Nigerian international, Taiwo, has failed to live up to billings in the colour of AC Milan and he is contemplating a loan move.
FORMER Italian national team captain, Paolo Maldini, says the hierarchy at AC Milan is to blame for scouting a player of Taye Taiwo's calibre for the team.



However, Maldini, who was AC Milan captain, says the Nigerian should not have been signed on by the team in the first place.


''It says a lot when a player is a Nigerian, they are very talented and technical,'' Maldini told Il Corriere dello Sport when reminiscing on the encounter he had with Super Eagles at USA '94 World Cup when the Nigerian team almost sent Italy packing at the second round.


''He was also wanted by Real Madrid, so we thought we were landing the man we need. But I don't think Taiwo was watched over and over again. Milan did not do their homework well on him, he is not a worthy successor to me. He should have been better evaluated before taking him.''


Maldini who spent 24 years at San Siro, playing 647 appearances, charged AC Milan to cast its net wider for a suitable left back .


"Most left-backs now are converted midfielders, much more likely to attack."

Maldini retired two years ago and since then, AC Milan has yet to find a suitable replacement for him at the left back position.

the truth is naija players are not really top quality this days, so maldini is right, after all maldini was in milan when taribo west played there, so i guess he knows what he is saying.

I watched Taiwo this weekend and boy has he lost his confidence big time. You could see he was not willing to take risks or anything, as soon as he has the ball, he wants to get rid of it ASAP. Look I keep telling people that Taiwo is not good at defending, that was the first mistake AC Milan made, the boy is better off being a left wing back. Anyway I agree with Maldini, Taiwo is a big liability right now.

This is the same reason I tell most people that Echiejile is a better left back than Taiwo for the Super Eagles. Taiwo has his qualities no doubt but when you go forward and you cannot get back when it matters then there's a problem.

Yep. Taiwo does not get back quickly enough when he goes forward, and this penchant of his cost Nigeria a few goals (as I clearly remember even at the last African Nations Cup). I don't think this is news. The Nigerian dude in Inter Milan plays the same position and is better.

As a normal patriotic Nigerian i was hoping 4 the best when i heard we have signed Taye Taiwo but after watching every game he played this season i must confess he is far 4rm MILAN quality, even if he was my twin i will say the same tin, i beg to disagree with the guy who said he needs more time,am sure if u watched the game against Victoria Plzen ur view will change, any Defender Maldini condemns is condemned in heaven, LONG LIVE KING PAOLO!!!FORZA MILAN!!!
