Please house I'm contemplating between 2 things.

I have a few tbills running in my bank and I have a target of attaining up to 20M with the idea of getting 2M yearly @10%.

I also have a life assurance running although I'll say I regret delving into it cos the roi after 15yrs isn't worth it but my account officer practically opened up to me today that he'll prefer I do annuity for life as it pays more than the current policy I'm dealing with.

Here you determine how much you want to be paid for life after 50yrs. For eg, I told him I'll love to earn 500k monthly from 50yrs and he calculated approximately 1.5M yearly to be paid so that as soon as I clock 50,I'll be earning 500 monthly which is 6M yearly. Although I'm 32, I'll have to pay this sum for 18yrs which he explained it's a deferred payment since I'm not 50yet

Question is...... Is it a good idea to do this or is there anyone knowledgeable enough to throw more light into this? Cos it may look better than tbills but??
what would be the value of 500k in 18years from now?

You can compound the money in bond for 18years at 15% that will give you 113,754,536.05 at the end of 18yrs. And at 50years you easy make 1,137,545.36 monthly at 12% while you still maintain your original capital.

I don't know how bond works. Maybe you can throw in more light.

The 113'754'536.05 you mentioned, is it payable just once?

I = ( P * R * T ) / 365*100 = 250,000 * 10 * 200 / 36500 = 500000000/36500 = 13,698.63

P = Principal

R = Rate

T = Tenor

I = Interest

Discounted Amount (DA) = P - I = 250,000 - 13,698.63 = 236,301.37 (excluding charges)

500k will not give you the said amount in 18yrs.

The OP said he has 1.5m to invest yearly, that is about 125k monthly. If he put 125k at 15% into bond every month and compound the interest. At the end of 18yrs he should have 136,327,814.96 in is portfolio. If he decides to stop compounding and just want to live solely on the interest even at 12% he should get about
1,363,278 monthly plus he still has the original capital

1. Inflation/hyperinflation

2. Secession (Biafra, Oduduwa Republic, Arewa Republic).

These risks shouldn't deter anyone from investing on a long-term (when there is a smooth and easy liquidation process). Any 20-year investment that forbids liquidation is a big NO for me in a visionless nation like Nigeria. Better to invest and compound quarterly, binnaually or yearly at your own pace and have full control over your money.

Aiico
My late dad did life insurance with aiico, when it was time to pay the agreed sum. aiico started coming up with stories. we should provide this document and that document, we did all that.

Then the koko. They claimed that the money was not paid as frequent as was agreed, yes he missed some months payment but he ensured he met the yearly quota.

In the end we got something out of them but it was beyond the mark that the life insurance was for like 250k shy of the agreed sum

Like tritri says, no go put hope for Naija coy 18yrs. Its a risky move!

Nigeria central bank springs unscheduled T-bill auction as naira weakens
Chijioke Ohuocha

LAGOS, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Nigeria’s central bank offered 100 billion naira ($326 mln) of treasury bills on Wednesday, in its first such auction since mid-July as it seeks to boost dollar liquidity in the currency market after the naira fell, traders said.

The OMO bills were offered in maturities of three, six and 12 months and result are due later in the day, they said.

“It is a surprise auction. I don’t know why they are floating it without prior announcement,” one trader said. “This one-off might not help dollar liquidity unless they become consistent in the offering.”

Pressure has been building on the naira as oil prices drop and foreign investors book profits on local bonds in response to falling yields.

At the central bank’s last, 75 billion naira T-bill auction on July 18, one-year paper was sold at 12.25% compared with as high as 18% a year ago.

Forex trading was thin on Wednesday. The naira was quoted at 363.50 per dollar on Monday and Tuesday compared with 362.50 at the end of last week as foreign investors repatriated funds, they said.

The bank was conducting regular weekly OMO auctions until July, when it switched focus to trying to boost economic output following recession by telling banks to lend more or face a rise in minimum reserve requirements.

Nigeria operates a multiple exchange rate regime which it has used to manage pressure on the currency. The official rate of 306.90 is supported by the central bank but the traded rate of 363.50 is the one widely quoted by foreign investors and exporters.
