Purist: Funny thing is, the stats paint a completely different picture. United had more of the ball and had a higher pass completion rate. city had already conceded possession by then and there was nothing else for them to play for as they were coasting 4-0. that was when some rëtardos thought rooney was having a blinder of a game when he actually was stinking the whole joint. moyes has no blame in this.... he named a very strong team. our biggest weakness today was the lack of understanding between smalling & valencia. valencia allowed city to overload smalling with 2 v 1. he gave smalling no protection at all. it's not the end of the world. the fixtures could have been kinder & our next 5 games before arsenal are easy. i expect 15/15 or 13/15(worst case scenario). by then, the mediocre teams occupying the top spots would have gotten their own baptism of fire. the only reason arsenal/spurs are on top is because of their easier run of games, not because of their abilities. |

Valencia was so naive today it wasn't funny. Strangely so cos he is usually so in tune with his defensive responsibilities. Only good thing i can say for Young is that he offered Evra more protection. Ferdinand was slow to react and looked off pace throughout,3 matches in a week is one match too many for the old boy esp when the 3rd is against heavy hitters like City.Hope Moyes learned that lesson. H e should have been rested midweek. Vidic and Evra weren't too poor. Carrick and Fellaini were competing for the crown of mediocrity and although Fellaini was poor i think Carrick was more disappointing considering his talents. Welbeck and Rooney had little service from the midfield and struggled for most of the match.HOWEVER Rooney was the only one that looked like his drink wasn't spiked with Valium,he TRIED to compete unlike the others. The Asinine Young issue has been overflogged and i foresee a long spell on the bench for Quasimodo |

sir.law:Lollz.. By vultures I meant the scavengers that were ready to feast on United's defeat, not referring to United fans PS: I didn't even mean it as an insult, just a behavioral descriptive term Sir |

young & evra got their own side of the pitch tight. zabaleta is city's secret weapon but he rarely got a sniff today. smalling/valencia were like little lambs out there for nasri/kolarov. i don't even think valencia possesses any form of intelligence. this tactical approach is what rafael/himself used to destroy city & chelsea last season in the first half of the season & yet he got sold on the same old trick. |

@Debozzie Since when did your happiness stop depending on football? But really, you can force a horse to the river but you can't force it to drink. What more could Moyes do? Therez no one to say he didn't try to stir them up during the half time break; I mean, he produced the Leverkusen performance using the very same players, didn't he? The way the guys played today, I doubt that even Fergie's famous hair dryer treatment woulda had any impact. Those dudes were drugged or jazzed or both. I suspect A-40 for the drugging. . .probably happened during the trip to Etihad sir.law: Hey, we're not all razz here. . .(not all the time anyway). Just part of the fun. I believe Sailor was just teasing. Just know who to avoid and who to exchange ideas/opinions with and you'll find the fun we share in here, I assure you. |

StarBoard: Coogar and RuuDie, but we lost twice to the title rivals away from home. if city & liverpool had come to old trafford as well, beating them would have been our least expectation too. fergie could have taken the team there this season and lose too. our european double winning team of 07/08 lost to sven eriksson's city team. moyes couldn't have done more than he did - his strikers let him down. yaya toure did nothing spectacular... fellaini didn't have a good game but neither did toure. the players who got ate alive were smalling/valencia. all city's goals came from crosses into the box - yaya toure had nothing to do with those. |

coogar: young & evra got their own side of the pitch tight. zabaleta is city's secret weapon but he rarely got a sniff today. smalling/valencia were like little lambs out there for nasri/kolarov. @ coogar The whole team should be castigated. I saw vidic Evra and rooney on the pitch, the rest were having a hangover of burukutu drink. Don't even go near that your little pet that is slightly better than bebe and djemba djemba ----- Young. I have stopped blaming the guy really, he can't play more than the ability of his brain (except he wants to run mad). |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 9:54pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
superstar1: young is an easy target. when there's a poor general performance, united fans look for a scapegoat and blame the entire performance on him. did young play any worse than valencia, rio and welbeck today? |

Pataki: Moyes never won a derby at Liverpool for 11 straight years! In your rush to celebrate you just made a huge blunder. Moyes' Everton beat Liverpool v3-0 2006/7. Unless Liverpool isn't part of the derby you are talking about. |

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 10:03pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
Young was very poor today but so were many other players on the pitch. I would rate Valencia worse because of his direct contribution to the goal that started the onslaught,at least Young kept his defensive shape most times. However the chronic nature of Young's malaise is why most United fans are tired of him. @Coogar it was not objective of you to single out Rooney (the only one who seemed to care about the match) for criticism when it was a team wide problem.Valencia,Carrick,Fellaini etc were having major problems competing yet you singled out Rooney.......just the way others singled out Young |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by superstar1(m): 10:05pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
coogar: Young made himself the easy target due to perpetual mediocre performance. If he had given us a virtuoso performance today, he would definitely have been exempted from the tirades against the whole team. |

dayokanu: Meanwhile Ballotelli missed his first penalty vs Napoli reina simply waited for him to kick before diving. i dunno why no one figured this out yet. cech didn't move for cristiano in moscow too and he saved ronaldo's kick easily. afrodoc: Young was very poor today but so were many other players on the pitch. I would rate Valencia worse because of his direct contribution to the goal that started the onslaught,at least Young kept his defensive shape most times. However the chronic nature of Young's malaise is why most United fans are tired of him. the truth is finally out.... young worked the spaces left today. when he got the ball from the wide, he had nothing to aim at. this is why rooney leading the line worries me. he's never in the box to be the attack focus and he makes zero movements. valencia is a toad! the less said about him, the better. he didn't beat kolarov throughout the match. all he did was to escort him to get the cross to aguero's first goal. look at this & tell me one reason valencia stopped tracking his man....
apologies for singling out the highest wage drawer in our team for a disgraceful performance. to whom much is given, i expect heaven & earth. why won't i single rooney out? rooney even lacked the tact to stand off kompany and leave a gaping hole in city's defence. messi was only 22 when he did the same against rio/vidic in the 2009 final in rome. |

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 10:24pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
superstar1: perpetual mediocre performance? he hardly featured last season because of injuries. he was outstanding in his first season by our own high standards if i may hard. things haven't really clicked this season but I thought he played well at anfield & the crystal palace game. the whole team gave a poor performance today. rio should start thinking of his retirement plans. time to push evans/smalling in the middle & bring rafael back. he was sorely missed today. |

RuuDie:Dream on. I'm guessing you didn't see how we struggled vs Crystal Palace and couldn't score till they were controversially reduced to 10 men.Even then we were clueless. Expecting us to beat some of these plucky sides is a stretch, rest assured because the EPL isn't that easy anymore. Furthermore you think City and co wouldn't worry about those sides too? We should be worried about making the top four given Gollum's Everton mentality. Spurs and Arsenal look formidable. City and Chelsea will be there and about. Don't see how you think we can retain this title we won so easily last time around, aside from just being optimistic. The earlier we realize we are in a transitional phase, the better for us. This phase should also include identifying crappy players and replacing them with quality Ines. Sunderland just fired Di Canio. I wish we could get rid if this small-minded snot-nosed punk of a manager |

coogar: Rooney is highest paid and he was our best performer on the day,so there should be no problem. I assume Asinine Young gets paid too even if its a plate of ewa agoyin....so why does he perform like he is working for free? ditto valencia and carrick and rio today.is any of them working pro bono? Rooney is not Messi, nobody is.there are very few people in the history of the Hominidae who are as accomplished at what they do as Messi is. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 10:36pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
StarBoard: no 2 seasons are the same.... ruudie is quite right. if we batter the smaller teams home & away like we have done swansea & palace then we would replicate 08/09 season. the mini-league hardly matters anymore - if we can beat the minnows then we should be fine. like i said earlier, the next 5 games should be comfortable for us. let's see where we get by the time we face arsenal. afrodoc: this is my problem with statements like this one. i could score 80 marks in JAMB and be the best performer in my village. the question is how did rooney fare in comparison to aguero & negredo? they don't make as much as rooney but you could see the gulf in class between the city strikers and rooney. you know it's over for rooney when ordinary nasri outperformed rooney:
young did not perform worse or less than expected. i expected him to get the ball from wide areas, work the angles with evra & deliver crosses into the box. all the time this happened, there was no united shirt in the box to aim at. all i saw was rooney running out of the box towards the ball instead of making himself available to receive crosses & push kompany & nastastic back towards city's net.
rooney isn't messi but he gets paid like messi. so why shouldn't we compare them? if saint obi gets paid like brad pitt, would you not expect excellent acting performance from him? |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 10:41pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
Had Cleverley not introduced and Fellaini pushed forward, City could ave hit seven. That singular move brought some fear into City and reduced their midfield dominance. If Jones had played in the midfield today I am sure City chances would have been reduced. Even if he had played in the right back, it would have gone a long way. Jones doesn't allow you turning him around as they did to our back men today, particularly Smalling. Smalling had a magnificent game against Leverkusen but he was rubbished on the 'ground battle' today. Fellaini became too soft and unnecessarily slow. ...... Just as I thought we have got a rugged man with a good football sense. Hope we won't cry for more midfielders by January. I won't like that at all. |

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 10:55pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
coogar: Young was abysmal going forward. i have already posted his passing stats going forward and compared to our other attacking players. Asinine Young ended the match with 60 percent passing accuracy ( 62 percent in 1st half) welbeck had 93%, Valencia had 84% and Rooney had 74 %. with players like asinine young who keep giving the ball away to the opponents who needs enemies? |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 10:58pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
coogar:Boss. This is actually our worst start after 5 games. I am yet to see us winning the title starting like this in the past. Correct me if I'm wrong. You have to agree that 1 point out of 9 vs title rivals and losing two out of three away games can be improved upon. coogar:Nobody is saying we couldn't have lost under Fergie. But so far we haven't impressed this season and gollum is retrogressing United and taking away our fear factor. Strikers? Like Javier Hernandez who has hardly been given a chance? Or forward players like the Nani you openly canvassed for who I being placed I the icebox and given limited opportunities to prove me wrong. Or Kagawa who we all saw at Dortmund as extra special but isn't good enough suddenly to start games like the Manchester Derbyor the Chelsea game. Moyes is a blockhead, i swear. coogar:Pretty one-sided account. Fellaini lost his marker due to his lead-footedness on at least two occasions that led to those players he couldn't track making telling contributions in the build up to City goals. City's second had Fellaini leaving Toure to contest for an aerial ball which he didn't win only fr Toure to score. Yeah Toure did nothing special aside from score in the man chester derby.Must be quite common even though mediocre Ashley Young hasn't managed that feat. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 11:09pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
Ashley Young 2 crosses 0 accurate cross 0 long ball of course 0 accurate long ball 0 total through ball 0 accurate through ball. his stat sheet reads like a binary code |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 11:10pm On Sep 22, 2013 |
afrodoc: don't pay attention to figures necessarily unless you know which area of the pitch those passes were made. in that first half, young was the only one trying to force the issue unlike welbeck whose passing were near the half-way line. rooney was even worse and valencia kept it along the touch line instead of veering towards city's goal.
