will “completely respect” Liverpool’s stance on Luis Suárez as the Gunners continue to be linked with the Uruguay striker.

The north London club are understood to have had two bids for the 26-year-old turned down by the Reds after the forward made public his desire to leave Anfield at the end of last season.

Wenger says he prefers to conduct his transfer dealings with as much confidentiality as possible but revealed that he is looking for an “amicable” resolution to the situation concerning the striker.
“I don’t want to speak about Suárez because that’s between Liverpool and Arsenal,” Wenger told a news conference on Friday ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup.

“We will completely respect what Liverpool want to do – [and] we want to do that in an amicable way if it’s feasible.
“I’m a great believer that you have to keep as much confidentiality as possible and that is quite difficult in the modern world.
“We work very hard not only on the case you named [Suárez] but other different cases.”

Suárez, who was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra in 2011, is currently serving a 10-game ban handed to him for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a game at Anfield back in April.
And Wenger admits that the controversial forward would have to fully respect the “values” of the north London club should he join the Gunners this summer.

“We have values that we want our players to respect, no matter where they come from,” he continued. “We will of course be very tough on that.
“This club has built a reputation, not only during my period here, but during 130 years – and the values that are very important for this club have to be respected by every player, no matter where he comes from. That will be the case with every potential signing.”
