Bear in mind though, that there's no set formula. You have to find what you're passionate about and make a killing off it by being excellent.

I think it’s one of the skilled jobs you can get visa for here. And pay is between 60k and 120k per year.

How easy it is for foreign trained guys to get job is what I don’t know, though the guy who works next door to me is Middle Eastern or so.

Don’t have hard facts on this. Nihilist, Ibime, Chic2pimp, Dayo should have more info.

I do know though that UK is probably at the lower end of cost while Aus will be at the higher end.

I heard they're bringing back post study visa...if That's true, then UK is a no brainer

Which country among US. Cad, Aus or UK is easier and cheaper to do Masters? Management Accounting preferable.

cc afrodoc, nihilistjnr, raudmueter

Why would you do Masters in Management Accounting?

Your chartership is what counts in Accounting and if you are to top up with Masters do so in MBA, MSc in Finance or CFA. Masters in Accounting is almost redundant.

That said, if you wish to get a Masters in Accounting, you are best going through the Oxford Brooks route while simultaneously pursuing ACCA. For less than N1.5m, you can gain ACCA chartership, with BSc and Masters from Oxford Brookes. I am currently sponsoring a mentee in Nigeria through Oxford Brooks route. He is currently writing his thesis at BSc stage.

Omo na the new oil be that o. I'm thinking of taking a few BI certifications, and maybe even go as far as doing a course in statistical analysis and coding in R or python. That should be right up your street actually.

Demand for Analytics is rising through the roof...and there's relatively little supply as far as i can see.

Thanks, so R and Python is the way to go? I don dey use Cognos since, thinking to learn the development side of Cognos to add another string to the bow. How much can you earn on the R or Python side of big data?

Can you do me a favour, please?
Ask him some questions, like where he was trained, the length of his training and how he managed to land a job in Oz.

of a truth, i think Bloomberg tagged Data Science the sexiest job now. People are learning how to code with R and Python nowadays than other languages.

If you like have PHD in Accounting, you won't be able to practice in any country that makes sense without Chartership.

I have a Spanish guy in my team whose BSc in Spain qualified him to practice there, but when he moved here, he had to start Chartership from scratch.

I would assume you are on ICAN path? If so, your first step should be conversion to ACCA. I doubt CIMA and ACA would give you as much starting credits as ACCA cos from what I heard ICAN is almost modelled after ACCA.

I've got so many plans, just afraid of the delay in Nigeria.. Can you recommend a good school in the u.k for me, cost effective too(including accommodation). I'll put this masters thought on hold

To be honest, from what I've seen..on it's own, not much on the perm side - 40-80k

But you and I know it's on the contract side that the money is at. Top London rates in that field are around 650-750 a day..especially with financial experience.

Very, very serious.
Serious enough that I have even scouted out the school to get my BSc from, and the sites to start studying towards the main entry level certifications like CEH and CompTIA Security+ from.
CISSP needs a certain amount of experience as an IT Pro, or I'd have gone for it from the start.

I don't have a strong accounting background, I did science in my waec... Maths, physics chemistry and biology.. The only course I was actually interested in is medicine.. But man was average in biology, was never interested.. But I was good in maths and economics, I didn't even study accountancy in the uni.. Someone said it might affect me later, now I'm confused..

Don't waste your money on CEH. You're nowhere near ready to do that course straight from security+

More than half the coursework is Linux based....

I advise you get a copy of Kali first and learn the distro. Then learn networking up to NA level. Do an mcda or two.

then comeback to CEH.

Contracting na the way to go on any field but perm wages is the best way to judge long-term prospects when committing to a new learning process. What guarantee is there that by the time one qualifies, contracting roles will still be abundant and at that day rate? Generally, statisticians have always been poorly paid but I think say the developer angle go improve things somewhat. There are many data analysts and Econometricians earning 20k-30k in London who will flood the developer field if a premium is added for them adding Python to their current skills, and they will drag that rate down oh. On BI angle, from what I heard, Cognos Developers seem to start at 80k which seems to hold more prospects.

Not just the Chelsea thread.

Despite the numerous banters, I believe the European football section offers more than just football knowledge to those who follow the section closely. Most of the regular posters in this section are knowledgeable, experienced and intelligent minds who often provide guidance and advice on different topics, particularly career focused topics.

You just beat me to saying this.
Lots of experienced and knowledgeable folks who are willing to offer helping hands to those coming behind them with their vast array of knowledge. It's quite refreshing, seeing what Nairaland generally as degenerated to.

Most accountants don't study accounting in Uni. They do a chartership after uni to become accountants. Even the ones that studied accounting still have to do chartership to become accountants, so I don't see that you are behind anyone if that is your chosen route.
