The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has ordered all heads of agencies, departments, parastatals, and ambassadors with political ambitions to resign.

In a circular obtained by The PUNCH on Thursday morning, our correspondent observed that the office of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, among other agencies was copied.

The circular was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

The circular with reference number SGF/OP/ I/S.3/XII/ 173 was titled, ‘Ministers, heads of government agencies, ambassadors and other appointees with political ambitions to resign’.

Karine Jean-Pierre will become the new White House press secretary when Jen Psaki departs her role next week, President Joe Biden announced in a statement Thursday, becoming the first Black and out LGBTQ person to hold the position.

Jean-Pierre currently serves as the White House's principal deputy press secretary.
"Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris Administration on behalf of the American people," Biden said in a statement, adding that "Jen Psaki has set the standard for returning decency, respect and decorum to the White House Briefing Room."
Jean-Pierre will formally begin following Psaki's last day, which will be May 13. CNN reported in April that Psaki was planning on leaving her role for one at MSNBC.
Last May, Jean-Pierre became the second Black woman in history to hold the daily press briefing. She has served on the White House's senior communications team since Biden took office and before that was an adviser to his campaign and chief of staff to now-Vice President Kamala Harris.
Jean-Pierre's family includes her partner, CNN national correspondent Suzanne Malveaux, and their daughter.

Former Lagos State Governor and presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday in Abuja described the increasing number of aspirants vying for the party’s presidential ticket as a plus for Nigeria’s democracy.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhamamd Abdulkadir has said that he has all that it takes to challenge any aspirant running for the 2023 presidential elections in Nigeria except former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The governor last month said he will inform Nigerians about his decision to either contest the 2023 Presidential election or otherwise in February. He insisted that he ought to consult “owners of Nigeria who you to have met them at home” before he disclose his resolve to vie for the Presidency or not.

Governor Bala stated this shortly after having a closed-door meeting with former President Jonathan in Abuja.

He said he was not in any way troubled by the prospects of any other candidate in the race to the Aso Villa in 2023.

He said if the party wanted to do justice to all its sons and daughters, a candidate from Northern Nigeria should be given the chance to face whoever All Progressives Congress, APC field as its flag bearer.

The governor is making this assertion bearing in mind that his “political father” Goodluck Jonathan is being speculated to also be nursing the idea of seeking reelection.

He said that the governors of the southern states of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have no iota of excuse for PDP to field a presidential candidate from the south.

He said there was no doubt in his conversation with former president Goodluck that he was being consulted on the matter.

Governor Bala said Jonathan advised him not to withdraw from the race because he might be running for reelection too.

However, he said, “I told him that if he is going to run for the Presidency again, I will not challenge him, and, as a benevolent son, I will not hesitate to relinquish my position on the matter.

“I told him that if he ran, I would not run, even in any party, not just the APC or the PDP. The country will not allow me to run as long as he does.”

Bala assured that although no one can stop him from contesting for the Presidency, there are people who are politically influential like former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

“If Nigerians say they want Atiku, I will support them, but I will challenge anybody in the race for the Presidency up to the last day.

“I think we have taken the time and learnt the lesson that is enough for us to be given the chance to contribute our quota to nation-building and help address challenges of insecurity, poverty and other issues that plague Nigeria,” Bala said.

He said he will continue with his consultations to former presidents, governors, religious and political leaders on his ambition to run for the Presidency in 2023.

The governor is, however, doing all these with the thought of plan B should he not be able to secure PDP presidential ticket.

He said he will copy Sokoto State Governor’s 2019 model to reserve his PDP governorship ticket.

Wike, who was in the Edo State capital as part of consultation for presidential aspiration, saw neither Obaseki, nor his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

He also avoided the Edo secretariat of the party in Benin. The state Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, is Obaseki’s loyalist.

(CNN)The FBI on Thursday blamed hackers associated with the North Korean government for stealing more than $600 million in cryptocurrency last month from a video gaming company -- the latest in a string of audacious cyber heists tied to Pyongyang.


"Through our investigation we were able to confirm Lazarus Group and APT38, cyber actors associated with the DPRK, are responsible for the theft of $620 million in Ethereum reported on March 29th," the FBI said in a statement. "DPRK" is an abbreviation for North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and Ethereum is a technology platform associated with a type of cryptocurrency.
The FBI was referring to the recent hack of a computer network used by Axie Infinity, a video game that allows players to earn cryptocurrency. Sky Mavis, the company that created Axie Infinity, announced on March 29 that unidentified hackers had stolen the equivalent of roughly $600 million -- valued at the time of the hack's discovery -- on March 23 from a "bridge," or network that allows users to send cryptocurrency from one blockchain to another.
The US Treasury Department on Thursday sanctioned Lazarus Group, a wide swath of hackers believed to work on behalf of the North Korean government. Treasury sanctioned the specific "wallet," or cryptocurrency address, that was used to cash out on the Axie Infinity hack.
Cyberattacks have been an important source of revenue for the North Korean regime for years as its leader, Kim Jong Un, has continued to pursue nuclear weapons, according to a United Nations panel and outside cybersecurity experts
