The season Ronaldo re-joined Man U was the season Man City were seriously trying to get Harry Kane but Spurs board were not interested in selling. I believe Mendes, Ronaldo’s agent then used the opportunity to talk to one or two people in City (because that’s what agents do) then to get them to sign Ronaldo because he was serious about leaving Juve then, but the City board were not convince about signing Ronaldo for various reasons. Now, Man U got the information about his manager talking to some people in City, knew that he was available for sale and took the opportunity to sign him.

In Summary, City was never going to sign Ronaldo.

I know you’d still doubt everything I wrote here but lemme ask you:

Why do you choose to believe Ronaldo and why should I not believe Pep?

If City were serious about Ronaldo like they were about Kane, why didn’t they go all out to sign him?

Now if you say it’s because of loyalty that Ronaldo signed for Man U, why didn’t he show loyalty to Man U then when Madrid bid for him then?

Ronaldo is merely repeating the same information his PR agency has passed around just to keep his fan base happy and use it as a leverage to get a new club.

4. Everything he said about Man U is public knowledge, it’s not new. Rangnack said it, Mou said it, Alexis said it, the fans have raised issues even before the arrival of Ronaldo. Don’t make it seem like Ronaldo made a new discovery, when he only granted the interview because he was not getting to start in every match. If he was a regular starter, he wouldn’t have minded if Glazers stole all the revenues from the club.

The truth is there was some discussions between Mendes and people from City then.

That transfer season, City were only trying to get Harry Kane and since Spurs board were adamant on not selling him, Ronaldo’s agent offered him to City as replacement. They discussed but the board was not convinced, due to factors like age, wages, etc and more so even Pep Guardiola was not convinced about the transfer, just like Tuchel wasn’t convinced about signing him to Chelsea earlier in the summer.

So the discussion naturally crashed and since Man U knew his agent was trying to get him a club away from Juventus and he was discussing with City (again it’s not like City really wanted him), they decide to sign him instead.

Ronaldo is saying all these now just to increase his transfer value to get a new club. Same thing his late agent has always done. You know, if City wanted Ronaldo then he still has something to offer.

If Ronaldo was getting regular playing time, there won’t be that interview.

I think it's those that still believe the squad was good enough for anything, and expected ETH to do miracles with them. Maybe some fans of Ole, I can't remember. Rooney stayed. That's the point. No one's calling Rooney the greater player.

You'll see something as clear as daylight and still be arguing sideways. He went to Madrid and built records there. Rooney stayed at United and built Records here. While Ronaldo was winning titles for Madrid, Rooney was here giving us our last taste of success in the league.
