I don't see how Barkely can get into that midfield ahead of Rooney. Only Wilshere can if in his element, and because he plays differently. When Rooney bossed the midfield in Wembley FA cup semi final against Everton, where was Barkely? Earlier in the season, when we beat Everton 3-0 in the league, Rooney was in number 10 and scored. The thing is Sturridge is at his best as a striker. Playing both Kane and Sturridge won't help the team at all because when Sturridge isn't shooting on sight, he's contributing little in the creative department. That was why I stated in one of my post that Sturridge is just as useless as Sterling on the wing.
I don't blame Hodgson for sticking with Kane instead of Sturridge because Kane had a fantastic season while Sturridge was constantly ridden with injuries. There was even doubt about him before the Euros commenced.
However, he should have thought about their unproductive midfield when making the decision on who to play in the striker role. England don't have Erikson to open up play with his incisive passes.
Eventhough Kane's linkup & holdup play are quite good (he's been disappointing in this aspect though), he's not a player who will run at defence, which is what England needs.
As per Sterling, I think his best performance has always been in a second striker role or as an inverted forward who drift inside to crete space or shoot at goal. It's sacrilege to heap on him the creative burden when he doesn't have the spectacular vision nor intelligence to operate as one.
His best attribute apart from pace is his off the ball movement to often create space enough to linkup the final pass or get into goal scoring position although his finishing is quite shite. This take us back to his performance as a second striker against us while he was still at Liverpool. His movement was good and his pace was threatening however he was rubbish infront of goal despite the countless of opportunities he had. He's quite similar to Walcott although he's more technical than him.
Furthermore, Sterling's best performance for England has always been in the second striker role. It's unfortunate for him that England operate a 3-man midfield system nor have a creative player to pick his runs on the wing.

All the big teams are looking so unimpressive in this tourny.
Only Croatia has been good for me. Italy was tactically sound but has little talent overall to impact the game apart from Bonucci.

Kane= cannot carve out a chance from nothing. Cannot do it by himself. But will score when the opportunity comes.

Vardy = Like Kane, cannot carve out a chance himself, but can out pace the last marker. And will score when gifted opportunity.

Sturridge= Can create a chance for himself, can beat a defender and can be a world class in few minutes and become useless the next minutes. Injury prone. However, he is my favourite if England were to play one striker. He also has more experience.

I wonder why some people rate Okocha. Dude was just an entertainer, nothing more. A very unserious player who goes into the pitch just to enjoy himself... Whether his team lose or not, e no concern am, as far as he did planty tricks. No wonder top clubs never looked his way.
