raumdeuter: Giroud doesn't have the lungs to chase players around when you're playing a low block but when you are dominating and pumping balls into the box he is very useful and can bully defenders
Maybe he should have dropped Dembele or something the energy needed is just not there
Maybe the flu affected them Then that's tactical malpractice on Deschamps part. Going by how they have played vs how Argentina have played what did they see that made them believe they would dominate this game Deschamps is a risk averse manager. And you can't argue with the results however when it fails it can fail spectacularly. |

But I guess fatigue played a huge part in Croatia’s loss cos their prior 3 knockout matches either lasted 120 minutes or went to penalties Pogba and Kante are 5x better than these jokers they have in midfield Same France beat Argentina at that last world cup nau |

Even at that, I just think this poor performance is more of an attitude/mentality thing...
France dey play like say make match finish make them dey go house for more important things...
No fire, no passion...nothing!!! Griezmann is not that guy. To be frank France's midfield has been mediocre. They got away with it against England and Morocco but Dembele's foolishness erased their margin for error today But the way they've played today is criminal |

raumdeuter: While Giroud was the wrong striker to start given the defensive nature of the game Deschamps played but now that they are clasing the ball Argentina will sit deeper and more balls and crosses will come into the box
So while Giroud was a tactical defect at the start, taking him out at this point doesn't seem right to me Giroud is completely useless in this match to be frank. He is not going to get enough chances to be of any use And actually Giroud would have been of more use late in the game if France were still chasing it. They need forwards that will get stuck in in that midfield that can draw fouls put less pressure on their two man midfield They're not playing this match like it's a World Cup Final and I can't believe my eyes. Maybe because most of them on the pitch won the last one |

afrodoc2: Coman is sick now. If Giroud or Thuram fall also sick before the final then it’s slim pickings. Tension or not it would be advisable to have Benzema on standby in Doha.
If 2 adult men with bia bia can’t get along for a couple of days to achieve their ultimate goal then they are both unserious. You know these French folks can have a flair for the dramatic sometimes But reason this thing well oh. Why and what are the odds that all the French players are suddenly falling sick. This is not even like France 98 where it was just one guy. It's a gang of people falling ill like anthrax was unleashed in their camp. They're not even disclosing the exact nature of the illnesses. I've never seen anything like it |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by A40(m): 7:04am On Dec 17, 2022 |
afrodoc2: It might have to be Upamecano and Saliba. Saliba is a like for like replacement for Varane but the problem is that he has been cold for a month.
There are replacements in defence. The place where we can’t afford illness is in attack. Mbappe, Griezmann, Dembele should be wrapped in cotton wool and they should activate Benzema if he is partially fit. He should be in Doha at least just in case things get worse. Seems there is a bit of tension between Benzema and Deschamps. Not sure bringing him would be a good idea. Mere looking at their body language when his name is brought up it's not screaming we're missing him and sad he's not able to play so far. I think Giroud, Thuram and Muani are enough in the attack and hopefully Coman is also fine. Getting Benzema back doesn't guarantee anything The worry is in defense. A Saliba or Upamecano against tricky players like Messi and Alvarez is recipe for disaster. I'm not under any illusions that these refs will not blow PK at the slightest fvck up by France. They've given away 3 already and Argentina has won 4. So that's something to look out for |

PDPGuy: Now, FIFA are reconsidering the format for the 2026 World Cup There was no way that the exciting last round of group games at this year's World Cup would go unnoticed by the higher ups.
I'm predicting either a format of 16 groups of three teams (with group winners advancing to the round of 16), or 12 groups of four teams, with group winners and runners-up, as well as the best 8 third-placed teams across the groups advancing to the round of 32. I'm sure FIFA and the confederations and other stakeholders (including FIFpro) wouldn't mind accommodating a 5-5.5 week WC Not even a fan of this 48 team format. They are watering down the quality of the competition IMO. Obviously someone can argue that we would have said the same when it was 24 teams but there's always a happy medium to be had if you ask me. You always need the right balance of exclusivity if you want the World Cup to still hold that prestige. When you turn it to free for all that's when the quality and it's selling point starts to decline. The World Cup shouldn't be an all comers affair that render qualifiers almost meaningless |
