@sagamite
err, Central Abuja (maitama, wuse II, et al), lekki-ajah expressway, itam-uyo road, and a few other roads.

Those roads can compete with any road in the world?

Are you serious or you are trying to be funny?

The government should do something. Bad roads are some of the reasons why accidents occur on our roads on a daily basis.

Mate, believe me, there are third world countries that have better roads than our best roads. Places like Morroco, Botswana, Thailand, Indonesia etc.

As good as in you get in India, most likely yes.

As good as in you get in Brazil, most likely hell no.

As good as some parts of London, that is where I ask: "and so what"? Our best roads which are very very few are as good as the worst in London that has thousands of good roads.

The reality is that we have seriously sub-standard roads, and most of the few that are our best that some point to as good roads, will not be approved in a sane country. We accept them because the nation has incompetent officials and a sub-standard thinking mentality. "E don do, we don try" mentality.

@Lasino:

If u're a civil engineer, u'l be a quack. A straight road on a hill with steep slope  shocked, u must b kidin me.

The reason for the rigmarole or meanders in a layman's term is to reduce the effect of gravity.  tongue

Rather than stay on Nairaland and preach your so-called theoretical to me embarassed embarassed, how about you go watch National Geographic and see what "EXTREME ENGINEERING" is all about shocked shocked. I only made an inference based on what I've seen on numerous engineering feats of the modern age, why not go lay your claims to expert engineers who decide to use their brains to work and make something useful out of it? cheesy cheesy Then again, I rather be good on something I'm good at (Money) grin grin than to claim expertise YET you have no clue of your own modern engineering. embarassed embarassed embarassed Again, that's why I recommended that program for your types, as they call i, they a modern designs that defy all odds. grin grin grin

u r very right and thats the reality we have to deal with, even Rwanda and Gabon have better roads but we'll achieve nothing by posting pics nd insulting each other on NL, instead of having constructive discussions and criticisms to force our govt to adjust some of their silly policies. For instance, an individual or a private firm cannot repair or construct a road in his area without paying a certain amount to the govt.

On a lighter note:
Thailand and Maroc r not 3rd world nations, Botswana is light years ahead of most nations in Africa and Indonesia is about to invest $1bn in naija so no basis for comparison.

Strangely, Zimbabwe we insult so much has one of the best road systems in the whole of Africa. They surely put ours to shame by a long margin; its not just the roads, they also have very functional road maintenance and emergency services. If you break down in Zimbabwe, you can call a number and a truck will actually pull up with qualified mechanics to sort you out.

Alright. In Nigeria, you would most likely be accosted by area boys ready to beat the living daylights out of you if you don't settle them!

How did i missed this comedy central. I tot we had an engy as presido for 8yrs, he begged for third term and we stupidly refused and he withdrew all the good design he had and left us with the draft.

I've got to say even though @lasinoh is talking through its backside (coz i don't know whether its a guy/doll), the pictures don't lie. Most of the roads r hopeless and as someone mentioned earlier its criminal to think that we actually have LGA's in that country coz they ain't doing jack. Why is so difficult to build decent roads in naija, why!!!. I'll tell you why coz the people don't give a flying f**k whether they're ripped off or not, if they did they'll smash up the local councils and kick out the thugs who represent them as councilors, period.
