How do you cope and manage with your breast after delivery. Had my baby on Tuesday and baby's jaw is not strong yet to suck very well. I couldn't sleep last night as my breasts were as heavy as big stones were loaded inside. Very heavy and painful too. Please is there anything I can take to manage it?

Hey dear, to get relief while baby is still learning to latch.. Hand express or use a breast pump if you have one and feed the baby. Dont throw it out ooo, that's the colostrum

Giddyperson:

That Johnsons is not a nice soap at all. You can try the Johnsons that comes in pink pack or sebamed baby soap, its really good.

Shea butter should be ok.

The pink johnsons is the best. It's what I've been using for ilan since birth

As advised, try to express it n give to baby using spoon, bottle or syringe. If its plenty, store the remaining in fridge or freezer.
Try putting him to breast too. He'll catch up with time. Check your nipple to if its not flat, this can sometimes discourage baby from sucking. if it is oga the pump will help too.

Don't be discouraged, keep trying. He would soon get the hang of it. You can also massage the breast with hot water to feel a lil relieve.

Jaw is not strong ké?
Their jaw was born strong, in fact the ability to latch on tight from birth is always used to check their reflex.
Keep putting baby to breast so he doesn't favor bottle more but for the time being please express it out so you can get some relief (you may keep it if you wish but note that you should take great care with it not to get contaminated)
You can use a manual pump
Clean the ducts.
Massage the boobs

Mama, please continue to put baby to breast. After my CS, I was in pain and I couldn't put baby to breast for 2days. My boob's were engorged and painful. On day 3, baby couldn't latch well cos I couldn't hold him properly cos of my stitiches. My breast was full and hubby squeezed enough milk out with his hands cos we forgot the breast pump at home. Not putting baby to breast when I just had him affected my milk production, uptil now baby takes SMA gold 1 cos my breast milk doesn't hold him. My baby eats alot, he has switched to big bottle and he's just 8weeks+

Get a good breast pump to express milk for baby. If you can get fenugreek seed, boil a teaspoon first thing in d morning and drink. Take enough by pap and liquid milk.

Teamie wear a properly fitted maternity bra all through, sleep with it self. Don't pump or express. It will only cause more production.you're

Take pain relief so you don't have fever. Just manage, it will soon be over. I went though same thing but mine has already regulated.

I'm doing exclusive sha, don't know if above advice will work if baby's taking formuler.

Did you advice be not to pump or Express? Hmmmm

Pearl05, if you're in pain, massage your breast with towel dipped in warm water, Express and dump or Express and store in the freezer ONLY IF YOU HAVE STABLE POWER SUPPLY!

She needs to pump to imitate sucking so that she will continue to produce milk or else her milk production may reduce or totally cease sef.

We all produce milk differently.
For example, I produce milk a lot in the first 2-3 weeks and by 4th week it can hardly fill my baby unless I eat heavily. By the 6th month, within 5 minutes, baby has emptied the boobs.
If I tried this your style, it means by the time baby is ready for the breast, nothing will happen.

You're lucky that it worked for you, what you did is what most moms do when they are weaning their babies off breastmilk

Powder is not advisable to use on babies especially newborn
The boots powder I've is the one I bought for my daughter since 2016 and I just opened it yesterday.

Whether you pump or not,it gets to a certain time the body regulates the production of milk, maybe that's how it worked. However, not pumping or breastfeeding can cause an infection.

Okay ma. It was put on my hospital list, so I won't be embarrassed when the time comes that's why I'm asking. Although I've been educated here that powder isn't good for new born, but as I want to buy jimpo ori and boots/cusson soap, I wanted to know which powder I can buy alongside.

What soap do you use on him?

I used fivicid cream(I avoided him sweating when he is asleep) and baby boot soap when I battled with some stubborn rashes as a result of cusson soap I was using on him.
