To win, he needs to capture swing states in the Midwest and East coast. Problem is Michigan and Pennsylvania have performing Democrat governors while Milwaukee and Madison, the 2 most populous cities in Wisconsin have strong Democrat following.

If he sticks to issues, he will keep his base and win new voters from the other side. Otherwise, he would fall into the trap they will intentionally set for him.
