Enlightened1: @justwise and Vicjustice!! I've got a quick question. What is my chances of getting US visit visa. I applied for a conferences which is coming up on Nov. My passport is a virgin PP. My. Interview is in OCT24. I've got all the required documentation. Like letter of Employment, sponsor letter and bank statement, my bank statement and payslip, tax clearance. Between sponsor for the trip is my pops, he owns the coy!., between I've been refused UK visa 2 times. Please what are my chances? I know I have to prove to the CO beyond every reasonable doubt strong ties to my country, and also demonstrate the benefit of the trip to me and sponsor. I am littled worried because of what I heard about the US visa interview, you get denied without the co looking at your documents. Please shed more light on this, between I will let the forum know how my interview panned out!!

Na those 2 dey issue visa nii?

Firstly, should one change the naira to dollar in nigeria before going to cotonou or get there & change it probably @ ecobank? Secondly, how far is it from Iyana Iba? Lastly, direction from iyana iba to cotonou (ecobank)? Thanks a lot. Wishing All Prospective Spring Students The Very Best. STAY BLESSED.

VO-So who's sponsoring Ur trip? Me-my brother. VO-what does he do? Me-works as network security engineer for oil & gas in houston. VO-so ur brother stays in houston? Me-Yes. VO-so wat level of education are u pursuing in the US? Me-post Secondary. VO-have u completed a secondary education here in nigeria? Me-Yes. Vo-So y u going for anoda secondary education? Me-its not a secondary education as the school is an institiute. VO-shows me my I-20 nd said its written there that the level of education printed there that am gon pursue in the US is secondary. Me-badly confused on wat to say to tackle the guy. VO-started typing for few minutes and later Am sorry u not qualified @ds moment etc that's was how he its went. biofem2000:
Ovap, here`s what I think about standardized test requirements/preference. Your school sets the rules. If your school says its a requirement, then it is a must that you have it. If its a preference, it is a matter of choice. If it is neither a requirement nor preference, you have no business with it. Like someone said, these are Americans. Yes, so am I and a whole lot of us. Being an American does not make you a small god. You need to be able to defend yourself when someone question your choice. If someone askes you " Why didn`t you take GRE?", if it is not a requirement, the answer should simple be my course of study does not require that I take GRE. Simple. That is the simple truth. If you`re asked "Why didn`t you take TOEFL? The answer should be "Since the language of instruction for my undergrad studies is English, I am not requred to take a test of English". Again, simple. For the sake of all that is holy, aren`t we speaking English? ( Oh well I know we`re not writing English).
I think it is high time we let "people" know what we are made of and wht we can do. Why take TOEFL if it is not required? Why let someone question your ability to speak a language you were not taught? To many of us, English is like a second mother tongue. We didn`t learn it, we simply started speaking it. We need to actively stop giving the impression that we can only speak in monkey. If you need a TOEFL waiver, write an impressive statement of purpose. Simple. If you`re asked why you got a waiver, tell the VO your statement of purpose was from out of this world. Oh, shhhhh don`t tell the VO I said this but I bet he/she will not pass the TOEFL.

My suggestion is go for your interview with confidence knowing you have done all that is required of you. The VO does not expect you to go above and beyond what the school expect of you. You have satisfied the school requirement, there is nothing like the VO requirement. These are people who have been trained to do what they do; they do not expect you to be a genius. For all you know the person interviewing you may be a 26 year old with nothing more than a high school diploma (Ha ha ha... here goes the American) and guess what? Because he sees the fear in you, he capitalises on your vulnerability and squeezez life out of you for the 3 mins you are in front of him/her. Take charge. Be confident. The VO is American, You are Nigerian.

I wish you luck!

Imperioxx...You should be the president of this group of NairaLanders. I love the way you answer questions and give advices. You are an interlect. God bless u....Cheers

They just don't relate with ur course. Also I remmeber ur age is way above undergraduate studies.... sorry about ur denial you can always give it another shot but theres a whole lot of adjustment u'll need to make. Before going for ur interview u ought to have stated on this thread how u were preparing. Going through the school website, it doesnt even look like a community college let alone a university They offer just English language in the school.
1. Get a different school(a university)
2. Try getting a different sponsor( you could ask ur brother to transfer the fund into ur account then appply as your own sponsor)
3. Your intended course should be related to what you're presently doing
4. Take toefl even if its not part of the schools requirments(it boosts ur chances of getting the visa)
5. Be prepared to let the V.O know why u choose the university

others in the house will contribute too wish u best of luck

It may be sad but if I'm to advice him before embarking on such trip, I will say don't do it. I do tell people like that sometimes. Your record matters at the embassy, don't just f u c k it.

I modified my post before getting this.

My advice to people like you is always don't do it now. Wait till you are mature for US schooling. Your record matters at the embassy, don't f u c k it. That's why the VO said you're not qualify for it now. You see those coming for high school here is either their father is a minister, senator, expatriate or were born in US before. If your father don't fall in this category of people, just wait till you can prove yourself worthy of shaping your path yourself.
