please my follow gurus in the house i need your help on this issue i have in mind and is been troubling me..I studied one semester in turkish republic of Northern cyprus and i the school system there was bullshit and no work and also was a racist country so i applied for minot state university in usa and am expecting my letter and my 1-20 form.my problem is that i have a racedent permit and is two years racedent permit in cyprus if i am going to the enbassy for my f1 visa if the counseler ask me about it what exactly am i gonna tell him....please help is needed
Hi Guy, as for your question. Please, honesty is what you need. Simply tell the visa consular the truth about your resident status if you are asked. (They could have some information about you without your knowledge, its North Cyprus not Nigeria) Are you going for fall 2012? If Yes! You need to get your I-20 & get ready for your interview as quick as possible so as to resume early for studies. North Darkota is a nice, cold & friendly place, hope you enjoy your stay there & i wish you the best in your future endeavours. (DON'T CROSS OVER TO CANADA, LOL!!!) Peace.

Salute to all in the house, I was directed to study these webpages before my interview and tried to do so. Glory be to God as I got the Visa. Below is an outline of the interview as much as I can remember (it was on July 25)

VO: What are you studying in US?
Me: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Masters.
VO: Why Electrical?
Me: That is what I studied for my first degree and am looking at going deeper in the course, specialing in ... (told him what I want to specialise in and how it will impact on Nigeria,Note that I mentioned Nigeria wella)
VO: What do you do?
Me: I work as a Bleep Engineer and I handle repairs on ... (The fact that one has a good employment makes them look at you with respect, felt that sha, so ensure you speak in a way to make them feel you know and enjoy what you do)
VO: How do you know about YYY(the school)?
Me: A professor from the school came for a seminar at my University while I was still there . . .(Told him how I networked with a Prof at the school and then got more info from the internet, this question gave me more edge as I have a communication relationship with a prof there)
VO: How will you be funding your study?
Me: I have a graduate assistantship (GA) . . . (Told him more about the GA, how it will help my goal in relation to Nigeria and that the little money remaining that the GA didn't cover will be from my account. Of course, having a scholarship should make getting your VISA easy if you speak about it to your advantage)
VO: Do you have a letter for the GA?
Me: Searched for it and gave it to him, he read it very well. Typed some things (Guessed its the name of the professor that recommended me for the GA, during this time na prayer for mind o). I then told him the GA thingy was also stated on the I-20, he said he knew.
VO: Is that the only school you applied for?
Me: No. I also applied for ...(Just mentioned some of the schools, didn't add whether I had admission or not as I didn't want to deviate from the main thingy since its VISA to YYY)
VO: You can pick up your VISA on Monday, tore the green "trophy" for me and also gave me the authorized collection by proxy form (Wow, glory be to God)

Funny enough, didn't check GRE result, the Test of English result I had, account statement, payslip, transcript, certificate and other things I packed along in case of "incacity".
BABA GOD NONI, THANK YOU JESUS

That's pretty low for graduate studies. Why don't he go for a top-up? Well he can try his luck cos there r some graduate schools that admitt irrespective of your grade but he has to write an essay and promise to be of good performance academically when admitted

Most universities would accept him into the top-up which is just 1yr then he gets a Bsc... Regarding the graduate studies, he could try applying into private schools in the US cos they are more likely to acccept him into a masters programme unlike the public schools with strict admissions. Google is a way of getting schools. Try this link then click on the state of ur choice for schools in it. Best of luck..... http://dir.yahoo.com/Regional/U_S__States/Iowa/Education/College_and_University/Private/

First step is searching for a schools in your field of interest then contact the schools. You can always get their email from their website. Then you can always come back here to make other enquiries from there.. Google is a good means

hi guy(s), if you will be applying from Nigeria, your best option is to get another passport, why? Cos the visa consular would likely ask you questions regarding your mission in North Cyprus which could reduce your chances of getting a F-1 Visa as it creates a doubt about your "genuine" intentions about studying in the US. When asked if you travelled before (@ least to North Cyprus), your answer should be "NO" or else ... .... .... ... ...... Hope its clear! If not, let me know. Sure have a great day. Peace.

hi guy(s), Yes, it is very possible with a 2nd class upper (2nd class lower & on few cases, 3rd class, but some institutions may require 1-2years pre-masters program before admitting into the masters program itself). Moreover, you can help him research on various institutions with his area of interests using google. Hope he gets what he is looking for! Peace.

hi guy(s), u got me there! But on a second thought, i think that's a good idea but it may be too late for fall 2012, cos i think he applied as a Freshman Undergraduate. Guess, you would have to defer your admission till spring 2013 by applying as a transfer student as my guy sugguested, i think it is a better option. Thanks guy for the correction & better option. Hope this works! Peace.

Right. Thats what he needs to do. Many US schools have a minimum GPA of 3 on a 4 point scale(that is 3.75 on a 5-point scale) for masters in engineering. With topping up, he would get a US B.Sc degree and also apply for masters immediately in the same school. Cheers.
