Khanben: What is the nba without it top 10 players. Are you going to be watching a finals where Middleton is the best player on the court? It was Stern that made the nba about the players, before him it was Lakers vs Celtics, he came in and changed it to Magic vs Bird. Furthermore employee and employer dynamic is based on what the employee does for the team, most CEOs and MDs are employees, but they still get ownership stakes as part of the payments. GSW was a nobody before Steph, whatever valuation GSW is worth today, at the very least 20% is due to what Steph did on the court.
PS: Why does all this stuff not happen in European football, cr7 wanted to leave Madrid while under contract and Madrid reduced his buyout clause and helped facilitate the move, same thing when he wanted to leave Juve, they let him go on a free. But a nba player who can be traded whenever ownership wants, decides he wants a trade then all of a sudden he has committed treason. Maybe we should be asking why they expect some rights for themselves but not the same for players. And so Giannis, KD, Steph,Lebron play with who? Li Jianlian and Xi Jinping? Abi who go be their teammates Stern and the league pushed specific players but it wasn't a player league. The players were used to sell the league without any real power. Michael Jordan was the ambassador of the game from pretty much 88 to 98. He didn't start making significant league money till the final 2-3 years of his contract. Are you talking about the same David Stern that blocked the CP3 to Lakers trade? Go and look up your NBA history. Commissioner Stern was a no nonsense guy Steph was even more of a nobody. The team surrounded him with talent. Their location also helped. Steph has not done more than what Tim Duncan did for the San Antonio Spurs. Nobody has crowned him shareholder Ronaldo was moved at the behest of Madrid. Same way the Nets are not obliged to honor KDs request if they're not satisfied with the compensation. Let me reiterate Kevin Durant is a staff of the Nets. The Nets pay him not the other way round. You cannot be dragging equal privileges with the man that cuts your cheque. It's not done anywhere. And when you do agidi laslas the boss will eventually put you in your place. Say what you want about Lebron but at least he's never not seen out his contracts |

Khanben: Nobody says they will take all, but they can definitely sustain taking the very best. Also, a $150bil investment with a a yearly return of like 5% for say the 1st 3-5yrs and rising to say 10% after that is something that the nba players as a product can generate if they start their own league, and that is easily sellable in today's financial market. Any fund manager worth their name will scramble to get some of that action.
PS: The next NBA CBA discussion will be starting by latest next year, we will all see that the players will not lose any ground when it's all said and done, because they have a very strong hand and they know how to play it. Hahahaha. This man is a utopian. See as e dey call $150bn like say na pure water. Where them wan see am? Who will drop $150bn. Not even Saudi Government and China combined No take laugh kill me abeg. Khanben: In the year of the lockout. Dirk was under contract for 4yr/80mil. The Chinese league offered him 1.5mil per month, with the knowledge that he would leave whenever the lockout ended. With the fact that basketball players from the states don't pay taxes in China, I say that is pretty equivalent, we've not even started to talk about the endorsement opportunities and how brands like Nike, Adidas pand puma would love it for the big name guys to play there even if it is for just a season.
PS: you say the owners don't need the money. I say all the players association needs to do is go to either Blackrock or one of the emirates fund and guarantee that if they get the funding for a league, every single player in the nba retires from the nba and joins said new league, if they guarantee coaches a union, coaches will absolutely follow them. In case you think it is far fetched, the PGA just saw how easy it is for players to get funding for a competing tour. Aston Martin one of the worst teams in f1, just secured over $600mil in funding for a paltry 17% stake from the same people. So please keep telling yourself the players don't have an option, if they decide to go nuclear the owners will lose, because their investment will become worthless. That is why it is in everybody's interest to work together and fix the issues that exists without one group acting as if it's an aristocracy. Lmaooo. You're a really funny guy. You think Guangdong Tigers will pay Khris Middleton 20mil per season or KCP 10mil for one season of ball? We're talking about sustainability you're bringing up outliers of 1 or 2 players. China cannot pay NBA money. Better don't kid yourself. They tried it with football. Barely 2 seasons it crashed. You're jonzing if you think the Chinese can bankroll 30 NBA teams and pay anything close to NBA type salary. There's a reason there's no equivalent of the NBA, NFL or MLB anywhere in the world. The US far and away still have the biggest economy. Laughable also that you compare the PGA an individual sport to the NBA a team sport. The dynamics are a 1000% different. Laughable that you also compare a 1 time buy-in stake to recurring salaries Anyway it's not your fault na Adam Silver wey dey form Player's commissioner. In the good old days of David Stern all this nonsense no dey fly Nothing like aristocracy. It's a boss and employee dynamic. There's no field or sphere of life where employer and employee will always have it equal. And neither should it be that way. The only thing you should push for is disparity to not be too wide. |

Not once have you heard me fret about Lewandowski's absence. From our losses to Madrid, to the first leg against Villarreal last season. We got Mazraoui for free and bear in mind we might still offload a Pavard since we also have Stanisic, Nianzou (who we got for free) and Upamecano Signing Upamecano ahead of Konate was our only major fvck up but nobody knew Konate would be as good and Upamecano as bad. It's like when Liverpool lost Suarez and some fans were doing panpangolo metrics about sturridge, Sterling, Balo and Co.. These things don't work in reality Lewandowski was a notorious big game ghost almost all his time in Bayern. Even the year we won Champions League. Gnabry and Coman were the ones that decided the games with their contributions in the semis and Finals. We're looking forward to others stepping up in absence of Lewandowski. Players do step up in the absence of a star man. Did you know Benzema would reach Balon D'or levels when Ronaldo left? 3 of the 4 guys in our forward line have tasted victory in the CL Finals. We've done fairly decent business. Mazraoui, Gravenberch, Mane and De Ligt
Likely we might offload Pavard to help our net even more. It all boils down to are we getting a Lewandowski replacement or we replace from within. Personally I'd want to challenge the likes of Gnabry, Mane, Coman and Sane. I don't see why 2 players from this 4 cannot drop 20-25 goals in all comps |

Skrrrrrrr: GP2 is a defensive Savant. Better than Gra Gra Pat bev and Marcus Smart in my books. He was more instrumental to the warriors winning this Title than even Jordan Poole. The warriors went on huge runs with him on the court mainly because he shuts everyone down. With him on the court, Bostons offence came to a halt, forcing turnovers and giving the warriors points in transition. When the game got tight, Kerr left Poole on the bench and brought him in. I was real pissed when he signed with the blazers. The Warriors better hope Kuminga develops properly because they gave away really their best perimeter defender. He did all the little dirty jobs on the court and covered up for guys like Steph and Poole. He's a significant miss |

Khanben: When the skillset you have makes you 1 of 5 or so in the whole world, then you have as much leverage as you are willing to push for and that is a fact. The scarcer the skillset the more power the owner of said skillset becomes.
PS: As for the owners shutting the league down, ask them what happened the last time they tried it, during the last, lock out. In case you didn’t follow the situation, most of the big Euroleague and Chinese teams offered the big name players very good contracts to come over and play for them. that situation in essence was the beginning of the power shift in the NBA, because the big named players who drive the ratings realized that money wise they could get comparable earnings at least for a few months in Europe. Lol. Nothing like leverage when you're under a 4 year deal. If you want leverage you sign a 2 year or 1 year deal. Also the guys that wield such power are less than 2% of the league. Bear in mind that even the Nets now are not obliged to respond to KD's request. They could tell him see you at training camp. And na there conversation go end Lmaoo. You think Euroleague and China can afford to give 9 figure contracts?? Better wake up. Everything is swimmingly because there's enough money in the pot to go round but if there's a lockout the players would be much much harder hit than the owners. I would have preferred they traded Moody, a second round pick so as to retain GP2 for another season. The maths with the capspace could be a problem but anything for GP2 who is a legit perimeter defender compared to a Moody who hasn't impressed or a Wiseman that might just be a draft burst with his injuries. GP2 was a huge loss. His increased minutes was one of the little overlooked things that turned the series in the Warriors favor. Especially his performance in Game 5 He does so many things that don't show up in the stats sheet. That was the one guy the Warriors had to find a way to keep |
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 1:47pm On Jul 16, 2022 |
Khanben: Baba there is no gall involved. The Raptors swore to high heaven's that they would not trade DeRozan to his face. When they did, they did not even give him the courtesy of a heads-up when they found out about the opportunity to make a deal with the Spurs, Masai only called him after the trade was done. So if the teams can trade away a player with 2-3 years left on their contract, a player should also have the same right. Basketball at this level is a profession like any other. D Same thing happened with Blake 1 month after the Clippers convinced him to sign long term they turned around and traded him with no warning. If teams wants to include a provision in the next CBA that no player can be traded until after a certain duration of his contract has been played out, then it must be a 2 way thing. Lool. In what world and what profession have you seen employees and employers of labor have the same cache and have or play by the same rules. Let's get real. A player cannot have the same rights as the owner. That is not a sustainable system to run. In every walk of life there's a chain of command bro. DeRozan gets paid regardless so whether they inform him or not is immaterial. It's like the civil service when you sign up to a contract you can get traded. Unless you work a no trade clause somehow in your contract like it's done in other sports Basketballers only enjoy the luxury of the fact that they're fewer guys on the court so 1 player can hold a franchise by the balls. The next CBA would be very interesting. Understand that owners can shut the league down. They don't rely on day to day money like the players do. They have other sources of income |
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 4:00am On Jul 16, 2022 |
Roland17: Baba, truth is, when it comes to contracts with superstars and some star players the precedence has already been established and only another round of CBA can change the current situation.
KD is the biggest superstar to request a trade and is rightfully going to command the attention and demands. The Nets are right to seek a haul because of the caliber of player involved in the trade, it comes with the territory.
The owners have to be strong and united during the next CBA to put a stop to this. There has to be a serious consequence on players who seek trades during an active contract. I understand it's a cutthroat business but even in cutthroat businesses there has to be some form of a code. It's absolute madness that a guy who signed a 4 year deal has the gall to ask for a trade when the deal has barely kicked in. The truth is any team that wants to get KD barring the Warriors will have to completely gut it's roster and mortgage it's future. So where does that leave KD? If these teams have any honor or code they should band together and not provide any offer worth considering. That is the only way this so-called power can be taken Superstars seemingly have power because of GMs also willing to do what it takes to win which is good but also bad. There has to be some rules of engagement of sorts |

Lewandowski used up all his good will with the way he handled his departure. I can't be bothered
What this means now is more goalscoring duties for Mane, Gnabry, Coman and Sane. This will be the most mobile forward line in Europe. What cannot be predicted however is the end product. I'm curious to see who steps up to have a career best season in the absence of Lewa
What this also means now is that De Ligt is likely coming. And I'm also hearing loud rumors about Ororo. I am surprisingly open to 1 year of Ororo provided he takes a massive paycut. The exposure he would bring the club for that 1 season will be huge plus he can still produce, he's proven that |

Roland17: KD to the Suns is not entirely out of the picture, however, it will take multiple teams, say 3-4 teams to complete the trade. Thing is, KD is going to command a lot and while everyone wants him, only very few teams can afford what the Nets are demanding. The Suns want him because this year might be their last shot with CP3 and they have shown us that Booker is not that guy who can carry a team to a championship.
Running it back with the Nets is not possible if Kyrie is there. But the Nets have made it clear that they want to resolve the KD situation first before Kyrie’s and Kyrie has said he will be fine with staying in Brooklyn. I remember saying on this thread that KD and and Kyrie became distant after the playoffs and have not been close as usual since then. I think everyone involved has come to the conclusion that Kyrie is the common denominator. KD has to take some responsibility for how he allowed Kyrie disrupt their entire season and stayed quiet about it. I don’t expect him to speak about it. I think he believed he could reel the team despite the dysfunction going on.
The management also did a horrible job when the failed to pull the brakes on everyone when the nonsense was going on. Harden left because of Kyrie. He could not deal with it. KD wants stability, I think that is the biggest for him. Also, I don’t think he rates Nash anyways and that is another issue that has not been talked about. The Suns have most of his needs to succeed.
I can see him start the season with the Nets but ultimately leave at some point but for the sake of clarity, it’s best it is resolved before the start of the new season. To your question, yes, Kobe. I strongly suspect that there is a silent deal between Joe Tsai and the other owners of the league to ensure that there would never be enough pieces for Brooklyn to agree to this trade. If KD is allowed to pull this off then a dangerous precedent has been set. Contracts would be as useful as toilet paper |
