I think why Martinelli get tk start is because he is more explosive and a proper wide forward. Trossard is different in that he comes inside a lot. Both are suitable for different tactics.

Our only unresolved or should I say challenging position is the CF. Balogun (If we somehow keep him)/ Nketiah/ Jesus may just be good enough considering how fluid and dynamic we will be with our wing play. I still wish we signed a true CF, especially against those low block teams.

Play Saliba in midfield and he will still give you 10/10. I know he is press resistant but those little dribbles eh. He successfully dribbled the three City players and they only stopped him by fouling him. This is the third time in a row he is attempting these insane dribbling skills.

There was. Timber was to invert and Rice moved up. I saw the attempt several times but due to the 4-4-2 Pep used it allowed Walker to take up advanced positions thereby forcing Timber to stay put.

It worked for them because Rodri and Kovacic were very mobile in midfield and controlled it especially early in the game.

Havertz was then forced to drop into midfield like Odegaard so that we can control it. We obviously played without a striker.

I absolutely agree. My suggestion isn't as plan A but as a B because we saw how teams frustrated us last season.

As for Trossard, I love his decision making, he wastes no time in dangerous situations. However, I would still like to see him start from the wings and remain fluid or invert to the CF. He is dangerous when he plays from either side of the wing, particularly the left.

Ok I get your point. A a plan B it is very important. We have Nketiah for that but we don't trust him. With a decent CF, Tierney and Tomiyasu should be starting.

Would there have been any need to invert any of our full backs since we were playing a double pivot? For me, I don't think so. Inverting any fullback would have backfired seriously against City and I think Arteta realized that when he picked his players and tactics. This is why I said he read the room perfectly today.

Inverting any full back with a double pivot would have overloaded the middle and left a glaring opening on the side we inverted and with City's crisp passing and quick transition, we would have suffered.

With the flat back 4 and a double 6 in front of them, we were able to restrict Grealish/ Bernado and when Foden came in, he had to invert into the middle, (see their first goal) because our fullbacks were quite discipline with/without the ball. This is why we did not need Martinelli nor Saka to do too much defensively.

One thing I have realized about Arteta and his defensive tactics is that he loves to play with 3 defenders at the back, irrespective of the combination and this is why he won't stop using White. When he plays Zinny and inverts him, we pretty much switch to a back 3 (White/ Gabu/ Saliba) with the ball while Zinny is roaming the middle.

You are 100% correct about this. Mine is why did Arteta not allow the FB to invert? I think it was an ingame decision seeing how Pep lined up.

I think that Arteta planned for Havertz to play 9 and Rice to play 8. I saw that early in the game. But he had to adjust and Rice settled in a double pivot.

I want to attribute this to Pep's masterclass tactics to nullify Arteta's plans. Pep tinkers a lot. I give it to him. He is the best no doubt.
