The political process does not end on the election day, the youths need to stay involve in process, and hold their leaders and representatives accountable for any decisions they make, The people of delta state and most especially Bomadi LGA should vote for the right candidate and not the party, gone are those days where political parties all in the name of ruling party will project any body and for the sake of the party everyone will just vote for him…

it is time for the youths and good people of delta state mostly Bomadi local government area, to vote wisely, they should look very well, go through profiles, make sure he/she has the connection with the people, who has the people progress and development at heart, he/she who know their wants and needs, and someone who they can access after assuming office. Ending The herdsmen killings in Nigeria by Bello Shuaibu

Firstly I’d love to say the lives of a million or more cows is not worth that of a human life but then Who are those responsible for the killings? I’ve asked some questions and from the information I gathered it is believed that those responsible are the “Fulanis’ whose primary occupation is raising livestock while others believe the killings is politically based but then many also say it’s the boko haram group disguising themselves as Fulani herdsmen to tarnish the image of the current administration.

In some circles (both offline and online) discourses have tended to draw on hidden motives about this whole episode. Some blame the West for planning to destabilize Nigeria. Others believe it is the work of Nigeria's President Muhammad Buhari political rivals- the neo-colonial elite, who many believe to be corrupt and power hungry. Another school of thought suggests that the killer herdsmen has a bigger plan, and the killing incident is merely a distraction to unleash a greater terror. Yet others have concluded that they are not Fulanis, but rather is a politicized and constructed/deliberate conspiracy theory. Whatever conclusion is reached, it is glaringly obvious that Nigeria can no longer adopt the same reactive stance toward this terrorist group.

There have been other disturbing incidents immediately following the hundreds killed already in Benue state and other states like Yola, home state to former Nigeria Vice President Atiku Abubakar . One of these is the clash between the herdsmen and farmers in Minda, Lau local government area of Taraba state. Due to the inadequacy of state responses to this crisis, citizens are now stepping in to take the law into their hands.

Over 3,000 lives have been lost with numerous casualties recorded, and more than 2000 children are out of school for fear of losing their lives. There are thousands of other citizens, displaced and homeless.
It is becoming irrelevant also whether one is a Muslim, a Christian, a Traditionalist or an Atheist, the killer herdsmen strikes anyone considered the enemy, or anyone unfortunate enough to be present when the group decides to strike.

The Nigerian government has continuously demonstrated a lack of capacity to curtail and contain violent uprisings. This is not for a lack of solutions but perhaps a lack of foresight. What we continue to see instead is the polarization and politicization of events like these attacks.
Now is the time to start sending surveillance planes, establish ranches in line with modern practice in civilized countries. With ranches, the livestock would be healthier, more productive, while the herdsmen would avoid unnecessary attacks and would also be able to give their children opportunity to be educated.

It will be best also to stop cattle rearers from roaming the streets which most often causess road accidents and panic in most cases, but rather the government should ensure that the owners will henceforth take responsibility of their livestocks by keeping them off public areas or private owned properties (farms). Let the owners take them to their ranches, provided with water and adequate security by the rangers, adequate pasture milk collection and even security against rustlers to enable them live a normal life. This has been successfully done in India, Ethiopia and even Brazil.

Among other things it is high time the political elite stop the practice of blaming the victims of injustice in the land. Since the federal government has a legal duty to protect the life and property of every citizen it has failed to put an end to the perennial violent conflicts between farmers and cattle herdsmen which have needlessly claimed many lives and destruction of properties worth several billions of Naira in many states of the federation.

The government need to track the sponsors and expose them meanwhile also work towards disarming this killer herdsmen. They must also take the issue of using suivellience planes seriously

Over the years with the emergence of social media we have had a tremendous change in the system which government operates and also information can easily be accessible from the use of our mobile devices other than the days of old where we can only access information from print media, television/satellite channels and radio stations with the government having little or no idea of how the people (youths & old persons) feel about their policies & system of government.

Government officials, agencies now have social media accounts which the general public can express their concerns by sharing their views, comments & suggestion using the various social media platforms like facebook, twitter, instagram and others.
Who are the youths? Just as the Nigerian youth policy (2009) defines youth as persons between 18-35 years. The youth charter declares that youth or young people shall refer to every person between the ages of 15 and 35 years while the United Nations defines youth as persons between the age of 15 and 24.

As youths we need to be very careful in our dealings with government affairs and issues concerned with the government. Remember the federal government is composed of three distinct branches; legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the constitution of Nigeria in the National Assembly, the President, and the federal courts, including the Supreme Court, respectively. So therefore if there are laws, activities, policies by these public servants which is not helping the people but rather making life unbearable, creating unemployment or whatever it may be that is not in any way beneficial to the people that needs to be changed, adjusted or completely removed the youths can play a major role by airing the views without fear using the various available social media platforms which will in turn bring about positive outcome to be benefited by us all been members of the community, state and country.

A good example of the impact of social media can be sighted in the 2017 twitter harsh tag “#EndSARS” which brought about public outcry and experiences people have had with the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F SARS) and the call for it to be abolished. Many expressed the views and experiences on how they have been molested, beaten and robbed by the agency which is meant to protect them. Many said they were been searched on daily bases and dragged to ATMs to withdraw money as the they were tagged fraudsters known as yahoo yahoo meanwhile they are youths simply working as entrepreneurs, some graphic artiste, web designers and others involved in e-commerce and other businesses. The harsh tag brought about a protest which led to re-organization of the Anti-Robbery Squard (FSARS)

The bring back our girls harsh tag in 2014 also brought about the attention of the international communities all urging the government of Nigeria to bring back the girls who were kidnapped by the book haram terrorist group. The Nigerian government was forced to put more effort in tackling and fighting the terrorist group. Now that’s also the power of the social media.

Like we all know over 90% of our youths today use the social media, many use it for the wrong reasons, like fraud, promoting nudity and others but if the youths can deviate from such dubious and immoral activities and focus of goal driven activities that can bring about improvements in our daily lives and raising topics that will bring about making good government policies, decisions tackling unemployment, low power supply and other issues. Should there be a light Nigeria harsh tag or employ Nigeria hash tags today then I believe we would have a good and better country, but then we need to be serious about it for the government to work towards it.

The government can govern the people if they are well informed of the problems of the people so therefore we must lay our complains, comments and observations using the social media freely.

The 2019 elections is months away from today so I urge the youths to be careful in their dealings so they don’t make a wrong choice by supporting the wrong candidate. We should compare the past, previous and present government and be sure we are supporting the right candidate. We should run a background check on whoever we are supporting and not just only show support on social media but also come out and vote when the day comes.

Remember your views on social media can help change people’s opinion about others so the youths must try as much possible not to make mistakes. Other issues can be discussed on social media like health and others but then as we talking about youths and government we should vote for the right candidate.
